B5 | Chapter 12

  Alexia

After experiencing my first death against the Quantum Scribe, I learn quite a few things. The first being not to underestimate him just because he’s one of the weakest Quantum Beings with roles. Because he’s still a Quantum Being despite that.

A species dominating the top of existence in terms of power.

  Alongside the devourers that is.

The second thing I learn from my loss is that he doesn’t play fair. He doesn’t do straight direct attacks. And he doesn’t do clashes of power.

He’s sneaky, rewrites the way the battle is going, summons armies of creatures to do his dirty work for him, and just appears whenever you least expect it to quite literally stab you in the back. And in the front.

Oh. And his pen turns into a rapier.

  Who would’ve thought?

Never expected the Quantum Scribe to use a rapier as a weapon.

I glance down as I remember it stabbing straight through my chest and my heart.

Then I look back down at the Quantum Scribe in front of me seated behind his desk writing things down. Which I still think looks incredibly boring.

But he doesn’t seem to think so as he diligently does his work.

I narrow my eyes at the man before swinging my scythe as I turn around to begin working on practicing my strongest attacks again. Making sure I’m not rusty at all due to not using my True Form very often since my last trial.

And just like that, time begins to pass until the first trial is over again. Following which I enter the second trial and try to keep my eye on the man as much as possible while he kills off the corrupted creatures with his own army before finally taking on the Corruptor itself again.

I watch from right next to him, following his every move to make sure I don’t miss anything. And since it seems he isn’t including me in his script, I actually manage to follow him even as he’s rewriting reality to alter it.

  Which is interesting.

It means that only things he directly specifies in his script are included. So if he misses it and doesn’t know about it, he won’t be able to write it, so he won’t be able to do anything about it.

Looks like one of the best ways to deal with his incredibly annoying power to alter reality is to surprise him.

I just hope he doesn’t retain memories of our past battles. Because of he does then it’ll be incredibly difficult to surprise him.

But there should be an easy way to test that.

All I have to do is to is show him my quantum reversal again. Since he was visibly surprised by it the first time he saw it.

If he shows visible surprise again this next time, then it’ll be confirmed whether he remembers things between battles or not.

And if he does remember things, then that’ll be even more annoying. Because I’ll have to be more careful about what I show up.

The bright side is that I know for sure he doesn’t remember things between different trials as the Quantum Architect didn’t when I did his trials.

So I can continue training during the first trial.

Anyway, after the second trial finishes again, the third trial begins for the second time. And when it does, I immediately teleport up to the Quantum Scribe while swinging my scythe. Only for the man to vanish the second before my blade is about to hit him.

Then I feel the slightest sting in my back, making me instantly teleport away.

Which seems to surprise him when I look at him after that.

I glance at the wound on my side to see that the pen barely stabbed me.

Good. This time I managed to react faster than the last time.

I focus on the Quantum Scribe again, only to find him gone as another flash of stinging pain radiates from my other side. With me teleporting away right after while frowning at his sudden attack when I wasn’t expecting it.

  Seriously?

  No patience, this Quantum Being…

Anyway, I try to attack him several more times even as he summons his army. Getting hit myself a few times in response.

Then I perform my test. Reverting the damage right in front of his eyes.

And fortunately for me, he looks just as surprised this time around as he was last time.

  So that’s good.

After that, we continue our battle that’s practically a dance at this point. Trying to avoid the other without any real movement as we both ‘teleport’. Albeit with me actually teleporting and him rewriting reality to appear elsewhere.

Meanwhile he keeps summoning more creations that I wipe out with quantum lightning.

And over the period of our battle I manage to learn more things about him, along with the best ways to deal with him.

Striking myself with quantum lightning is still a good way to deal with him. But honing my instinctive reactions is also a great way as it lets me avoid his strikes.

The most important thing that I realize though is when I die to him a second time.

I can’t let him back me into a corner as he will take advantage of any opening I give to finish me off with a single stab to the heart. One full of quantum energy that ravages my insides and makes me unable to revert the damage.

Especially when it’s continuously happening with his rapier still in my heart.

But I feel more comfortable for my third try after my second. So I quickly get back to practicing during the first trial. Following which I watch him again in the second trial.

Then I move into the third trial once again before instantly teleporting away when I feel something press into my back. Making it away from his attack with him only barely being able to draw blood.

I grin at the shock on his face.

This time will be my victory.
