Twins

Vex slammed his hands on the table "Twins really do exist?!"

The slam shook the table, and Akito's book dropped to the floor.

Akito's eye twitched as he stretched his hand to grab the book.

He placed it back on the table and closes the book with a light thump "What.. do you mean? 'Twins really do exist'?"

Vex flailed his hands around "Well, where i come from there aren't really any twins, its more like a myth, i guess.."

Vex raised his voice "Anyways! what were you reading?"

Akito exhaled "I 'was' reading about the town's history. I love learning about the past, you see.."

He got up from his chair, grabbing the book and sliding it back into the bookshelf "It can always teach you about the future as well."

Akito sits back on his chair and fiddles with his fingers "When you notice the stuff said in between the lines."

A small cut appears on the tip of Akito's finger, dripping a single drop of blood on the table "Well, it seems like Akuya and Risu have reached their spot."

He sighs "They shouldn't take that long to come back."

Akito cleans off the blood with his hand, leaning back on his chair.

Vex looks at Akito's finger in awe "Why.. did a cut just magically appear on your hand?"

Akito took a deep breath "Its.. really simple. Twins basically build a pact, on birth. Two identical souls, just fused into one!"

He clasped his hands "Our bodies share the same condition, when he gets hurt, we both get hurt.. and its even mundane things too! When I eat, we both feel saturated, and it works like that for basically everything."

Vex's eyes widen "That's really cool! But, what about.. a habel, is one of you a wielder? Does that make the other one as well?"

Akito sighed, looking up, at the roof "Yes, when Akuya awakened.. so did I. Old times, heh."

He let out a dry laugh.

Vex grinned "that sounds amazing! And what about 'the awakener'? Such a cool nickname! I only heard Aurelis trash on him when we walked here.."

Akito blinked twice, staring blankly at Vex.

His eyes lit up shortly after "Oh! You must mean the mayor of this town, Meise."

Akito tapped his fingers on the table "Yes, everyone tend to call him that since he is known to be powerful. But I don't know much about him... he did recently leave for some sort of expedition to.."

He tapped his chin "Well, we were told there is this new organization forming up.. we don't even know the name. But he promised something along the lines of 'he'll stop them before anything bad happens'"

Vex nods enthusiastically "Sounds amazing! I wish I could meet him..."

As the two talked, sounds of tremors interrupted their conversation, making a book fall from one of the shelves.

Akito sighed, getting up from his chair "Well, I've only seen him once, and it was just a quick glance. So I really cant tell you much about him.."

He grabbed the book and stood on his toes, placing it back "I would do a lot just to meet him. He seems really wise, probably knows a bunch about the past.."

Another tremor shook the house, louder this time.

Akito lost his balance and fell as he moved to sit.

Vex rushed to help, stretching his hand towards Akito.

Akito grabbed Vex's hand, getting up and scratching his head "Thank you.. I swear, they need to fix these gates. These type of shockwaves happen way too often."

Akito grabbed another book from the bookshelf, and the two sat back down.

Vex pointed at Akito's book "What book is this?"

Akito fixed his glasses "Ah, I personally love this one! Its about color theories, you know.. how certain colors can mean certain things. I find it really astonishing honestly, I've read this book a ton of times and i still enjoy reading it!"

Vex's head wobbles. The moment Akito opens his mouth, Vex interrupts him "Oh! Almost forgot, in all this library of yours, got anything to tell me about dragons?"

Akito's eyes lock on Vex, intrigued "You.. you mean the ones that went extinct thousands of years ago?"

Vex nods "I want to defeat one! You see, I don't believe they all went extinct."

Akito jumps on his chair, pointing his finger at Vex "Wh- why would you even attempt to fight one?!"

Vex stumbled back, his eyes darting between Akito and his book.

He cleared his throat "Well, I.. need to prove something, to someone. Fulfill a promise, I guess.."

Akito's eyebrow twitched, he sat back down, speaking in a bitter tone "Dragons huh? I.. wouldn't really give a hand to 'slaying' one if they do still exist.. but I understand promises."

Akito got up from his chair, making his way to the book shelf.

He stretched his arm forward, his finger twitching lightly, before pulling out a green book with golden linings that resembled a branch "This book should contain everything I've got on dragons.."

He made his way back to Vex, opening the book on the table.

Vex's fists tightened, leaving crescent marks. He reassures Akito "Any info helps! Really!"

Akito sighed, flipping through the pages "So, dragons are huge ancient creatures, people say they wielded the most powerful form of habels. Some records show they could take the form of a human."

Vex nodded, smiling "that's so cool!"

Akito nodded reluctantly "Yeah.. anyways, most of them were said to be friendly. But.. if you were to fight one, you'd probably lose... oh, and one last thing. They went extinct by-"

A big shockwave interrupted Akito. One strong enough to shake their house to the point some debris fell.

Akito's jaw tightened "Alright. This isn't normal."

He got up on his feet with a soft thump, gesturing Vex to follow him out.
