Chapter 23. Loopholes.

Emilio was quite afraid of Milagros' smile. He knew there was something coming for him that he was not going to like, but was not going to be able to avoid it.

Milagros turned towards him and explained what her Plan B entailed. “I want you to make diplomatic relationships with Tuor’s clan. If we can prevent the invasion, they might become a business partner. If we can't, maybe they can support us from behind the scenes, or leave an exit channel for us. You are the only one who can negotiate with him.”

“Well, I’ll be damned,” Emilio cursed, “Do I really have to be the one who negotiates?”

“It would be the best choice, it seems like he liked you, and gave you all kinds of tips to follow. We can try to get someone else to make some contact with shopkeepers, but you are already way ahead,” Milagros answered.

“I’ll see what I can do,” Emilio sighed. “He was actually interested in our technology, and he said he might want to visit us in the future. I wanted to ask you for something to bring him as a present, but now it seems it will become part of the negotiation. Can we get a cell phone or tablet with some kind of solar charger? He has no electricity for sure.”

When Milagros heard what Emilio said, she actually smiled. They had found the method to approach him. Maybe Emilio was going to do a much better job as an ambassador than what she had believed.

“So he was interested…We might use this, just leave it to me. But if he was interested, we might have to limit the information we give him too. He can see the results but not how we got there. Actually, one of the strong spots of our world is the entertainment industry, so this might work as a sell out. I will get you what you need to negotiate with him.”

Emilio could almost see the gears turning in Milagros head, and he was actually a little bit afraid. “I think that my good intentions have been tainted.”

“Yeah, of course. Your good intentions are just like your bribe, right? You know as well as me we need as much leverage as we can get,” Milagros dismissed him.

“Hey Mili, what about our training?” Amelia asked, the girl had not been interacting too much with the other two, but her eyes were shining at the woman who had obviously gained her respect.

“That should be part of plan A. What exactly do you need?” Milagros asked.

“Well, Uncle Emi for sure needs clothes and some way to dispose of blood,” Amelia pointed out, thinking about their poor backyard.

“Come on, it is nutritious for land,” Emilio complained, “Also, I don’t plan on being that bad with the daggers for long.”

“Can I get some context?” Milagros asked, quite confused about the way they had been referring to disposing of blood.

Emilio sighed as he knew he was going to have to explain the way he was training, something he really didn’t want. “You see, I chose to get a pair of daggers as a weapon. I am trying to get used to them, but I keep hurting myself when training.”

“Wait, that is a lot. How is it that you are OK? And a pair? Wasn’t it one?” Milagros asked.

“Right, most people did get one, but I could actually bend the rules a little by asking for double daggers as a weapon. I’ll get them from my room for you to see them”

Milagros was actually amazed by how Emilio was able to bend the rules to get extra information or extra stuff again and again. She realized that might have to learn from him how to do it too.

She kept staring at him, wondering how his brain worked as he left the room and came back wearing Void’s belt.

On the other hand, Emilio had realized there was no way to stop her from knowing his method of training. Instead of having a long talk, he decided to just show her.

He took one dagger out and cut his arm without even blinking.

“Emi! what are you doing?” Milagros panicked, but was not able to stop him. She didn’t expect he was going to do something like that.

“Don’t worry, he will just heal,” Amelia calmly commented, already used to her uncle’s Skill.

“Yup, watch the wound,” Emilio added as he focused his Skill in fast healing at the cost of some extra Vitality.

The wound slowly stopped bleeding and formed a crust. By the time 5 minutes had passed, he could already move normally without much pain and decided to finish healing with just the passive Regeneration.

“See? It's healed, in a little while I will be as good as new” Emilio finally talked again.

“Now I understand all of Amelia’s puns. Are you sure you are fine?” Milagros asked.

“You have no idea how many times he cutted himself these two days, he’ll be fine,” Amelia rolled her eyes as she answered.

“Hey! You are the one who used me as a practice target,” Emilio replied.

“It doesn't count, with my Energy, it didn’t do anything to you! You just kept healing like nothing!” Amelia complained.

“Amelia, did you get a gun? I heard it was kind of useless,” Milagros commented.

“It’s not useless, wait for me to raise my Energy and you will see.” Amelia had already decided her next Trial will be Energy and was decided to make her gun just as powerful as a real one. “By the way, what weapon did you choose?”

“I prefer not to say,” Milagros suddenly changed her mood and looked sideways.

“Ohh, come on Mili. You have to tell us!” Emilio pressured her, quite amused at her reaction. After seeing her like that, he was not going to let go of this matter.

“It is kind of illegal,” Milagros added.

“Do you think a gun is legal?” Amelia pointed out.

“Well you got me there,” Milagros admitted. “I actually chose the only non-energy weapon that came to my mind with which I wouldn’t hurt myself, because I am not a crazy person who just heals when I hurt myself. I asked for some knuckles.

“After seeing your daggers, I am a little sad that I didn’t ask for two.”

“It was much smarter than asking for daggers,” Amelia admitted.

“Hmm, isn’t it normal for knuckles to come in pairs? Why did it give you only one?” Emilio asked, ignoring Amelia’s comment.

“No idea, I just didn’t ask.”

“Do you have it here?” Emilio asked. Milagros didn’t answer, but she turned red and her head turned to look for the window. “So you do, right?”

“It is not to defend myself, I just loved it and didn’t want to leave it!” Milagros defended herself, making the other two laugh.

“Given that we have the weapons and that people are having superpowers it might be smart to start taking them everywhere, at least until the government says otherwise,” Emilio pointed out.

“The governments should be a mess right now,” Amelia added.

“For sure, but that is not our problem. Mili, do you want to try something?” Emilio asked with a sly smile.

“Sure, what do you want me to do?” Milagros asked.

“First take your knuckle,” Emilio ordered and waited for her to do it “Now try to communicate to the System and say that it made a mistake, that you asked for ‘Knuckles’ and the weapon is incomplete because knuckles refer to one for each hand.”

“Would that really work?” Milagros asked.

“You have to try it to know, did you ask for ‘knuckles’ or ‘knuckle’?”

But he didn’t receive an answer, he just saw the knuckle rise in the air and duplicate itself. At the same time, the new weapon that was just created started to upgrade itself to be at the same state as the other one using the World Energy in the environment to strengthen itself. After it finished upgrading, the knuckles stuck together like magnets and were received by Milagros.

“It really worked,” Milagros was amazed. “The system admitted the mistake and said that the time period for the correction is reasonable. I really can’t believe that we can actually correct the results of the system.”

“It seems we can,” Emilio nodded, trying to think of other loopholes.

At that moment, Amelia just stood up and ran to her room, only to come back a few seconds later looking disappointed.

“It said I asked for a Gun and not Guns and the gun can be considered a full weapon given my memories of the meaning of the weapon,” she said.

“It was worth trying. It is true that most people use just one gun,” Milagros said. “Now we know that when it comes to the System, we have to consider our previous input and our memory, we really need to understand the length of these corrections. Emi, if something else comes to your mind just try it, you have nothing to lose. But if you do get something more to report, do it as soon as you can. I want to know all the things that work and that don't work.”

“I’ll do as you say. I mean, I did sell all of this information for some training, didn’t I?”

“Coming back to that subject, what do you even need?” Milagros asked, starting a long conversation about what it meant to train with their new abilities.
