Chapter 75: First Victory & A Reunion of "Old Friends"

  The Balrog Lord was dead.

He died miserably, and he died thoroughly.

The Slayer hadn't given him any chance to deliver a villainous monologue. The moment he reached the command platform, he had severed the Balrog Lord’s magma-infused spine with his chainsaw, then kicked the severed head straight into the volcano below.

Without their leader, the remaining demon army routed instantly.

The Slayer stood atop the command platform, bathed in blood (mostly green demon blood and volcanic ash), with a field of mechanical wreckage at his feet.

  "Hoo..."

  He exhaled a long breath.

  This battle was satisfying.

He had emptied his ammo bags three times, overheated the chainsaw twice, and even the BFG's barrel was glowing a faint red.

This high-intensity release made every cell in his body cheer.

Just then, Singularity’s voice came over the broadcast, tinged with the surprise of someone discovering a new continent:

"Great Warrior! Wait! Don't clock out just yet!"

"The radar shows another... uh... very strange unit approaching."

"Their energy fluctuations... they don't look like native Abyssal demons. They feel more like... 'Old Friends' from our side?"

  The Slayer turned around.

From behind the routed demon army, a unit with a bizarrely conflicting art style slowly marched out.

There weren't many of them—only about a hundred. But they didn't smell of chaotic sulfur; instead, they emitted a cold, damp scent of rotting corpses.

Leading them was a massive, headless monstrosity.

Its chest housed two electronic eyes glowing with infrared light. Its navel had been modified into a massive, rotating alloy meat grinder. Instead of a battle axe, it wielded a Beam Energy Great Axe and an anti-gravity tower shield.

Behind it followed a squad of corpses wearing tattered Qing Dynasty official robes. But their legs had been replaced with high-strength hydraulic springs, and electronic control chips were pasted on their foreheads where Daoist talismans used to be.

  [Unit: Cyber-Xingtian (Headless Heavy Titan)]

  [Unit: Mecha-Jiangshi (Mechanical Hopping Corpse)]

  Singularity gasped over the comms:

"Holy crap! Is that Xingtian?! And... is that the missing shipment of hopping corpses from the Xiangxi Corpse Driving Sect?!"

"How did they end up here? And they got... modded by the Abyss?"

This "Eastern Foreign Legion" was obviously a trump card hidden by the Balrog Lord.

The meat grinder mouth on the Headless Titan's belly emitted a muffled electronic synthesized voice:

  "Intruder... detected... Initiating... purge... sequence..."

Before the voice faded, the Mecha-Jiangshi behind it moved.

  BOING!

  The hydraulic springs released instantly.

The jumping ability of these zombies was absurd. Like a swarm of out-of-control fleas, they cleared hundreds of meters in a single bound, descending from the sky straight at the Slayer.

Their outstretched arms ended not in fingernails, but in high-frequency vibrating titanium claws.

  The Slayer tilted his head.

  Never seen this mob before.

  Interesting.

  The first Jiangshi pounced.

The Slayer instinctively raised his shotgun and aimed for the head.

  BANG!

  The Jiangshi's head exploded.

  But it didn't die.

  It didn't even stop.

The headless corpse, driven by the command chip on its remaining forehead fragment (or perhaps the chip was connected to the spine), continued to slash with its claws.

  Scrrrrape!

The blade raked across the Slayer's shoulder plate, actually leaving a white scratch.

"Great Warrior! They are zombies! They feel no pain! And the head isn't the weak point!" Singularity shouted. "The Chip! Aim for the control chip! Or just break the spine!"

  The Slayer stepped back.

  No headshots?

  Fine.

  The Slayer holstered his gun.

Facing the second pouncing Jiangshi, he didn't fire.

He timed it perfectly, reached out with both hands, and grabbed the Jiangshi's outstretched arms.

  SNAP!

He forcibly folded the titanium claws and the arm bones backward.

Then, the Slayer raised his right leg.

  Front Kick.

This kick landed squarely on the Jiangshi's chest.

The immense force instantly snapped its spine, launching it like a cannonball back into the pack, knocking down a whole row of zombies behind it.

At this moment, the Headless Titan (Cyber-Xingtian) rushed to the front.

It swung its Beam Great Axe, slashing down with the force to split a mountain.

The Slayer performed a slide, dodging the slash and rolling right under the Titan's feet.

  He looked up.

  This thing has no head.

How do you Glory Kill something with no head?

The Slayer's gaze landed on the massive, rotating meat grinder mouth on the Titan's belly.

If you don't have a head...

I'll make a "weak point" for you.

The Slayer pulled out a frag grenade.

  He didn't throw it.

Holding the grenade, he activated his Dash thrusters and jumped straight up.

He stuffed the grenade right into the meat grinder on the Titan's belly.

  "Eat this."

The Slayer kicked off the Titan and landed.

  BOOM!!!

The grenade detonated inside the Titan's stomach. The meat grinder jammed and exploded. The two electronic eyes on the Titan's chest flickered twice, then went dark. The colossal body crashed to the ground.

With their leader down, the remaining Mecha-Jiangshi moved stiffly, their coordination broken.

  The Slayer drew his Chainsaw.

What followed was purely "gardening work."

  Vrr-vrr-vrr—!

The zombies were tough, but against an enchanted chainsaw, they were brittle.

  A few minutes later.

The bizarrely styled "Eastern Foreign Legion" was wiped out.

Singularity arrived on the battlefield piloting several engineering puppets. Looking at the scatte...
