As the shuttle landed in the Honors Show, and we emerged. Inside the hanger, an honor guard of voidsmen greeted us. A member of the house greeted Anibeli, and they got to talking.
They, the voidsmen and house member, scarcely looked at me. Anibeli had informed them of my presence, and due to their extreme xenophobic religion, I would have expected a more... severe reception for myself. Perhaps they just weren't as religious?
Irrelevant. The random house member had done his job, informing Anibeli that Lord Berekel, Anibeli's grandfather 'requested' our presence. I was a tad nervous, admittedly. First impressions were some of the, if not THE most important impressions.
We were given an escort and led to the meeting location. The ship was significantly bigger then the destroyer. I think it was thrice the size of the destroyer I point of fact. This ment we needed to use the cruisers inbuilt transportation systems.
It took quite a bit of time, before we were eventually led to our destination. The guards lined the wall, and we were led in.
An older man sat behind a wooden desk, his presence calm and saying that within this domain, he was in complete control. The random house member bowed to the older man, and left Anibeli and me in the room alone with him.
"Anibeli, you have returned I see. I presume that your quest went well?" He smirked with amusement in his words. It seemed he genuinely cared for her... That is good, I think.
Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.
"Yes, grandfather. I achieved what I set out do do." She said seriously.
"And what, pray, would you have been trying to achieve?" He asked.
"I wanted to hire Nezekiri, over there." She said.
He peered at her, and then turned to me. Le observed me, taking my measure. He then spoke. "A... Very odd choice of retinue... Or at least the beginnings of an odd choice in retinue. There is precedent for it... Tell me, Nezekiri, is it? Why should I trust an unknown xeno in my household?" He asked, tilting his head slightly.
I responded instantly. "Honored lord of House Berekel, you ask a question of simplicity with answers as complex as a puzzle. You've little reason to trust me, but I have earned a modicum. Already I have saved your heir once, for no gain, and now I come, beseeching the heir and lord to allow me employ. It is as simple and complex as that." I say.
"You've saved Anibeli already, you say? When wo- ah... now I understand. When she was abandoned." He said. He sat in silence, and we had no intention of breaking it.
"That does give merit. But tell me, what are you? Give me the short version, if you please." He ordered.
"I am a Necron. I am an assassin, once for hire, now again in a different role. I have heard stories of the warp, and I assure you, I cannot interact with the immaterial. Is that enough?" I ask.
"It is enough, for now. Tell me, will you be loyal to the house?" He asked.
"The deathmarks abide by contract writ. As it should be. I will abide by the contract signed, and guard your house as if it was my own."
"Wait, a contract was signed? When?" He asked.
"Ahem... Well... uh, grandfather... uh..."
What followed was quite hilarious. She yas yelled at for being an idiot (deserved), and lord Berekel asked for the document in question. When he couldn't read it, he just put it down and sighed.
He requested it to be written in high gothic, and I agreed to translate. A scribe was brought, and the contract written again. When he looked over the new contract, he nodded.
"Acceptable. Anibeli, you are beyond lucky that the document was friendly in its wording. Nezekiri, will you sign this one as well? It would be bes-"
"I understand." I interrupt.
I sign the document again, and stand back and say. "Might I now have access to pertinent information regarding the galaxies threats at large? I wish to study potential enemies I might encounter." I ask.
He nods, and calls an aid. I am led to a cogitator, and I begin working. First, I must learn to read better. Next, to find out about these 'chaos forces'.
