  The third try, as it turns out, is not a victory. Unfortunately.

  Neither is the fourth try.

  I end up dying to him activating some surprise energy blast with his rapier for the third try, and for the fourth I die when he headbutts me while practically sacrificing himself after ditching his rapier. Clearly proving that even if he dies after me, I still lose the trial.

  Which is annoying.

  The fifth attempt ends up going a lot better though as I now find myself floating in front of a drastically injured Quantum Scribe. One who is missing both of his arms and therefore is unable to write with his pen.

  I feel the slightest hint of a smile spreading across my face at the sight of him openly frowning at me now. Especially when I flip his own pen in my hands.

  It took a while, but I found his greatest weakness during the last attempt. Even if I ended up dying in the end due to his headbutt.

  His greatest weakness is his pen rapier thing.

  If he loses it, he can’t write the script of reality anymore. So the battle becomes a lot more fair.

  And by fair, I mean one-sided on my end.

  Seeing as that’s the man’s greatest weapon.

  And just like with the fourth attempt, the man begins focusing all of his quantum energy on his head. Building up a powerful charge in the process.

  But unlike last time, when he blasts forward at a speed I can’t even see, I’m prepared for it. So I teleport away the moment I see him begin charging.

  Leading to him blasting straight past me before literally blowing himself up.

  Ending the trial without a word.

  Which is unlike the last trial where the Quantum Architect congratulated me saying I passed. But this time the Quantum Scribe is kind of dead already and can’t really congratulate anyone.

  So with that ending, I find myself appearing back in the mausoleum as System text appears in front of my eyes again. Just like the last time I cleared a trial.

  For passing the second of the tests, your core will expand. Furthermore, you have gained Quantum Resistance to the quantum energy of the Quantum Scribe.

  Most of the message except for the first part is just a copy of the previous message. So there isn’t much new to it.

  I’m guessing my True Form will have more power now. And I also have resistance to the Quantum Scribe’s variant of quantum energy now.

  Well, time to move on to the next target.

  Hey, Zal, which one would you recommend next?

  “Why do I feel like you only remember me when you have a question to ask?” Zal mutters to himself. But he still answers as always, “The next best target for you is the Quantum Cleaner. Since his powers are focused around combatting corruption and not regular beings or Quantum Beings.”

  Understood.

  The Quantum Cleaner… I wonder what he’s like?

  From what I remember, no one I have ever spoken to about him or his Successors have had any good words about him. At all. Not a one.

  “I’ve mentioned this to you before, but the Cleaner is unhinged,” Zal says matter-of-factly. “He hates his role and will do anything he can to make his role disappear. To make the corruption his role is solely meant to remove disappear, removing the need for his role in the process. And as he does that, he enjoys taking his irritation out on others.”

  Oh. Sounds like a pain in the ass.

  “Exactly how I describe him,” Zal agrees. “On top of that, he always just narrowly avoids being caught. Making it impossible to use the hierarchy to give him an order.”

  Definitely a pain in the ass.

  That said, I didn’t realize a Quantum Being might hate their role.

  I purse my lips at that thought before shrugging and going ahead and finding the mausoleum for the Quantum Cleaner. Then I enter it without any hesitation. Only to find myself appearing in some sort of dark room filled with clutter all around it.

  And at the center of the room playing a bunch of video games at once is the Quantum Cleaner. With a wide grin on his face.

  I walk around him to find that he seems to be trolling on whatever videogame he’s playing.

  Huh.

  This was not what I was expecting.

  “Die you damned bastard!” the Cleaner practically shouts at the game as he kills his own teammate. Only to then turn around and win the game on his own. “Fuck yeah!!”

  Yeah. Not what I was expecting at all.

  Out of nowhere, a red alert notification begins ringing and flashing in the room, making the exhilarated expression on the Cleaner’s face turn disgusted in an instant.

  “Fuck this bullshit,” he mutters before standing up and creating a rift in front of him. Only to appear on some random planet where he waves his hand, sending a bright pulse of glitching purple energy through the planet covered in corrupted creatures.

  Wiping them all out the moment they come into contact with the pulse.

  Then, as if nothing had just happened, he returns to his little cave of a room with all the lights out and begins playing his game again. Going back to trolling teammates and then winning each game on his own with ease.

  I stare blankly at the guy as this process repeats a few times. With each time having him interrupted, sometimes in the middle of a game which infuriates him even more when he has to leave the game, before he goes to deal with the issue as fast as possible before returning.

  And the only thing that comes to mind while watching this is that the guy is…

  Messed up.

  Very messed up.
