Chapter 79: Field Test

At the far end of the Abyss's Second Layer stood a colossal fortress known as the "Iron Nest."

This was the stronghold of a heavy mechanized demon legion.

Standing guard before the massive metal gates were two "Tyrants" (Cyberdemons), each standing eight meters tall. They were mobile artillery platforms of Hell, covered in reactive armor, with a rocket launcher for a left arm and a laser cannon for a right.

In the past, the Slayer might have used his Meat Hook for mobility, or simply cleared the board with the BFG.

But now, he wanted to test his new toy.

  The Slayer strode forward.

  The Tyrants detected him immediately.

  "INTRUDER DETECTED. EXTERMINATE."

Both Tyrants raised their weaponized arms. Missiles and lasers locked onto the tiny figure.

  The Slayer didn't dodge.

He stopped exactly fifty meters away.

At this range, a shotgun is typically useless. The spread is too wide, the damage fall-off too severe.

But the weapon in his hands was no ordinary shotgun. It had Demon Steel Barrels and Samadhi True Fire rounds.

  The Slayer raised the gun.

He didn't even bother with precise aiming.

  BANG!

  Shot One.

The exceptional focusing effect of the Demon Steel barrel kept the pellets in a tight, high-density cluster even after fifty meters.

The shot hit the Tyrant on the left, squarely in its chest reactive armor.

  There was no surface explosion.

Instead, the rounds melted through the armor like a hot knife through butter, silent and deadly.

A split second later, a burst of tri-colored flame erupted from within the hole.

The Samadhi True Fire had detonated the Tyrant's internal energy core.

  BOOM!!!

Before the Tyrant could even fire a single missile, it exploded from the inside out, turning into a pile of smoking scrap metal.

  Insta-kill.

The Tyrant on the right froze. Its logic processor couldn't comprehend this damage value.

The Slayer gave it no time to calculate.

  Ka-chunk.

  Reload.

  BANG!

  Shot Two.

This time, the Slayer aimed for the leg.

The shot shattered the knee joint.

It didn't just break the leg. The True Fire acted like a sentient virus, spreading instantly up the Tyrant's hydraulic lines, burning out every transmission system in its body.

The massive beast crashed to the ground. It wasn't dead, but it was completely paralyzed.

The Slayer walked up to it.

He looked down at the immobilized giant.

He extended a hand over the burning Samadhi True Fire on the demon's leg—not to warm his hands, but to let the flames regenerate his armor. It wasn't hot; it was nourishing.

  [Armor: 100%]

Then, he pulled out the Chainsaw.

  Vrr-vrr-vrr—

Although the gun was powerful, for the final execution, he still preferred the personal touch.

  Battle Complete.

The Slayer stood at the gates of the fortress.

He looked back at Singularity, who was hiding behind a rock in the distance.

He raised the shotgun, the barrel still emitting wisps of tri-colored smoke.

And then, very solemnly, he gave a thumbs up.

  This weapon... qualifies.

  Theory vs. Practice.

Data in the lab is pretty, but nothing beats a one-shot kill on the battlefield.

The Slayer turned and kicked the "Iron Nest" gate off its hinges.

The demons inside had no idea that what was walking in was no longer just a warrior.

It was a Demon God wielding an Artifact.

"Next Chapter: The BFG Charging Issue. The Big F***ing Gun eats too much power; the Netherworld can't pay the electricity bill. Singularity decides... to let the demons pick up the check."
