Chapter 22. Planning ahead.

The trio finally decided to relax and have their celebration dinner. Not only did they perform well in the Starter Trials, but both adults also got a huge promotion. They were in need of a big celebration and Milagros decided it was worthy of getting good sushi.

She thought that 200 pieces should have been enough for them, even if they were eating many times more. As a result, Emilio and Amelia ate almost one hundred pieces each leaving no leftovers at all.

As she looked at the empty table, Milagros finally understood what Emilio meant when he said he was going to be spending his whole pay raise on food.

“That was really good sushi,” Amelia praised after eating the last one.

“Yes, but I really hope we can stop our hunger growth. If we can’t, we might really starve before solving anything,” Emilio added.

“There might be some solution. I mean, If there are really aliens ready to invade us, then there should be entire planets with people that have increased Stats. There has to be a solution.

“Given that apparently you can get information, you could try to find out what to do about this, right? By the way, how did you manage to get the shopkeeper to talk?” Milagros finally decided to start addressing the elephant in the room.

“That’s actually a good idea. I will ask Tuor. He is the shopkeeper in the Monolith and they have a lot of control over what information you get for your purchases. So with a little charisma, good will, and of course a few bribes I could get the information, together with purchase recommendations,” Emilio finally started explaining.

“The tips were a really smart idea, but I don’t think you are the only one to think about it. Why did you get that much information? The one who attended me seemed like he was doing a chore, doing just the minimum.”

“I think it all comes down to my charisma,” Emilio joked. “Well, if we are talking for real, it might have to do with actually having enough coins for the tips and buying all the information details. I got 16 coins and had to use 5 for purchases and tipped him 2. Ami earned 3 stats and had only 8 coins, so most people will not be able to tip them and buy the information.”

“Well that actually makes sense, even if I wanted to I couldn’t tip the Shopkeeper and get the purchases I needed,” Milagros agreed.

“I had enough, but it didn’t even come to my mind. I thought he was a robot,” Amelia admitted.

“That was actually quite extreme,” Milagros laughed. “Why did you think he was a robot?”

“With the system, his pre-made answers and all this sci-fi things going on…” Amelia didn’t finish her answer and just sighed.

“Ami, if we go with this line of thought even if he was a robot, he might have enough intelligence to identify how we treat him and react accordingly. Please, don’t offend others for no reason,” Emilio lectured her.

“Yes uncle. I’m sorry.” Amelia apologized. When he saw her reaction, Emilio patted her in the head, receiving a pout in exchange.

“Do not apologize to me, but to Tuor. And tip him your leftover coins as an apology. I think the tips were one of the best investments I’ve ever made,” Emilio reminded her.

A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.

“Ok. Now I get it,” Milagros interceded. “Your personality might have had something to do with your ability to get the information too. I don’t think he would give it to anyone, but you might have a point with you being charismatic. Your results in the Trial might also have had something to do in sweetening him up.”

“You are right, my results might have helped too. I finished the Trial unconscious and he was there when I woke up, something that actually surprised him. Maybe that set me up as someone different,” Emilio added.

“That means that for someone to be able to get information we have to consider their results in the Trial, personality, affinity with the shopkeeper and tips. As things stand, you really are the best chance we have to understand our new reality. I think you might actually be our new unofficial ambassador,” Milagros admitted.

“Please no, you know I hate politics,” Emilio complained.

“Too bad for you, this time we really need you. Luckily, your natural personality is working for this job, so keep it up in the same way as your first time. For now, you can tell me everything you know so we can actually plan on what to do,” Milagros finally decided it was time to understand the whole context.

All of them sat down in the living room and Emilio explained everything he knew. Milagros took notes of everything important and sometimes she even asked him to stop for a while so she could write down ideas, plans or possible interpretations of the information. What she didn’t do was interrupt him. She needed the full story to plan ahead and preferred to have the full context before she started to address the issue.

When Emilio finished his tale, she asked for some time to put her ideas in order. At the same time, thanked her previous self for having chosen Mind at her first Trial. It was going to help her out to actually make some plans with this new information.

To clear her head, Milagros went for a walk as she tried to come with ideas on what to do with the new information she had.

Half an hour later, she came back and they met again in Emilio’s living room, where she exposed her plans.

“Well Emi, I really thank you for all the information. You are right in making it public, but we have to be smart in the way we do it.

“The first thing we have to do is understand what we can say to absolutely everyone without limitations. After that we have to define which information will be shared for free. I think that some understanding about the System and the real risk to Earth should be made public. But we can also profit with news.

“My idea for this is to make different packages of information to sell. We can have one set of information to be given for free, and then we can sell extra information. We can even do different sets depending what System restrictions have been purchased by the buyer

“In the paid packages we can give more information like what we find out about the Stats and we might even be able to make recommendations on what to buy in the next Trials. Is this method ok for you?”

Emilio delayed his response for a few seconds to mentally verify if this method was in accordance with what he wanted, and he saw no big issues. She had come with the whole idea in just half an hour. That reminded him why he respected the woman so much, it was not that she was her boss for years, but that she was really capable.

“I can’t believe you actually were able to find a commercial product. You never stop surprising me,” Emilio praised her, “I agree to this, but I would like the public information to recommend people to take the Trial and do their best to understand their new Skills.”

“Of course, we do not want to lose our Earth to aliens and have to do our best,” Milagros agreed. “That brings me to the next subject. We have to do all of we can to prevent the invasion, but we don’t know the trials ahead of us and we have to plan accordingly.

“Our plan A is to gather talents, train them as much as we can and get as much information as we can.”

“If that is the plan A, that means you have a plan B in mind, right?” Amelia asked. She was really surprised at how fast the woman was coming with things to do, when all of what her family had decided was to stop working and train.

“Exactly,” Milagros agreed with the girl and she smiled in a way that made Emilio a little bit afraid. “Our plan B heavily relies on your uncle.”
