Chapter 74: One-Man Army

The whine of the Chaingun's electric motor spinning up to max RPM sounded like a screaming steel banshee.

  VREEEEEEEEE—!!!

The moment the Slayer squeezed the trigger, the muzzle didn't just spit tongues of fire; it unleashed a continuous, three-meter-long beam of blue-white light.

It was thousands of depleted uranium armor-piercing rounds—enchanted by the "Spirit Gathering Array"—compressed into a singular ray of destruction.

  DA-DA-DA-DA-DA-DA-DA-DA-DA-DA-DA-DA!!!

The vanguard of the demon tide looked like it had slammed into an invisible wall of grinders.

The first row of several hundred Imps was instantly vaporized, turning into a fine red mist.

The second row of Hell Knights saw their heavy plating torn apart like wet paper, their bodies exploding into chunks of meat mid-stride.

The demons behind them couldn't stop their momentum, tripping over the fallen only to cross that fatal line and join the pile of gore.

The Slayer stood on a protruding rock, his boots digging deep into the ground to counteract the massive recoil.

  He didn't sweep the gun.

  He didn't need to sweep.

The enemy density was so high that simply firing forward ensured every bullet pierced through at least three targets.

  Five seconds.

In just five seconds, a mountain of minced meat and severed limbs piled up in front of the Slayer.

But that was just the appetizer.

In the sky, swarms of Pain Elementals and Cacodemons began their dive, attempting a bombardment from above.

The Slayer released the Chaingun's trigger.

In less than 0.5 seconds, he completed a Weapon Switch.

The modified Ballista, strapped to his back, slid into his hands.

  [Mod: Destroyer Blade] — Charging.

  Hummmmm—

A horizontal blade of red energy, fifty meters wide, materialized at the front of the Ballista.

The Slayer looked up at the sky full of demons and released the string.

  SHING——————!!!

The red energy blade screamed across the sky, sweeping the horizon.

Unauthorized tale usage: if you spot this story on Amazon, report the violation.

It was like a giant scythe harvesting wheat.

The entire flock of flying demons was cleanly bisected at the waist the moment they touched the wave.

Hundreds of burning upper torsos rained down like a meteor shower, smashing into the demon army below and igniting further chaos.

  "ROAR!!!"

In the distance, the Fire Demon Lord watched this unfold, shaking with rage.

  "Useless! You are all useless!"

  "Heavy Mech Division! Crush him!"

  The earth trembled violently.

Dozens of 10-meter-tall Cyber-Mancubi and Tyrants (based on the Cyberdemon archetype) marched out, shoving aside the fodder. Their armor was thick enough to shrug off standard rockets, and their arm cannons began to glow.

This was a heavy armored force strong enough to breach the gates of the Netherworld itself.

Singularity screamed over the broadcast: "Great Warrior! Those are heavy units! Standard bullets won't penetrate! Use the BFG!"

The Slayer didn't use the BFG.

That kind of super-weapon was reserved for targets that deserved it.

  He stowed the Ballista.

  He didn't rush in blindly.

Standing his ground, he switched weapons again.

  The Super Shotgun.

  But he didn't fire.

He aimed at a Cyber-Mancubus about 30 meters away.

  [Meat Hook] — Launch!

The barbed chain shot out, digging deep into the gap of the behemoth's heavy armor.

In the next second, the Slayer didn't pull himself to the demon.

Instead, he used the tension to launch himself backward, engaging his [Dash] thrusters.

  It was a reverse maneuver.

He traced a bizarre arc in the air, using the centripetal force of the hook to orbit the Mancubus like a high-speed satellite.

Mid-flight, he pulled the trigger right against the giant's head.

  BANG!

A point-blank shot to the eye (Weak Point).

The Slayer didn't land. While still airborne, he Quick-Switched to the Rocket Launcher.

  [Lock-on Burst].

Three rockets drilled into the Mancubus's rear exhaust ports.

  BOOM!

The giant dropped to its knees, entering a [Staggered / Glory Kill State].

The Slayer released the hook, letting the momentum carry him onto the head of a nearby Tyrant.

  [Blood Punch] — Charged.

  DOOM!!!

He slammed a fist into the Tyrant's skull. The shockwave shattered the Tyrant's armor and liquified three nearby Imps into paste.

He danced on the heads of dozens of heavy demons.

  Hook, Dash, Switch, Execute.

  Hook, Dash, Switch, Execute.

He was like a lethal hornet weaving through a herd of clumsy elephants. The heavy mechs couldn't even touch his cape; instead, their panic fire decimated their own ranks.

  "ROAR—?!"

The Fire Demon Lord watched, dumbfounded.

  What he saw was this:

The human charged into his army of 100.000.

And then... his army was surrounded.

  Surrounded by one man.

No matter where the demons ran, the green figure seemed to be waiting for them, accompanied by the roar of chainsaws and gunfire.

The center of the battlefield had become a giant meat grinder vortex.

And the Slayer was the eye of the storm.

His armor was painted dark red with demon viscera.

  But he didn't stop.

  He didn't even breathe heavy.

  He was enjoying the process.

Suddenly, the Slayer stopped atop the corpse of a freshly executed Tyrant.

He raised his head, looking past the chaotic battlefield, locking his gaze dead on the Fire Demon Lord standing on the command platform in the distance.

He raised his hand and made a slow, deliberate throat-slitting gesture.

Then, he shouldered the BFG, leaped off the mountain of corpses, and charged straight for the Lord.

The demons standing in his way instinctively... stepped back.

  Fear.

This emotion spread through the demon legion like a virus.

  They realized one thing:

This man was not prey trapped in a cage.

He was a doomsday machine running at full power, incapable of being switched off.

  Quantity vs. Quality.

In the face of absolute quality, quantity is just a meaningless number.

  The Slayer proved with action:

As long as you kill fast enough, even an infinite army is just a line of waiting XP packs.
