Nineteen (Mid September 1993)

  Rebecca Pov

It was Saturday morning and we were at Patsy's house, as Leo was working, Donte was doing his homework somewhere within the house (but not the living room), and Donavon was sleeping still, I was sitting on the couch with a cuppa in hand, Patsy was doing something in the kitchen, (not Sodabread as that was already made), but then he came in with his cuppa.

"Patsy, can I talk to you about something?"

"As long as it's not a murder confession, the floor's yours"

"I went to a party last weekend and I drank-"

"Teenagers drink sometimes, you didn't end up puking your guts up, because your Da would've told me if ya had, as that happened to poor Donte the weekend before, it's not ideal but shit happens"

That probably would've made me feel better if I had only been drinking at parties, (because Patsy was a wise old man, not that he'd like me calling him old), but I wasn't, I was drinking at least a drink a day, (and that's a wildly understated of course babes), and if you're wondering why I was talking to Patsy rather than Dad here, Patsy was the engaged on what Leo could react like.

"That's the thing, um, it's not just at parties like that, I realised that I had a problem last weekend"

"Oh so you've been drinking most of the time?"

  "Yeah"

  "What made you realise?"

"I out drank Micky and then he revealed that he would've had me give him a blowjob"

"There's so much that is wrong with that whole statement Rebecca- wait you told me that this wasn't a murder confession!"

"It's not, I broke his nose while screaming at the top of my lungs that he was a fucking perv"

"Then how did he end up dead?"

  "He's fucking dead?!"

I didn't know that Micky was dead before this, I knew that nobody had seen him since that night, but he had done some disappearing acts before, so that wasn't that out of the ordinary, it just felt odd though, and I still can't pinpoint why it felt odd, (all I knew was that I didn't fucking kill him).

"Ok you genuinely didn't know, did your loverboy take you home?"

"Yes Levi took me home, though I don't know what he did after that, he looked like he was gonna burst a blood vessel when I told him what Micky said"

  "Could he have done it?"

"Levi?, no, he couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag, let alone kill anyone, you can ask Donte if you really want to, but he'd tell you the same thing as I did"

"No, I believe ya kiddo, do ya want a cuppa?, I'll make us a cuppa"

So Patsy went and made us both a cuppa, I stayed sat on the couch while he was doing that, but then Donte came into the living room, (it's because he heard me yell out 'He's fucking dead?!').

  "Are you ok Becca?"

  "Yeah, why wouldn't I be?"

"All I heard was 'He's fucking dead?!' so thought that I should check"

  "Yeah, that was about Micky-"

"Micky the drunk?!, why were you talking about him for?"

"I was telling Granbob about what happened last weekend"

"You haven't even told Dad what happened last weekend"

"Yeah well, Granbob's a soundboard for Dad"

  "Dammit that makes total sense"

"I do try to make sense"

  "So what happened?"

"You're not knowing about what happened before Dad, you'll find out afterwards"

  "Alright fine"

Donte then went back upstairs to grab something, (I don't know what, as I wasn't paying that much attention to him), Granbob came back in with cuppas in hand, as a cuppa always helps when shit's about to hit the fan, (and it was about to hit the fan).

"You know what you have to do now?"

"Talk to Dad about my drinking and about what happened last weekend-"

"I know about what happened before your Da?!, I'm shite with secrets!"

"I'm gonna talk to him after he comes home from work today, you were like the soundboard for it"

"How are you so calm about this?"

"I'm actually not, we have Rita to thank for my lack of an outward reaction to this whole thing"

"I'm not thanking her for shit, I don't like how she treated you Kiddo"

"I don't love it either but that's just how she is, she'll probably realise that it's not right when there's none of us around her"

If it wasn't for the fact that Patsy knew that I wasn't always a talker, the silence would've been deafening and maybe even all consuming, but it wasn't, but it was a normal silence, (which sounds weird to say but it's the true).
