011 YOU CAN’T ERASE EXISTENCE

“No reason.” Yuji brushed my questions.

My eyes lingered on him. Then I let out a breath. “Is Shin’s dad’s arson incident related to the one you sent me?” I asked.

“They are. Wanna know how?” Yuji got all excited.

“I suppose…” I didn’t want to give in but couldn’t help being a little curious.

Yuji looked like he just got a new flashy toy.

“What do you think the roles of The Big Three are here?” He turned towards me. Asking this question out of blue.

I’ve pondered about this a few times before.

“They have money…” I said, my eyes looking forward. “They protect the economy by providing jobs. I hear they are big investors in the city maintaining Akasia’s status.” I answered something everyone knows. “That makes it easy to control this city…” I said. Wandering my truthful thoughts. Having money is having power. It's quite simple. “That’s pretty much it.” I was done expressing my thoughts on the matter.

  Yuji nodded, smiling.

“Is that all?” He asked me a question.

I looked over. “Should there be more to it?” I shrugged. My interest slowly faded out.

“The Big Three founded this city many decades ago.” He said something I did not know.

“History books didn’t mention that.” I said. Raising an eyebrow.

“Of course not. Those burned down in a fire. Three days after Ichigo’s mansion burned down. Then the whole city was set ablaze. It took days to get all the fires out. A lot of information was lost back then.” Yuji told me. “The library, this university, the bank and council offices…all the places with important information.” Yuji said.

I finally turned back to pay full attention.

Those are rather conspicuous places, like they were targeted specifically.

“Did the culprit try to erase something?” I asked slightly curious.

Yuji, seeing my expression, laughed knowingly.

“I tried to dig it up. Impossible.” He shrugged his shoulders.

  “Impossible for you?” I chuckled.

“It’s a shame really! I suspect that they tried to erase an important existence of someone.” He pondered.

“You can’t erase an existence…” I answered. Shaking my head.

“Don’t be sure about that. Imagine being someone who can go anywhere. Use any name. Live a life and have no rules. People like that exist.” He shifted his eyes telling me this information.

  I stood there in thought.

“I guess, I haven’t thought about it like that.”

“Do you know who that someone is?” I asked Yuji.

  He smiled brightly.

Unlawfully taken from Royal Road, this story should be reported if seen on Amazon.

Then I noticed he had a yellow envelope behind him with a bright crimson red seal on it.

“It’s in there!” I pointed at the envelope.

“You thought it was impossible for me?” Yuji snorted.

“Of course not.” My eyes trailed over the room. His room was very plain. No pictures or anything personal lying around. I did notice the closet slightly open with uniform blazer sticking out.

“I suppose this information isn’t for free.” I hung my head, my eyes back at Yuji.

“Nothing is for free…my dear Rory…” Yuji flicked his blonde hair and got up from his seat he comfortably sat on. “...you just have to do one…teeny tiny thing!” His pale blue eyes brightened.

“Get me a certain keychain belonging to your boyfriend.”

I stared at him. “A keychain?”

“There’s this key on it.” Yuji pulled out a phone and showed me a picture of a keychain inside my boyfriend’s hands.

Yuji had a picture of Shin inside his phone…

“You’re a creep!” I said. Looking at the picture.

“Is it a deal?” He ignored me calling out to him and pestered me instead.

“You got me interested…but I won’t betray my boyfriend for you.” I didn’t want to accept his deal. He can’t be a reason to put my relationship with Shin in jeopardy for a stupid stunt like this. I did not agree with this.

“I guess you are not what I thought you were…” Yuji was disappointed in me.

I eyed him with a warning look.

“Don’t meddle with Shin and me!” I said.

“It’s just a keychain.” He shrugged like it’s the most normal thing to ask. “Easy to lose. You don’t even have to mention it to him. Just exchange it with something similar.” Yuji did not care about my warning at all.

“Why do you need it?” I asked.

“It’s just a keychain…take it as a dare! I am not asking you to break up with him…yet.” Yuji mischievously said brushing it off my questions to him.

I let out a long sigh.

“I will think about it.” I couldn’t believe I was considering this.

Yuji’s face brightened hearing my answer.

“Pleasure doing business with you Rory Aisaka!” Yuji looked over. His eyes were so bright with happiness. “I’m truly happy!” He let out a soft sigh.

I only stared at him emotionless.

“I am leaving.” Eying that envelope, I said.

Yuji only waved at me happily. Finally letting me go.

“See you again in the class!!!” He waved me off as I left.

  What a weird guy.

Finally managing to escape that guy's clutches. I left to go back to my dormitory room.

I am only considering his deal for now but can still change my mind. I was not even sure if I wanted to read that envelope. I just wanted to get out of his room.

I was living in the second dorm building, so when I left Yuji's room I got downstairs. Walked outside towards the building, it was right next to it, few metres away. When I entered it, my legs left for the elevator and fingers pressed the floor six. Doors closed before anyone else stepped inside. Once the ride was complete. I walked through a corridor and reached doors with the numbers six zero and seven. My eyes scanned the place. Everything in the room was just as I left it. Some scattered books on the table. My empty morning coffee mug in the sink, closet slightly open, bathroom towel on the bathroom doors.

I dropped my bag on the edge of the table where I study.

I’ve got to figure out what to do!

I admit. Breaking my project into pieces was something I did on impulse. Mr. Karin only tried to help me by pointing out that a camera is enough. Of course! It’s enough if I want to pass but do I want to simply pass? Everything should be perfect. That’s it! The math simply needs to work out perfectly.

My hand reached into my bag and walked over to sit down on the sofa chair in the corner of the room. Pulled out an electronic reading pad. A project my development class partner created. Athena Keth. Herself looking so perfectly aloof and girly and capable of a research project about emotional intelligence in such detail. I’m guessing that’s the whole point of her being or simply, it’s a pretense. I am just speculating of course. How others live isn’t my business.

  I did know something though.

The IQ test does not work to measure how intelligent someone is. I saw that firsthand. Been tested on them on multiple occasions in the past. My mentor once devised his own method of test but one was a little inaccurate. I remember ever slightly that there was someone else who devised it perfectly. Who was it?

  I couldn’t recall…
