Chapter 44
Welcoming Dinner

Tonight's dinner will be conducted differently. Instead of dining together we will be separated. The ladies including Johanna and Geneva will be in the main dining room while us men along with Killian and Vlad will be in the private area. We will have dessert together in the main hall but this gives us time to get to know each other better. We will not mention the twins yet. I don't know if Hynes and his wife can be trusted with that big of a secret yet. Hynes had stated he doesn't mind listening to children's ideas. We are going to test him. I know he didn't lie about his answer but he needs to see and understand for himself how deep the kids are involved in discussions and decisions.
Sophie-Ann and Wayne will be coming to dinner as well. The doctor had cleared him to finish the competition but Sophie-Ann put her foot down and told him no. Maybe we could think of another position for him. He is going to be surprised by what we came up with for him.
When our guest arrived we split and went to our dining rooms. Catalina, Mom and Dianna had made poached salmon, asparagus, red potatoes with butter and a cucumber salad. As we ate we talked about what changes Hynes and Thoran would like to make if any. Haynes and Thoran both mentioned having women and children train to defend themselves. We do offer self defense classes but this will be mandatory training. I agree with their plans then Thoran says something that floored me. He looked at Wayne and asked him if he would be willing to help train the orphans. We didn't have many, only 3, they are siblings. Wayne said he would love to train them. Haynes dropped another bomb. He said the family who had been hosting the siblings, was expecting a child of their own and the selfish bastards no longer wanted to raise children that weren't of their blood. I thought Wayne was going to flip the table over at this news. I was just as mad but Wayne was more furious. How can people be so selfish? Those children lost both parents. What happened to their parents? I informed Wayne that their mother passed away from cancer and their father took his own life because he couldn't bear to be without his mate. The next moment was a flash. A woman busted in our dining room furious. I know this woman, Sophie-Ann. She looked pissed and she grabbed Wayne by his shirt collar and said he better not even think of not taking these children in. I am already thinking of how to paint their rooms. Wayne pulls his mate into his lap and hugs her and tells her he was just about to ask how they could adopt them. She laughs and says I know you wouldn't deny 3 children a happy home. She kissed his cheek. I asked Sophie how she knew we were talking about the children. She tells us she overheard us talking about it when she was coming to tell us that dessert was being served in the main dining room. I smile and say that this a much
better the plan that I had for Wayne. This is wonderful for him and Sophie-Ann.
Catilena volunteered to go pick up the 3 children so they could meet the family who wanted to adopt them and the other family members who would be surrounding them with love.
Cat linked me and said that she had a problem. The family was refusing to let her see the children. Red flags automatically started to form in my mind. I ran to the house where the children had been living for 5 months. I demanded to see the children. They still refused. I used my Alpha Aura as it grew, almost choking out all the air around. The foster parents relented. The children came up from the basement. They were filthy, their clothes weren't fit to be called rags. Their hair hadn't been brushed. The abuse they have suffered was clearly visible on their little bodies. Not caring if the female was pregnant or not I sent both the adults to the dungeon. I notified Lou and Ann to come and examine the children. Wayne and Sophie-Ann came and talked to the children and told them they will never be hurt ever again and that they wanted them to be their children forever. The kids cried because they haven't been shown love in a long while. They went to the clinic with the children for their examination. The extent of their injuries would determine the foster parents' punishment. Lou had also called a few child psychologists to come and talk to the children to determine if any mental damage had been done to them and also to determine if Wayne and Sophie-Ann are mentally and financially stable enough to adopt the children. The children were 10,8 and 6 years of age and emaciated. They will need to stay in the hospital until they gain a healthy weight and their injuries healed. Wayne and Sophie-Ann refused to leave the children alone in the hospital. It was agreed upon by the psychiatrist that it would be a good idea if their soon to be adopted parents stayed with them.

As I left the hospital I got the copies of the doctor's reports. I called everyone to the office.
Sorry I have to interrupt everyone's meal but this is important. As you know a very important intervention just took place involving 3 children. These are the doctors' reports. The people responsible are in the dungeon. The woman claims to be pregnant. We need to do an exam on her to make sure she isn't lying and decide a punishment for 3 counts of abuse to 3 minors. The normal punishment is death but if the woman is pregnant then we need to tread lightly for now.
Hynes says his mate can tell if the woman is pregnant. He introduces his mate. Her name is Ryan. Ryan explains what is required to perform the necessary procedure. She continues saying it is a broth that detects pregnancy. If a woman is pregnant it doesn't do anything. If she isn't, it will make her ill. I gave her my permission to make the broth. She nods and tells us she will have it ready in 15 minutes. We go to the main dining room. As we wait. I received an update from Ann. The children had multiple bruises but no sign of broken bones but the abuse of starvation and beatings are prominent. The children are doing well and are receiving care and seem to be attached to Wayne and Sophie-Ann calling them Mom and Dad already. I relay this information to everyone. Vlad stands up and says I think we should do a DNA test. I'm shocked at the thought of this child then Jo speaks up. We know what Wayne and Sophie-Ann have been through and if these evil people are doing experiments it's possible that they are using men and women to produce babies in a lab and it's possible that these children are their children that no one knew existed. I contact Lou and tell him to run DNA tests on the children, Wayne and Sophie. He doesn't ask questions and says he will have the test completed in a few hours.
Ryan returns and I ask her if there was any way to prove paternity of the unborn child. She laughs and says Alpha I heard your conversation from the kitchen. I already was suspecting you to ask so I added a few ingredients for that specific recipe.
I asked how they knew of the children. Ryan said her being head chef in the pack house, she hears things and heard the foster parents talking about having to get rid of the children now that they were expecting their own and how they couldn't believe that those brats were left in their care to begin with. I had told Hynes what I heard and he said he would bring the matter up with you tonight. We have never seen the children and it concerned us deeply.
I tell Ryan I appreciate her bringing this to our attention. As far I knew the two families arrived together to get away from their old pack and came here for sanctuary. Then the mother passed shortly after and her mate killed himself because the physical and emotional pain of losing his mate was too much for him to overcome. It made sense to me that since the 2 couples arrived together, to send the children to people they knew, instead of strangers.
D hugged me and told me this isn't my fault this happened, but I should have been more careful. Thoran said that he has a plan. We can start updating the pack history and vet all members and try to weed out threats. Soon we have the perfect plan. A census and having it spelled to find the liars if they're hiding anything or anyone.
Ryan asks if she can go to the dungeon alone since she is known to the criminals and they won't suspect her of anything. I don't agree but Maurice says he will go with her and hide in the shadows. When they went to the dungeon we were watching the CTV listening. The woman and man took the bowls of broth and drank them. Soon the woman became violently ill and the man passed out.
Ryan and Maurice came into the office and she said the woman is not pregnant and the reason the man passed out is because has no sperm count. He either has an injury or possibly isn't a male at all. The broth is meant for men who have seeds and the broth should have shown a thread indicating the baby is his. We need to do an exam on him. I tell the guards to take him to the hospital while he is unconscious and link Lou telling him our suspicions. He says I couldn't have linked at a better time because the DNA results are back and with 99.9 percent accuracy the 3 children are indeed Wayne and Sophie-Anns. I asked him if he had informed them yet and he said no. He just got the results and thought it would be best if they had family around them when he gave the news to them. I tell everyone the news. Geneva said we have more questions than answers but it's a start and sounds like whoever is behind the disappearances are really doing experiments and this proves that theory. We agree. Vlad says we need to tell Hynes and Ryan everything before we leave for the hospital to be with Wayne and Sophie. Ashura, Nome and Thoran offer to stay and inform them on every detail. Geneva and Killian offer to stay behind and help them absorb all the information. As we get into the car,I say how I'm surprised by Geneva's decision to stay behind. She usually jumps at the opportunity to meet new people. Dad looks at me and says “You know her first priority is any clues that could lead us to Grayson and maybe Ryan has heard someone talking about his disappearance and Baby Drac is going to search her out for clues”. I know he is right about his assumption. She is a brilliant child and between her and Killian they will catch any odd looks, hitching in breath and sped up heart beats. Mom chimes and says. Hopefully we can have a less eventful family dinner soon. We laugh and nod our heads in agreement but we know deep down she loves the excitement.
