Vegis was having a terrible morning. First was the nightmare, then it was the blood absorbing metal pillar breaking his room, and now, he had to talk to the cops. The cops arrived 10 minutes after Vegis called since there were 103 calls for the same thing. A pod dropped from the ceiling of the city and opened up when 2 cops walked out of it. They had visible metal on their shins, forearms, upper chest, and helmet. The helmet of the cop to the left opened up and folded into a thicker collar that covered their neck. This revealed the cop to be a woman with short hair and pseudo-eye on her forehead. The other cop popped open a holo screen for a transcript of the incoming interaction.
“Hi, I’m Vegis and I called you guys about the pillar.”(Vegis) “Hello Vegis, I’m officer Chi and this is my partner officer Razz.” (Chi) The unspeaking officer waved and then pulled out a small drone that started to fly around the building and scan it. “Okay Vegis, I want you to tell me what happened in order.”(Chi) “Okay. So it started with a strange ass nightmare that woke me. I jumped up and smacked my face real hard. I got up and tried to leave but I think the impact damaged the door. After that, it flew off and struck another building. That is all I got.”(Vegis)
“You are the 12th one to mention a nightmare waking them. Can you tell us what was in it so we can see if there is any correlation to these.” Said the Razz after the drone was done scanning. Vegis told them all he could remember and then they left. He then messaged his building’s manager about what happened and asked if she could get the landlord to arrange him a place to stay until next week. The manager messaged back saying that it would be unlikely and it would take an hour for them to respond due to this being so early in the morning. Vegis decided it was probably time to pack up his stuff to see what was still usable.
Most of his expensive stuff was intact with only his old poster caster broken. He packed his clothes first, then the electronics, and finally his food. By the time he was done, the manager sent back a negative to his request. Vegis sighed and decided to leave for a motel. He went to the edge of the city and saw the many smaller establishments that carved their existence into the wall. 75 meters above the floor, was the start of the artificial sky.
He walked for 3 hours before he saw a familiar place. It was the motel he first lived in when he first got to this colony world. He lived there for 2 years before an apartment was opened for him to live in. Vegis became a friend of one of the kids of one of the co-owners who worked there as a janitor and clerk. He kept in touch with them and occasionally came over for a favor or hanging out.

“Hi Marzy, how is the business doing?”(Vegis) “Oh, pretty slow this year. I see that you have a suitcase. Were you one of the people hit by the Nightmaric Blood Pillar?”(Marzy) “Yep, though I didn’t know the news already made a nickname for it.”(Vegis) “Yeah, still on the new right now, see” Marzy said as she pointed at the screen on the ceiling corner behind her. Vegis raised an eyebrow and said, “Neat. So how is your dad? I heard he had to undergo heavy maintenance due to a pretty bad accident a while back.” “He is doing fine now but last year was a mess since it is more metal than he would like and it fucked up with his ability to use spells.”(Marzy)
Vegis nodded at this and then opened his mouth saying, “Hey, do you have any open rooms?” to which Marzy nodded and tossed him a card with the label T31 which was a medium size room. Vegis said his thanks and walked to the room. He used it and walked in. He dropped his stuff into the closet and stared at the fishes swimming in the wall aquarium. He turned on the large screen in the wall across the bed and just watched some videos.
Vegis decided to talk to Marzy more after staring at the screen for an hour. He showered and changed into new clothes. He walked out of his room and to the front desk. Marzy was still there and just watching the corner screen. “Hey Marzy, I’m feeling bored, how long is your shift?”(Vegis) she looked at the clock on the desk and said, “2 more hours. I took the night shift.”(Marzy) “Okay. do ya want to hang out after you are done?”(Vegis) “Yeah. Do you want to do that in person or on the LSN?”(Marzy) “I’d say in the LSN. See you in AFS 8 (Arena Fighters of the Soul 8).”(Vegis) She nodded at this and Vegis walked back into his room and logged in.
For the next few days, Vegis just spent time in various games, talking to Marzy, walking around, and doing surface trips to release his stress at the Training Ground which allowed him to brush up on the more esoteric parts of spells. At the beginning of the next week, Vegis was talking to Marzy on a book series they were both reading when they got interrupted by Vegis receiving a notification from his new job.
It told him to go to the southern major elevator hub with all of his stuff since he was about to be shipped south for his first shift.
