Free rant episode. Moderately important for story.

Tldr - I broke myself for a bit and am calmer now. Sometimes warhammer lore is far sparse and less specific then I'd prefer and it gives me migraines. Sometimes terms will be used interchangeably, or be mistaken. Notify me for questions in comments. Have a wonderfull day.

Lady's, gentlemen, and those heinous Non Euclidean beings in-between from the halo stars, welcome, to GigglesTheClown's warhammer ship rant.

First on the agenda is the warhammer special: There isn't enough information on so many fucking things. This includes my primary gripe. Some ships just have nothing at all, some have generalized information, and even in the best case scenario, the information that I can gather is very limiting.

Example being: where exactly are the guns on a cruiser. For most, it generalizes it to "I have broadside weapons with minimal prow weapons." Or some such. Sometimes it doesn't even give me locations for said guns. (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻

There is also the size difference between gun classes. I gave up on that tbh, and made a general system of escort to battleship grade with short range to long range as the other data points.

Now, there are types of weapons on imperial ships. Kinetic, energy, and plasma, and torpedoes/missles, with some very uncommon exceptions.

Now Giggles, I hear you ask, what does that matter? Gun go boom boom. And to that I say WRO- Ahem. Yes, you are right, but in what way do they go boom?

If you come across this story on Amazon, it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

Now, we start with the mainstay of the imperial navy. The macrocannon. To put it shortly, think of a Iowa class battleship gun on meth, speed, and fent. Then you start to get the idea.

Energy weapons tend towards the lance. What is a lance? Typically, it is a long range high intensity beam of energy that lances out to attack enemy ships. While some lances are short ranged, the vast majority are stand off weapons.

Now, for plasma. These weapon types have been used for millenia by the imperium but are rarer and have far less info then lances and macrocannons. So, take this with a tablespoon of salt. Plasmagun but big. That's about it for imperial plasma batteries.

For torpedoes, it is exactly what you would expect. Exept bigger. Like, I've heard 100 meters plus big. They have an inbuilt guidance system where within a few thousand km, it will home in on targets. Missles have little info in the realm of void warfare, but I expect them to be similar, just with less tracking and being smaller.

Now for the ever ambiguous term: weapons battery. What is a weapons battery? WELL, SINCE YOU ASKED, it can be just about fuckin any imperial weapon, bar none. Plasma, lance, macro cannon, missles, even fission beamers. The only weapons that aren't 'weapons batteries' are torpedoes (as they require dedicated tubes), and flak guns (exactly what you would expect. AA and missle/torpedo interdiction).

It is a general catch all term that can mean anything. This is exacerbated when a ships description says "it has weapons batteries." Full stop, don't pass go. Just... that. It is so, so very annoying.

This slows me down, as I have to either lessen lore accuracy, or I just have to ignore such things and hope the story doesn't get worse due to the lacking accuracy.

Fun fact, finding the guns on capital grade ships is like playing where's Waldo sometimes, but I digress.

There tend to not be gun counts on ship descriptions. What I mean is, "this ship had 5 macro guns, 5 lances" so on and so on. They tend to say they have a type, sometimes they give you an area they are located, and then tell you to Kickstart a landmine.

But, I have found out that imperial ships do sometimes have speed indicated in their descriptions. Escorts go from about 5.5 gravs to 8ish gravs. Cruisers go from 5.5's to 2.4's. Battleships, 2.4 and less. This is due to mass btw.BTW.

There are other issues, like the nonexistent armor thickness description. But...

  Ok, I've ranted enough.
