After crushing a rebellion in the Heylin Empire, the young Prince Adrian Maryy travels to Taisia to confront Old King Varelion. The king forces Adrian to sit through a presentation on the dangers of flying machines, given by the chairman of the local central bank. After the chairman leaves, the king asks, "Why do we share the world with these charlatans?"
