Vegis walked down several flights of stairs and saw a large trap door. Vegis opened it and entered the 35th floor’s feeding closet. Vegis felt the cool air touching his skin and saw rows and rows of cabinets and drawers, each filled with containers of random foods and supplements for creatures that live here. Vegis walked down and looked at the schedule that was posted right next to the door. It seems like today, he will need to feed the creatures in the west wing.
Each wing is roughly 2 km by 1 km that goes from the center elevator to near the wall. They also stand at a height of 4 floors or roughly 80 meters. West wing contains the more docile large creatures. This allows them to have more lax security and is more like a large zoo. The west wing goes from floor 36 to 39, with floor 39 mainly being dirt and halls so they can observe subterranean creatures, floor 37-38 having trees and pins that section off the animals so they can’t attack each other, and 36th floor being empty for the flying creatures. The east wing did the same but from floor 31-34 and was for more aggressive creatures. Due to them being more aggressive, the security is more stronger and thus the creatures in there have less freedom and nature.
Vegis got carts and filled them up with food. He then gave 1 cart to each clone and had them feed the animals. He watched them walk to each pin and would have to intervene when the clone tried to throw food that was incompatible with the creature, like throwing a bundle of pellets and leaves to a large reptilian-like creature or throwing a slab of meat to an infant mammalian creature. It took the rest of his shift for Vegis to feed all the nocturnal creatures in the west wing. He put everything up and headed to the surface for a break and breakfast.
Vegis exited the central elevator with a deep orange sky above him and a couple of scientists who were leaving the labs behind him. Vegis walked to the cafeteria building and decided to get some rice, stir fried veggies, and cooked meats. As he was half way done with his meal, Jess sat down across him and had a grumpy expression on her face. Vegis looked at her confused and asked, “Are you okay?”
She shook her head and she started eating her plate of cured meats and crackers. After a bit of time, text appeared and explained what caused her to have a bad mood. “So I got some packages sent to me from family that got absolutely obliterated from transit from my home planet and here. Inside were some expensive text books, some trinkets, and most importantly, a pendant that I’ve been waiting to arrive for the last 3 years.”
Vegis sucked some air through his teeth and said, “Man, that really must sucks. I had all my shit packed up when I moved over here and hadn’t gotten a package from them in a couple of years. I do got a question though, what caused the pendant take so long to get here?”

She stopped for a second and then replied with, “It is something personal to my family. Just think of it as a tradition thing.” Vegis nodded at this and finished eating. He got up and said, “See ya later,” before depositing the dishes to the tray holder and left the cafeteria heading to the lab. He went to the 40th floor and went to one of the janitorial closet in a secluded spot far from any path others usually take.
He opened the door and went inside the room that had 2 small piles of blankets and pillows. There was also a screen and connection to the surface and the LSN. This was a small lounge-like area that Vegis’s predecessors made to relax on the long shift. It wasn’t a true lounge so it didn’t get stocked with food but it got more privacy and less noises.
Vegis laid down on the pile on the left and made the pile into a bed-like thing and slept. Hours later, he woke up and saw he had 3 more hours until his shift so he just sat down and watched things on the screen. 2 hours passed and Vegis finally got up, stretched and walked out to head to the 34th floor which had a large washing area for cleaning large items. He took out the shampoo that was hidden in the far corner of the room and took a quick shower and cleaned his clothes. He went back to the room and saw that the day shift person was walking into the room. Vegis waved at them and headed to the 30th floor for his clones.
Vegis went to the main janitorial closet on the 30th floor and had the clones bring him the list. Vegis decided that he would first feed the east wing first before doing the other tasks which took way less time. Vegis got the clones to follow him to the food closet on the 35th floor and went up to the east wing.
The east wing had less animals since they were both more aggressive and needed a large area to roam. It took 3 hours for Vegis and the clones to feed them all, but as they were going to the door out of the east wing, the glass of one of the pins started to creak so Vegis and the clones had to run to the door and close it.
After locking the door down, Vegis slammed his hand into a button near the door and called an emergency team to come down and deal with the savage beast. He held the door shut as he felt the creature slamming into it, trying to escape. After a minute of waiting, a team left the elevator and ordered Vegis to leave the area to which Vegis complied. After an hour, the lights stopped blinking on the floor and Vegis headed to floor 30 to do the easier task.
Vegis got to the closet and saw a pile of packages on the right wall. He asked the clones to move them to their proper places on the different floors and rooms. After they left and returned, Vegis went to each of the rooms and opened the boxed, assembled the item inside them, and tested to see if they worked properly. When he was done doing this, he had one more task to do which was a pain.
He went to the floor manager’s office on this floor and grabbed the stack of paper that was left near the door, and had to tape this on every door on floors 30-40.
