Conquest 61 – The Church of Purity’s Decision

The look on the priestess’ face was priceless! I never knew how satisfying it was to see a celebrity level beauty such as her get all red in the face. Then again, I never was into all that nonsense. It was even better to see that old man bishop failing to calm her down. But what exactly are they going to do? I doubt they would look good if they were to suddenly attack me as the ruler that the human citizens accepted me.

So now would be the question of what their next course of action is. I motioned Mordred on standby to wait to see what they would do.

“We can’t just let these monsters do what they want!” The priestess argued. She then pointed at me wildly. “Especially with that damnable lizard being put in charge! It’s going to cause chaos to these lands!”

I couldn’t help but heartily laughed which only angered her further. I didn’t know she could get any angrier! ~ “Veehahahahaha, well I thank you for the compliment!”

The bishop thankfully was a lot more reasonable. “Regardless how you feel the people here have already accepted its authority.”

  “But-” Katherine tried to argue.

The bishop interrupted her. “None of that. If you are worried about what they will do, then I will make a suggestion. If the ruler here would permit it of course.”

I tilted my head, curious about what he was proposing as I waited for him to continue. “You Katherine would stay here and monitor the kobold.”

She gaped her mouth wide open in shock. “Wh-what?!”

“You heard me. I’m sure we would all feel relieved if you were to keep an eye on them and make sure they won’t cause trouble for us.”

Oh…oh…this is such a crazy idea! I love it!

“Veehahahahaha that’s perfect! I’ll allow it! I’ll make sure to let my subordinates know about our guest! ~”

Katherine of course was against the idea. She even stomped repeatedly on the ground in defiance. “Now hold it right here! I can’t agree to this!”

Before the bishop could respond I decided to answer instead. Speaking with a bit of mockery in my tone. “And what’s the problem here? This would work out on your favor, allowing you direct watch for any ‘heinous’ actions we may involve ourselves with. If you do happen to see any of that you could always stop me before it’s too late. ~”

Hah, as if I would let her do such a thing. But it sure would be amusing to see her try. ~

That did seem to calm her down a bit, though only enough to leave her to simply glare at me. “…. you have a point as much as I hate to agree with a kobold. Fine then, I take you up on your offer.” She then motioned two fingers, making a V sign, towards her eyes before pointing it back at me. “But I’m watching you.”

I formed a tiny smile at the edge of my lips, this is going to be a lot of fun. ~

The old bishop was relieved to see the tension from Katherine die down. “Good now that everything is settled, we will make preparations for our priestess stay here.”

“Don’t worry too much about that, I’ll have things set up someplace for her to live in. I was actually considering a new living space around the center of my empire anyway. I could even set her up with her own room so she could watch over me better. ~” I stated while keeping a smug smile.

“A-are you sure, wouldn’t that take too much time and resources?” The bishop countered.

I loosely waved my claw back, not caring how unprofessional it looked. I lead them to an open space near the town. The religious group looked puzzled about why I was doing so, especially after I called over a few orcs that were available with large amounts of [Wood].

This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.

“Hmm…. This should do. It’d probably take a while so for now this place should do until I can have the proper living space set up.”

The priestess seemed offended by that. “Do you expect me to live in the dirt or something? Wouldn’t it be better for me to stay in an inn or something?”

She made a good point, and it would be a lot easier that way. But I’m not a man, or a lizard in my case, who would go for the boring easy way. Nah, I’d rather show off what I could do and the idea of the look on their faces is too much to pass up. ~

Without speaking a word, I activated [Material Forge] using the [Wood] I had my orcs gather over and began to reforge them. Stripping the outer layers and instructing them to stack them while I remade and fused them together to make the walls and roof similarly like my own home base with a door and everything with a bit of the [Iron] I had stored, to make the knob and hinges. It was makeshift and quick notice, but it should be enough to accommodate my ‘Guest’ for the time being.

And just as I expected the religious group was taken back, surprised over my display of power. I couldn’t keep my smug smile down. “I’ll need a bit more time to make the necessary furniture, but this should suffice for now right priestess?”

When I called her, she managed to straighten herself. She fixed her outfit and slightly coughed to herself feeling a bit embarrassed, wanting to regain some of her grace. Ah, what a riot. ~ “Y-yes that will suffice. Thank you….”

I could practically hear the strain in her voice. It must be taking a lot for her to thank a ‘brutish creature’ like me, but I guess she has to keep up appearances for the church’s sake. Meanwhile, my citizens were watching the events unfold. At least the ones that followed us out of curiosity.

The bishop was next to recompose himself. “G-glad to see everything is settled. We’ll come by later to deliver her things.” He walked up to Katherine and whispered something close to her ear, quiet enough that I couldn’t pick up on what they were whispering about before speaking normally again. “Do be in your best behavior Katherine.”

Katherine nodded in understanding while she went inside to inspect her new living space. I’ll have to get started on her furniture as soon as possible before she throws another fit. Not like I wouldn’t enjoy the shenanigans, but I doubt my followers would share in the sentiment so I should avoid pushing things too far. Or at the very least keep it to when there are fewer prying eyes. ~

Before I could get started, Mordred wanted to have a quick word with me. “Are you sure this is a good idea boss? What if she gets in the way of your conquest?”

I shrugged, not really too concerned about his worry. “Not a problem, I think I can handle her when the time is right. Besides, this is a lot better set up for me with dealing with those zealots.”

The minotaur cocked his head. “What do you mean by that boss?”

“Simple, if I hadn’t done anything. They probably would have sent people to spy on me anyway or cause some unnecessary troubles for me.”

“But I’m sure you could handle them easily boss!” Mordred refuted. Ah, I’m touched that he has that much confidence over my might. ~

“You’re right but still. Right now, I’m focused on stabilizing my empire and I’d rather deal with as little interruptions as possible. I can already imagine all the ways that woman will complain about how I do things left and right but at least it would just be her for the time being.”

“You do have a point boss…. Still, I don’t like her whining.” Mordred shook his head, still remembering her nagging from earlier.

“Veehahahahaha, I know what you mean. That’s why it’s better to keep her close by.”

“You seem like you’ve dealt with this kind of problem before boss.” Mordred pointed out.

It’s true, back in my old world I dealt with all kinds of annoyances, mundane they may be. But angry women were one of the worse with me having little ways in dealing with them. At least now in this world I have a lot more sway and power to handle them and I’ll admit I’m probably going to enjoy teasing this woman as a bit of way to vent out from those back then.

“Anyway, can you inform my other henchmen about our new guest with the message feature before getting back to work? I need to get started on her furniture before she starts complaining again.”

Mordred nodded as he began the motions for messaging the others, leaving to fulfill his other duties.

Later while I was busy making her bed, Katherine came out of her new living space with a look of annoyance.

“Is something wrong with your living arrangements priestess?” I asked, with only a mild tone of concern.

I could practically hear her grumble to herself before answering. “…. No, everything is okay considering how quickly you had everything set up just for me…. I thank you….”

Ha, it’s easy to tell how much she’s struggling to make herself thank a monster like me. Before I could enjoy this moment, she continued the conversation with a question.

“In the heat of the moment, we had never gotten to inquire on the motives for a monster such as yourself to want to acquire a town and kingdom under your rule. What is your goal? Tell me now.”

…more a demand than a question really. Eh, no harm in telling her. Not like she could stop me anyway. ~

“Have I never told you. Well, it’s quite simple really priestess.” I stood up as high as I could to be as close to eye level to the human priestess, loving to see her reaction to my answer. “I want to conquer this entire world, that’s all. Veehahahahaha!~”

Ah, the look in her face is priceless! Shocked and confused but also angry. “W-what?!”
