It was almost five o’clock by the time his phone finally rang. As Emilio was about to pick it up he saw how dirty his hand was and realized it was not the best idea to pick up the phone like that.

  “Ami, can you pick up and tell them to wait while I wash my hands?” He asked his niece while going to wash.

  “Sure, should I say how bloody you are?” She joked.

  “Please don’t, it should be a high executive,” Emilio added seriously.

  “Uhh, it's not. It says it’s Mili,” she informed while picking his phone up.

  She got out today, but might have been inside for a good while. Let’s hope she did well, Emilio thought as he washed himself.

  When he came back he was way more presentable. Well, not presentable, but at least his hands and face did not have fluids that were meant to stay inside of his body. Apparently, when you are cutting yourself with daggers constantly, the blood will splash. Having washed his hands and face, made him look a little bit better, but not good. Luckily, he didn’t need to do a video call.

  “Ami, can I have the phone now?” He asked his niece who was talking about the System with Mili. Apparently, she had bought at least some of the Stat details and they were able to talk more freely.

  “Sure, here you have, bloody uncle,” She said as she gave the phone.

  “Hi Mili, how did it go?” He asked over the phone, while fulminating his niece with his eyes.

  “Not bad,” She answered. “I really have to thank you for pushing me into going as soon as possible, but I do have one question. Why is she calling you ‘bloody uncle’? I feel a story here.”

  Emilio sighed and looked at his niece again, who didn’t look guilty at all.

  “Well, it is not really a story. It’s just that my training methods might be a bit… extreme. You don’t really want to know about this, so back to your issue. Did you earn some Stats to negotiate better? Were you able to purchase the Stats details to talk more freely?”

  “We can talk, but not right now. I got 2 Stat points in the Trial so I was able to purchase all of the details. I decided to go to Mind, which, by the way, is amazing.

  “I have to thank you for your idea of letting me take the trial before the negotiations. You were right and the Stats were a huge plus when I talked with Marcos. As of right now, you are talking to the new CSO of the company and your direct boss if you sign your new contract.”

  “Chief Security Officer? Why? Did she quit or something?” He asked a bit confused, why would Milagros take an information security role?

  “No, it’s Chief System Officer, but now that you mention it, we need to change the name.

  “I will be in charge of anything that has to do with the System. Including coordinating your training and information. It seems that what you said to Marcos had him decide he wanted a new area dedicated only to System stuff and for you to be as high as possible in the hierarchy.

  “At the same time, he needed someone who bought all four Stat details at the very least to manage it, something that I did with your advice. With all that, the fact that you asked for me to be your boss and my history as a manager I was a prime candidate.

  “Once again thank you. Half of the reasons I got the promotion are because of you. Just the fact that I took the Trial before talking with him might have been the key to gain the position. As a reward, you will have to suffer me as your boss in the future!”

  “It’s good to know that I helped you, congratulations on maybe the biggest promotion ever!” Emilio congratulated her. “At the same time, is it really something good? You will not be able to focus on training yourself if you do get the promotion.”

  “I wouldn’t focus on that either way. Given what you talked about with Marcos we don’t need normal talent, we need peak talent and to organize ourselves. I might be a talent, but I doubt I am a peak talent. Instead I am in the prime position to help in other ways. That’s why I decided to raise my Mind. I can manage everything better with a higher Stat. Every point in Mind makes you think as if you have been with a foggy head before, it might be the best Stat for managers and scientists.”

  “Well that is your decision, I would welcome you with open arms,” Emilio accepted her reasoning. After all, it was true that he did need her, and maybe not just him. “Just know that Vitality is also a good Stat. It gives longevity, healing and stamina.”

  “Of course you would defend Vitality, it was your first choice after all. But before you tell me anything else you have to sign your new contract. At this moment I am an executive and before you sign anything you shouldn’t talk.

  “I sent it to your mail together with the contract for your niece’s training. Everything should be as agreed. I revised it myself and took some liberties with what was talked about, but was not on paper. I really want to hear what you have to say, but I am officially the point of contact to get your information. We will talk after you sign it.”

  “Ok, I will check it out. Just know that as long as it is as agreed I will sign it. Should we meet in person for the information? It’s quite important.”

  “Do you want to go to the office right now? You do know what time it is, don’t you?”

  “I’m not that crazy Mili. But you are in the C - Suite, aren’t you? You should be able to have a business meal to talk about serious issues, shouldn’t you?”

  “So, you are saying it is super confidential, but you want to talk about it in a public place?”

  “Delivery exists, doesn't it? You can come here and also meet Ami, who is also part of the deal now. At the same time, we celebrate our promotions.”

  “Oh, I get it, you just want to celebrate and make KimTec pay. I guess I can, but just for you. Don’t go around saying I can make private parties with company money. After all, I am here because of you. I will bring the food. What do you say about gathering at 8:30?”

  “Great,” Emilio smiled as he thought about how much food she was going to have to get. “Just a heads up about what happened after we raised our Stats, we are kind of eating about five times more than before.”

  “Is that a joke to have leftovers for the week?”

  “I would love it to be, but no. We are really eating that much. I completely gave up on cooking. I might spend my whole pay raise on food at this rate.”

  “You know I know how much your new salary is, don’t you? You will not spend that much on food even if you eat 50 times more. But I get it, I will bring a feast.”
