C7 A Forest Walk and a Talk with an Old Friend

Vegis woke up in his bed and was thinking of what to do today. He brushed his teeth as he took a shower. He walked out of the bathroom in new clothes and decided to order some takeout. After some time, the food arrived and he ate. Vegis did some stretches and decided he would do some walking in The Way of Magic and some errands he forgot to do. He put on the VR helmet and logged in.

Vegis appeared in his virtual room and walked to the desk. He made the holo screen appear and hit the last application. This opened a hole to the personal game room and automatically selected The Way of Magic. Vegis walked through and was instantly logged into the game. He walked out of the shed and decided to walk into the forest. This was the largest forest to still exist in the game due to 4 reasons.

The first reason was that the strongest enemies spawn here. Beasts taller than buildings, bandits stronger than armies, plants luring others to death traps, and golems bursting from any inanimate piece of the scenery. Vegis grabbed some plants and started to chew them. They had a nice mint flavor and gave him the invisibility effect.

Overhead, a dragon passed over and swept down and picked up a bandit nearby. He walked for 10 minutes, passing many horrors that the forest contained and picking up many herbs. Vegis decided that he had picked up enough herbs and started to head to a small section he cultivated to grow good wood.

The second reason was that the forest was constantly growing vegetation and trying to expand. The grove Vegis had made grew trees taller and stronger than what was usually growing in the area. He took advantage of how the forest worked and purposely bred various trees together and made an incredible grove of trees with various properties.

He walked to a tree that glowed with a deep red color. Its leaves burned with power. Vegis cut it down and sprayed a special liquid on the stump and it started to have visible growth. He took some fruits off the other trees and the sap of others. After gathering everything that was ripe, he placed it all into his inventory. He then walked out and headed to his grotto.

The third reason was the constant mana storms that traverse the forest, filling people’s bodies till they explode or are ripped to shreds by its currents. Vegis hiked to a mountain and near the base, was a slight deformity. Vegis walked through it and into his grotto, a small cave decorated with home items. The ceiling had a crack that let some sun in and the walls have lightly glowing moss. In the very back of the grotto was a door.

Vegis pulled out a card and injected mana into it before swiping it in the gap of the door. This caused the door to open and lead to a secret that no one except a select few people knew of. The mountain was hollow and had no single peak. No one could see it though since the top of it was covered with a constant mana storm that killed any animal before they even got close to the peak.

Inside the open cavern was the final reason why the forest still existed. Vegis walked inside and took out 4 items. It was a plate, a ceremonial knife, a vial of juice, and a small green arm made up of multiple materials shaped in a way that made it seem that it was grown. Vegis placed these items around a small shrine in the middle of this space. He then knelt down and stabbed his hand with the knife and let his blood drip down the blade and onto each of the items, 4 drops for each item, and the bloody knife stabbed into the top of the shrine.

He bowed and said a prayer whilst forcing his mana into his mouth. This caused a reaction in the mana storm around the mountain top and caused it to all fly down to the shrine and times, congealing it all to a large glowing mass of light. Soon it condenses into the shape of a wolf, a lion, bear, goat, tiger, over and over again into another beast that exists naturally. Soon the everchanging mass gains the loose outline of a woman.

“Hello there follower,” said the figure. Vegis stood up and dusted his clothes. What stood before him was a god of this game. The shattered god of nature. But the thing controlling it was his closest friend he had. The one who was there when he needed it. “Hi Susan. I got a new job so I might not be online for a while after the start of next week.” Vegis said after a bit of time. Susan was the name of the AMI (Artificial Mana Intelligence) that controlled the gods in the game. Susan was actually a very popular AMI for god type characters and was used for lots of games due to how good her systems were. She was originally just used for goddesses and was only later allowed to do other characters, which caused the identity of the AMI to lean on the feminine side.

“That’s great Ve, though it saddens me that you won’t be able to talk to me for a bit.” boomed from the glowing outline. Vegis walked to the edge of the cavern and grabbed a table and some chairs to set up to have a conversation and have a nice snack. He pulled out some of the fruits and herbs he gathered and sat down. Susan pulled the chair back and sat down after him.

“So how has the new game been?”(Vegis) “It has been a dozzy since the setting they place restrict me to act like a kind house wife or a dominating husband. I don’t know why since this is a restaurant manager sim.”(Susan) “Yikes, that sounds like it's a pain in the ass.” Vegis said before biting into an apple like fruit. They continued to talk about the new games coming out, what happened in the last few days, and when the food Vegis provided ran out, Susan said goodbye and returned to the mountain top as a mana storm.

Vegis walked out of the cavern into his grotto. He saw the sun set and traveled to the shed once more and logged off. When Vegis sat up in his apartment, a notification popped up in his eye with the header "Comprehensive clone testing result, recommendations, and job location”.
