Chapter 28

  The Dungeon

  Dianna:

  It felt good to tell everyone about my suspicion about my birth givers. I'm relieved that we are going to try to bring Wayne back from the darkness that has taken him over.

  The dungeon hasn't been used since Wayne inherited the pack from my grandfather. This is the first prisoners it's held in 80 years. At one time we thought about converting into a media room or something. Now I'm glad Maurice told us not to do it.

  This is my first time down here in years and the first time seeing my uncle since he disappeared after handing the pack over to us. Our goal is to try to get him to remember the good in him. As we descend down the smell of rotting flesh hits me hard. I want to throw up but I keep going. Hoping no one has died. We reach Wayne's cell and I can't help but stare at the beast in front of me. It has features of my uncle but the darkness is taking him over. I walk up to his cell cautiously and ask him if he remembers me. I am his niece Dianna. He gave me this pack as a wedding present because he didn't trust his brother, my father, to take care of his people. He looked at me with vague recognition. I talked to him about my childhood and how he is the only one who didn't treat me like a pawn and showed me love and self respect. His eyes went wide. I continued to talk to him about how we manage the pack and how much we have missed him and want him to get to know his nephews and nieces. The darkness starts to fade and he's looking more man than beast. I just keep talking and talking. I don't hear anything going on around me. I talk and talk until I feel my voice going horse. I continue though, until my voice is barely a whisper. I hear someone say, It's gone behind me. It's actually trapped. Wayne looks at me as he is sobbing uncontrollably. Sven comes in from somewhere and casts protective spells on Wayne to keep the darkness away from him. I ask him if he wants to come with us, get clean and have dinner. He says he would too. He wants to tell us what happened to him. Wayne walks out of the cell but instead of leaving to go out he turns and stands right in front where Sue is being held. He asked, " What name did she give you?

  Jackson answers. Sue. She was hired to be a teacher at the school. Wayne laughs and says. Oh dear Sophie-Ann what tangled web you have wove for those greedy low lifes that promised you everything but gave you nothing. If you can only fight the darkness We can help end them as a family my once dear sweet mate.

  My mind is racing. Nome caught me before I tripped on my own two wobbly legged feet.

  Wayne is talking to his mate just like I did to him. It didn't take her as long for her to shack the darkness. It too was trapped somehow by Ashura. Sven casts protection spells on her as well and we all leave the dungeon after what should have been months was only 2 hours. Thoran smiled at me and said you are welcome. It took me a moment to understand what he meant. He manipulated time. He slowed the 2 hours down giving us time to try to wake the real Wayne. Wow! Okaaayyy!

  Let's check in the kiddos Jack said. Mom and Dad are coming to help Wayne and his mate. We need to see if Monk still has hair or if he's bald again. I slap Jack's arm playfully. Since Maurice has been back he has been growing his hair back. He is still a monk at heart but he always loved his hair and the girls did too. Hopefully the munchkins didn't tie him up and shave his head.

  When we got upstairs, Maurice was just finishing up with his class. He still had his hair, that was a good sign. He dismissed his students as Ashura walked over to them to take them to his classroom.

  The training area for all the masters is behind each house. A closed breezeway connected each house. If anyone was using a drone for a sky view it would look like a labyrinth. Confusing the spectators. All of it is soundproofed with an advanced camera and alarms that are not available to the public yet. Only the military has access to this system. Louis had a friend from college set it up for us. He is the inventor of it. I don't understand the technology of it, I just know it works.

  We ask some guards to watch Wayne and Sophie-Ann while they get cleaned up. We are not taking any chances with them. As we wait for them to explain what is happening. We discussed my theory about the mole working at the hospital. We had dismissed all the staff when we brought the twins home. Ann snuck Geneva in through the back. We didn't know what happened in the womb that caused the bright light or what caused them to swap places in the birth canal but we didn't want to take any chances. At their 2 year birthday party. Geneva was introduced as having the same birth date as Vlad and his cousin from Justina's side of the family. She looks so different than the rest of our children with her red hair and emerald eyes, that no one would question if they were actually twins. It's only logical that someone at the hospital was spying for my parents because the birth of the twins was hidden very well. Louis made sure that only him and Ann were allowed in the VIP wing. Louis handled the paperwork for their release but only mentioned one baby. I'm thinking of two people. The receptionist or that assistant that Ann had to grab the sheets and gels for the ultrasound. Lou deleted the twins file so it only showed I was pregnant and the baby's sex was unknown. I didn't know at that time that Maurice had instructed Lou to do so since we didn't inform our family until 3 months later at our Halloween party.

  That makes sense now that it has been explained. Maurice has the gift of what is called The Seer Of Time. It's like a fortune teller but it's different. It's like your soul leaves the body but the seer is able to see it move around them to show them things to solve issues that no one can find an answer to or shows tragic events so the seer can avoid them happening.

  Jackson:

  That explains several things about him.

  Thoran: Yes. It's like having an out of body experience.

  Nome: Thoran do you have that ability also?

  Thoran: Yes, but mine acts differently than his.
