“Capture the flag! Are you guys excited? You'll be able to see all the classes battle for flags, including you guys!”
Mr. Smite says excitedly because it's his favorite assessment to watch. Leo raises his hand.
“I know what capture the flag is, but since it's an assessment for kai craft usage and battle Iq I assume there would be different rules than a normal capture the flag game right?” He asks questioningly.
“Good question, and yes there are different rules than a normal game. The first and second years get two kai tools each for their team. The leftover kai tools are scattered around the area. Each team has a flag obviously, but they can do whatever they want with it. Keep it at the designated base, or keep it on them. The designated base, by the way, is where you have to bring another team's flag to get a point. No killing allowed but fatal wounds are allowed since we have a healer on standby. Anything goes as long as no one dies. Any other questions from the class? No? Well then let's go to the selection then. We're already sort of late because of me.”
Mr. Smite walks faster to not be as late to the kai tool inventory. They walk through the property until they reach a shed. By a huge arena. Mr. Smite opens it only to reveal nothing in there.
“Uh oh. We're more late than I thought. I forgot that we have to head to the commons for the kai tools and introductions.” Leo whispers to Jason.
“How is this guy a teacher, he's so inept.”
They eventually burst through the main doors.
“So to get a point bring a flag to your designated base, same as all the other years You've been her- oh so now you show up with your class Mr. Smite. You're late again.”
A taller woman with Dirty blonde hair and brown eyes says with an upset tone. The man next to her, who looks almost exactly like her except he has brown hair, adds to her thoughts.
“You have been making this quite a habit. You have to respect our authority as principals.”
Mr. Smite looks annoyed.
“‘You have to respect our authority.’ Yeah yeah whatever. We're here now aren't we?”
He says mockingly.
“I already explained the rules to them anyway so it's not like we missed much. All they need to do is pick out their kai tools, same as the second years.”
The principals roll their eyes at the disrespect.
“Fine. The other years already know the rules. First and second years go to the kai tools selection. Pick out your two kai tools and ready yourselves.” The woman says. The man Follows up. “We are Maddison and Mason Katen, the principals of this fine school. The kai tools are on the left, follow the second years.”
They point towards a group of students that are already walking towards the tools while The first years quickly follow suit. A brown skinned Shorter woman with big brown eyes and short black hair leads the first and second years.
“These are the kai tools. Some etiquette Is that we give you guys 5 seconds to choose before us,” she says. “So use it wisely. Time starts now.”
The first years are surprised At the sudden timer. Mia speaks first.
“We have no clue what these do so we must assume the use Of what these do.”
“4” The short woman says.
The other first years agree. They all look around, taking in each weapon quickly.
“3”
“Does anyone here Have any experience using any of these weapon types?” Mia asks.
“Particularly Andrew and Jason?”
“2”
Leo speaks up.
“Jason is good with swords, he has a katana at home that he used to practice with because he found it cool at the time.”
“1”
“I'm good with most weapons, my family has a trait that makes us have below average kai so we use weapons quite often. I can use anything.” Andrew adds on very fast afterwards.

The second years grab their kai tools they choose without hesitation. A tanned guy with light brown eyes and wavy black hair grabs a card deck. At the same time a white girl with ashy hair and hazel eyes grabs a claw shaped gauntlet.
“Okay well I guess we have time to decide now,” Jason remarks.
“I'll take the weird black blade.”
He says as he grabs it.
“Ew it's kind of wet but not at the same time, hard to describe.”
Andrew grabs a staff.
“I usually find staffs cool, good for defense and decent for offense.”
The brown skin girl interrupts.
“We should introduce ourselves. I'm silvana.”
She points to the tan guy who picked up the cards.
“That's Josh,”
she points to the white girl who grabbed the gauntlet.
“Luna,”
she moves on to a very tall white guy with green eyes and short brown hair.
“Tien,”
She finally gets to the last person, a short white guy with dark brown eyes and black curly short hair.
“Finally Samuel, Sam for short. He is transgender and respect that. Your turn.”
after she listed off each name rapidly the first years go. Leo acts as the main speaker for them.
“I'm Leo,”
He gestures to Jason.
“This is Jason, my best friend, Andrew, Mia, and Felix.” He says.
“By the way, how Do we know what our chosen kai tools do?” Leo asks them.
“skip the formalities, I want to battle already. Just listen to the principals.”
Josh says as he turns around and walks towards the principals. The second years turn and walk with Josh with the first years following. The principals notice their arrival however Mason has a notepad.
“What kai tools did you all choose? First years then second years.”
Jason holds up the sword.
“I have a weird black wet-ish sword thing.”
Maddison glances at it.
“Ever Changing blade is the proper name. It's an almost liquid blade that has a mind of its own and can change form to adapt to the situation and become a weapon to suit the fight, changing form will not get rid of the property and it will not harm the user. Next person.”
Andrew shows the staff.
“Sun Wukong's staff. It's unbreakable, gives a small boost to your physical stats, it has size and weight manipulation, can levitate, and can clone itself. Second years now.”
Josh shows the deck before she can finish the sentence.
“Fortune deck. It can buff or debuff your current kai amount. -10% per the weakest. Starting at ace decreases it by 50% and up to number 5, where it gets rid of 10% of your kai amount. 6 and above increase kai by 10% per. With number 10 getting to +50%, Jack +70%, Queen +100% and king +150%. Next.”
Luna offers her gauntlet up.
“Black Dragon Claw. it Simply increases your kai output Extremely so. All of the kai tools are done, let's move to the actual arena. It's a large forest for the arena.”
Maddison and Mason nod to a short white woman with blue eyes and black hair. Her eyebags make her look like she hasn't slept in a while even though she has. The woman waves her hand over everyone as They all sink into the shadows. Each year reappears at their respective designated base. A loud voice speaks, recognized as Mason.
“Flags are behind you. Remember you can do whatever you like with it, but if someone steals it and takes it to their designated base, they get a point. You want as many points as you can. Your flag will glow when it is someone else's point. Also do your best because this will also decide your school rank. 3.”
Leo looks at his team, taking everyone in with their weapons.
“What shall we do with our flag? Have someone hold it or keep it here?”
Mia adds her thoughts first.
“Andrew is the best here physically so he should hold it. Keep it away with your speed and the staff can Amp you to play keep away if needed. Otherwise we should be fine.”
“1.”
The first years all nod.
“Go!”
The first years run off with Andrew carrying the flag on his back. The second years run off with their flag, with Josh holding it.
“If I have the flag more people will be after me which will mean more fights. It's not up for discussion.”
He said during the countdown, and the other second years begrudgingly agreed. The third years leave their flag behind and the fourth Years leave a flag behind. As the first years are running off to find a flag, they take in their surroundings.
“Given I didn't see any clear areas leading to the outside, we aren't all put in a corner but rather Spread out through the entire forest in an unpredictable manner. Keep your eyes in all directions and keep your ears open as well.” Mia states.
Everyone agrees.
“Okay!”
After 10 minutes of running Andrew hears some leaves rustling.
“Guys wait. I hear something.” He says to them.
“Reeve and Pomlh left already but Reeve said the kai tools would be around here, so where is it?” A faint voice asks.
Some other voices respond equally confused.
“Another team. We could get the jump on them if we go now!” Andrew tells his fellow first years.
“You won't get the chance.” A voice says from above in a tree.
As he drops down he kicks Andrew away towards his teammates.
“We're Reeve and Pomlh.”
He points to a blond guy with tan skin and green eyes. Reeve holds a big warhammer While Pomlh holds a katana that looks as if it's singeing.
Summoning vessels are creatures that can be made from certain kai tools or kai crafts. Some vessels have special powers and others have brute force. Almost all of them have requirements to keep summoned or alive.
