Chapter 14: A Welcome
Oblivion is where no logic lives, and the inventions that are undervalued or unfinished will get accomplished to fulfill the owners’ desires. That’s why there are so many things that only the top one percent could only create. However, an average person like Yusuke cannot understand anything, the scenery in front of him is like a massive revolutionary enormous city, like a bunch of complicated structures connecting to form a ‘standing point’, the main of the very first step of your development.
The world meant to surround the protagonist, everywhere they go would implant an impression on that specific destination. The people, the environment all got some sights to keep on by them. In general, everything revolves around that one person, and they are always being kept on, watched and connected. Yusuke is the person who would face against discriminations that will happen inside oblivion because,
It’s an imitation of society and hierarchy.
—
“It’s about time we should move on, Yusuke.”
“Woah! You know my name?”
"It's because I am inside you."
"So you're inside me and that's the reason why you can read my thoughts?"
"Exactly."
The figure talked to him but Yusuke felt a little bit weird. He knew that these are similar to the culture(anime) in his country, which is Japanese. However, he doesn’t know it would be this far that the world he’s living in is actually a fantasy world. Still, Yusuke moved to explore Oblivion because…what else could he do instead of standing still and asking around what was going on?
“Ah, I felt like this place seemed to have no actual kicks to me. I don’t know why I cannot feel anything surprising after I came here. It’s like my mind has nothing to do with it because it doesn’t want to or the neurological inside my brain…ah, I just don’t have any feelings, that’s it.”
Yusuke felt nonchalant because of this place. He doesn’t know why but he mostly felt the same as before, which is where he goes to, he would feel nonchalant. Only games and what made him happy other than these phenomena could possibly make him engaged.
After a moment of walking toward nothingness, he finally saw something in the distance. It was a pyramid but…
“Wait, isn’t it upside down?”
The pyramid was upside down but the stronghold, which is the top point of a pyramid, stuck stiffly to the ground, making it stable. Technically, it’s impossible. The only way to do this is having magic because the great mass of a true pyramid is unquestionably outweighed.
“How can one possibly be like this?”
“Antithesis.”
“Antithesis? You mean that it's the opposite?”
“You get the point, it’s what you imagined, too.”
“So, everything is antithesis?”
This book is hosted on another platform. Read the official version and support the author's work.
“Not really, it just popped up like that.”
“There must be things that are not like that?”
“Yeah, exactly.”
“...”
“Everything is totally based on your world. However, our system is unpredictable. Everything wouldn’t be as what you think they are, the way they meant to be.”
Yusuke thought of how strange this world could be because of the first encounter with the pyramid. He thought of how weird other things such as creatures and objects that are deprived from this world might be. Since Yusuke was about to move on, a random kid from nowhere hugged his left leg tightly.
“Wait…why is he so cold?”
The body’s temperature in this world is the opposite to the human body’s normal temperature in the real world, it’s cold. Yusuke thought there would be no humans in this world, he meant there wouldn’t be anyone ordinary. However, the kid hugging Yusuke has a completely normal human being look, it wore a white hoodie with a crystal in the middle. The kid has short black hair, and it’s a boy.
Yusuke’s throat was sore, so he found his next objection, which was finding the kid’s parents.
“Hey cute kid, are you lost?”
“...”
“No response, huh?”
“...”
“Do you want me to help you find your parents?”
“...”
“Fortunate enough that you have found a nice person like me to help you find your parents. Am I a little too arrogant? Nah, I was just fooling around, of course, I’ll help kids like you to find your parents. Alright, let’s go!”
Yusuke nodded his head, then he looked around the surroundings. He realized that he’s in the middle of nowhere, how can such a kid be randomly here? Is it really a coincidence?
Yusuke looked around again. Suddenly, the scene of a whole town popped up. Everyone was passing by the kid and Yusuke. With this all of a sudden, Yusuke found it interesting and thought everything was probably a little too far away from the standards.
So the voice was right.
“Hahaha, what is this? This is a little too random and ridiculous, I have stood in this village for hours. It’s like I'm hallucinating. Why is it appearing now?”
“As I told you, everything is unpredictable in this world because human’s dreams are very creative, they contain a lot of imaginations. This is one of the trillions of human dreams. This town is called Invisible.”
“Welp, that’s easy to call.”
“Forgot to mention, this world is mainly depending on the image, not on words.”
“So that just explained it, I guess.”
“I think you should explore more.”
“I think so. All right little one, can you please untuck my leg please? So we can start to find your mother.”
Nonetheless, the kid wasn’t listening, it kept hugging Yusuke’s left leg.
“Uhm…little one? Is there something wrong?”
Yusuke doesn’t understand why the child kept hugging him, but later, when he raised his head up looking around. The reason was different and ultimately strange.
“Look around you, Yusuke.”
Looking around, everyone implied an intense look on Yusuke who just happened to be here. Their glances attached to Yusuke, making him feel heavy like being pushed down by a giant object.
Then some people turned back and continued on their business, and some others aren’t turning back because they kept looking at Yusuke like it’s consciously necessary for them. Multiple bells rang at the same time, it made the environment become noisier. Somebody was walking towards Yusuke, talking about something, but then, they stopped talking when they were near to him.
Yusuke thought these things were normal. However, there was something that doesn’t know that he should take into account. When he tried to think of something, a sudden noise always came in to corrupt his contemplates. Everybody was talking as if they knew what he was thinking about.
“...What?”
“Is there something wrong?”
“Nothing.”
“Are you sure?”
“I’m sure! Nevermind what I just did to make you say that!”
“Then I won’t.”
“Jeez, now to the boy…”
The boy still stood there sticking to Yusuke’s left leg. This time, Yusuke tried to untuck his leg with force. Now, the boy was standing still, crying, then, he started to yell out his mom’s name.
“Guis! Guis!”
Yusuke thought that was a strange name, it probably was. But, Yusuke doesn’t mind too much about names because he thought everyone was given a name with a purpose. If it’s a meaningless name, that means they’re not expected to do anything significant. However, what if it’s a language that Yusuke doesn’t understand, then, Yusuke just skipped it because he thought of why thinking too much about it.
He forgot that he’s in the realm where everything’s made up of human’s imagination, so he continued to confront the boy.
“Guis…Guis.”
Then Yusuke had nothing to do but help the child because Yusuke was too kind, he thought it was a duty for…someone who’s a teenager. However, he took it as a responsibility for himself, no one forced him.
—
“Two kids are roaming in my holy place. They are the Wanderers.”
Wanderers are metaphors to point people that aren’t born in this realm. The person who talked was the leader of Oblivion.
He planned something further…only he knew what he would do. But he seemed serious about it.
