Conquered 60 – Welcome to My Empire!

It was just a regular day, the development over my empire was starting to reach the stages of building its foundation. It wouldn’t be long until we would be able to have a more stable living. Granted, I still have some kinks to work out here and there but we’re still progressing well.

Which is why after I had finished making the last of the foundations needed for the outside walls I was surprised to get a call from Mordred. I braced my eardrums for the minotaur’s ‘inside’ voice.

  “What is it Mordred?”

“BOSS! YOU GOT TO COME HERE QUICKLY!” His voice came like a stereo in max volume!

I nearly tripped over from his loud thoughts! I sent my thoughts almost as loud as his in annoyance! “Mordred! Quiter thoughts! Now what’s going on?”

“Ah right sorry boss…You need to get back to Greyston now. There’s a weird group at the gates here demanding they see the ‘horrific monster’ in charge here. His words, not mine. I could get rid of them for y-”

I immediately stopped him right there. The last thing we need right now is unnecessary violence. “No, it’s fine. Just keep an eye on them for now. Worst case scenario let the human minions handle it until I get there.”

I was given a reply almost immediately from the minotaur as always from him. “Understood boss, but please hurry. I don’t know how long I can take hearing this nonsense!”

…Yeah, I should really hurry. I doubt Mordred could keep his temper down for long even if I gave him a direct order. Considering how much in a rush I was in I decided to use my old trick to use [Material Forge] and launched myself at the gate! I made sure I was sent high up of course to avoid slamming into someone. As well as letting me get a brief glimpse of what was happening.

From what I can tell, there was a group of humans numbered over 10 at the entrance all dressed in white vestments I recognize as something that priests would wear back in my old world though I noticed there were gold linings across the edges of the fabric which shined a bit bright from the sunlight. They also wore blue clothes over their shoulders and a white veil concealing their faces, and they all had their head lowered except for two individuals.

Neither of them had a veil over their faces which made it easy to tell them apart across the rest of the group. Not only that but they wore fancier looking clothing. They must have a higher rank based off that. One was an older looking man from what I can guess around their 60s or maybe their 70s considering he had brown hair with the tips of it fading into white. He wore a rather long folded cap over his head kind of like a pope which I had to guess was his ranking or something similar. He had his arms folded in his sleeves behind his back while looking around the area as if waiting to see what would happen.

The other individual looked like a young woman around her 20s with long silver hair wearing a smaller square cap and holding in one hand a golden staff adorned with a few small blue jewels. She had a rather beautiful if a bit unnatural appearance that made it hard for me to believe was real. If she was in my last world she could have easily pass as a celebrity that gathered lots of crazed fans. Not that I would be interested in that kind of stuff in the first place. I never was taken by the physical appearance of anyone and that applied to this world as well. But at the very least I could understand the effect her appearance would have on others. If it wasn’t for the fact that her ears were round like any other human, I would have assumed she was like a familiar silver-haired elf from a famous story from my old world.

Looking closer I saw that the old man was having a heated argument with Mordred, that was not good. I could see that Mordred was already getting ready to reach out for his weapon, the group seemed to be preparing something themselves with the young woman brandishing her golden staff!

I needed to get down there fast!

Using my [Material Forge] I increased the mass of the air around me and forced it to send me flying down. Everyone immediately saw me coming down like a comet. They stopped what they were doing and spread out to give me some space to land. Before I crashed into the solid dirt below Mordred managed to catch me as he placed me on his shoulder as he always does.

The pope like old man was shocked over my presence. “W-what is the meaning of this!?”

Mordred, barely keeping himself to a simple growl, answered his question. “You wanted to see the one in charge, didn’t you? We’ll here he is.”

This story is posted elsewhere by the author. Help them out by reading the authentic version.

He then pointed his large thumb back as he properly presented me. “This here is the boss, the Tiny Tyrant Vladimir!!”

I nearly lost my balance and off his shoulder! He said it with such conviction, as if it was a moniker to be feared… I swear I can hear some of my minions giggling to themselves right now…. I quickly recomposed myself while I let these group of intruders say their piece.

The old man was taken aback, “Th-that is ridicules! I had heard rumors of a horrific monster dominating my fellow men but to think it was but a mere kobold?!”

I instinctively readied myself to calm Mordred down, but I was surprised to see he was keeping his anger in check so far. Though he did bare his teeth, his face contorted into a snarl. “I would watch what you say human. If it wasn’t for the boss wishing to avoid unnecessary violence I wouldn’t just stand here.”

The old man was unfazed and in fact sneered. “Hah, I never thought I’d see such a brutish monster like a minotaur show restraint. Guess that little kobold must show some potential if it can leash a monster like you.”

I limply waved my claw at him, wanting to end this annoying exchange as soon as I could. “Can we get back in track? What business do you have here?”

That seemed to offend him. “Ugh, I never! We came here because we were concern with the rumors of my fellow man being under the tyrannical rule of filthy monsters!”

“If I may interject.” A voice came from the back of the crowd that was watching everything unfold. It was Greyston’s mayor.

“Ah finally, a proper man in charge here. My name is Caleb, a bishop of the church of the goddess of Purity Astrea. Now can you please explain why there are monsters roaming around here so freely?!”

The mayor shook his head, knowing how the bishop would react to his answer. “You see…. because of…’circumstances’ we have offered our town to lord Vladimir in order to acquire him and his other monster followers’ protection from the Mivtic kingdom.”

The bishop was bewildered, unable to respond. That left the silver haired woman to speak up for him. She walked forwards, her grip on her golden staff tightening as she gave an expression of remorse. “I see… my condolences… to have suffered under a barbaric monster in order to survive.”

She suddenly brandished her staff and pointed it at me! Her remorseful face transformed into one of resolve. Her seemingly pure looking eyes gave a penetrating glare that could pierce any foe. “Do not fret, I priestess Katherine of the beautiful goddess of Purity Astrea shall undue this injustice and purge the monster out here!”

The blue jewels in her staff started to glow as the light started to intensify. My kobold instincts kicked in, warning me of the immediate danger coming off of the supposed innocent priestess. I felt compelled to unsheathe my sword, expecting a possible fight with the religious zealots. And it seemed Mordred was thinking the same thing with his grip on his axe, the only thing keeping him from starting the first move being watching for my approval.

The mayor quickly tried to de-escalate the situation. “Wait wait! Everything is fine! We are…. Actually, fine with having lord Vladimir in charge.”

“W-what?! That’s utter nonsense! Why would any human willingly let a filthy scaled creature like it be in charge!?”

The bishop managed to gather himself, starting to understand the situation better and decided to act on it. He moved towards the silvered haired woman and soothing her down. “Now now, I’m sure they have their reasons. Please, enlighten us. What exactly is it that compels you to take this kobold’s side?”

It was then one of the citizens started to speak up, followed by more of them as they started to defend me.

“Monster or not, lord Vladimir kept his promise to protect us from the Mivtic kingdom!”

“That’s right! Not only that but he’s been hard at work helping with construction!”

“Granted, I’m still wrapping my head around the idea of living amongst the other monsters. But so far, they haven’t tried anything to us so far so I think we should give them a chance.”

“Plus, they have the support from our town’s strongest adventurer! If he trusts him then I will!”

Well, I’m glad to see that I’m starting to gather their support. I would normally revel in the praises I was gathering.

  And I did!

I couldn’t help but puff my chest and put my claws on my shoulders with my head pointed up in the sky. “Veehahahahaha, did you hear that?! They want me to lead them so I don’t think you all can object to that! ~”

The religious group looked around confused, the silvered haired woman Katherine herself glared at me with such intensity. The bishop though surprisingly looked calm; he seemed like he was willing to accept their answer.

“I see… what a shame. If only we came here sooner…. What’s done is done. And what of the Mivtic Kingdom? We have also come to discuss their ultimate fate.”

I instinctively rubbed below my scaled red nose, proud of my accomplishment. “Of course I have conquered them as well. Just like the townsfolk here they have all submitted to my rule as well. ~”

The priestess Katherine refused to hear it, angrily tapping her staff on the ground. Geez, what an annoying woman. “No this is wrong! Why are we letting this monster rule over other humans?!”

“Now calm down Katherine. We must cause a bigger scene than we already have.”

The look of the woman acting like a brat countered her natural beauty, probably more so with her position as a priestess. I can easily imagine how hard it must be for her to get a date. But I just couldn’t help but want to tease her some more. ~

“Yes, do please calm down. As you can see every citizen both here and the old Mivtic Kingdom has accepted my rule. ~”

With a dramatic turn of my body, I placed my arm over my chest and lightly bowed. Trying to give off more than necessary gentlemen quality only cause I can tell it would piss her off more. ~

“Let me properly greet you. Ruler Vladimir welcomes you to his Dominia Empire. ~”
