Things escalated slowly. After the surprise invisible bastard, they tried sneaking in. Sometimes with infantry, other times with vehicles.
She had to keep an eye out even as she engaged a revenant with 2 ghosts as escort. She fired a missile, blowing off the plasma mortar from the revenant. The driver and passenger in the revenant were bisected where they extended from the vehicle. It swerved into a building, getting stuck.
She switched to IR/NV to both finish the the ghosts and check for cloaked hostiles. She knew the motion sensor could be fooled by going slow enough, but heat? Couldn't escape that.
She finished the ghosts with short bursts from her 40mm, and turned to the other avenues of aproach she was guarding. She found 3 heat spots in 1, and quickly mulched them with a few rounds. She checked the others but found nothing, so she turned back and waited.
It wasn't long before another wave of vehicles, this time with infantry came at her team, this time simultaneously.
Two revenants, 3 choppers and assorted infantry came from multiple angles. She quickly rippled missiles at the fast moving choppers, ripping them apart and sending the drivers flying.
She switched her 40mm to the higher RPM mode, and sent bursts at the revenants before they could get a bead on her. She pasted one crew in the first volley, and the second revenant detonated after 2 volleys.
She pulled back, trying to get a good angle on the most targets. Stray plasma rounds struck her shield, lowering it down even as she opened up.
She switched firerates and started stitching rounds into the smaller groups, while launching a missile at the larger concentrations.
Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.
They were going down when she spotted a grunt rapid firing a fuelrod gun everywhere. She moved to dodge the shots coming vaguely at her, while still shooting every hostile she could see.
When the wave was over, she again got in position to wait. It was about time that-
The district sound of a wraith firing cut that thought off. The big gun was here. She moved forward, just in case the giant plasma ball landed near her, and kept scanning.
Soon enough, her own wraith came around, and it's turreted plasma cannon opened up. Shots sprayed her shield, lowering it to 70%, and she returned fire by sending 2 missiles, and opening up fully with her 40.
The two missiles slammed into the wraith in quick succession, blowing out the front. The 40mm breaking internals, pasting the gunners head, and finishing off the driver. It soon detonated, blowing out the sides of nearby buildings.
From the sound of things, there were more engaging her teammates, but she ignored it. She went back to her position and scanned for anything.
2 more waves, with a wraith and supporting elements passed, and now it was time for the final wave.
They came from all sides. Wraiths, Revenants, ghosts and choppers. Infantry of all types swarmed towards them, and the battle was on.
She slung missiles at the heavy vehicles, taking out a wraith and 2 revenants in quick succession. She sent bursts at the fastest targets, mulching light vehicles as they came. Some dodged, but she held down the trigger, and they crumpled.
When the missile launcher reloaded, she fired sporadically at targets of opportunity. Her shield was lowering at a visible rate, with no room to recharge. She did her best, but her shields popped, and she was now taking hull damage.
She dodged the heavier weapons, avoiding fuel rods like dodgeball. If one hit, it would seriously damage something, at best. She kept firing, taking out plasma cannons and fuel rods at a priority.
Her mech highlighting priority targets helped immensely with target acquisition, keeping her in the fight. She killed squads of jackles, grunts, brutes and elites where they showed.
She eventually stopped when the enemies ran out. She scanned her sector, looking for survivors, but found none. She had cleared her wave.
Her shields started to raise, and she checked her status. Her left leg was damaged but functional, and her main body was almost out of proper armor.
She called on comms. "My section is all clear."
"Same, LT."
"Clear! Holy shit, did we do it?"
"Maybe. Status?" She ordered.
"Left leg crippled, missile launcher is gone. Rest is ok."
"Uh, moderate damage to just about everything besides my right foot."
"My left leg got hit, still mobile. Cockpit almost got fried. Keep your eyes- oh, never mind. Well done." As she was speaking, a 'scenario cleared' notification popped in. They had won for the first time, and by God it felt good.
