Chapter 27

The book didn’t give me an in-depth understanding of magic after finishing the first few chapters. It was called the Basic Magic Theory book for a reason. However, it gave me an idea. I activated Magic Sight and then called up my Heaven’s Healing spell. Heaven’s Healing spell is a complex construct. I don’t understand how it works, but I am awed by its beauty. I can see that it has three major sections and a few minor ones. I let Heaven’s Heal go and pulled up Cure All. It was even more complex with four major sections and even more minor ones. However, one of the major sections was identical to a Heaven’s Heal construct section. I was glad to discover that the same sections could be used in different spells. I thought it might be given my limited understanding, but validation is a good thing. I released Cure All and brought up Mana Dart. The Mana Dart construct was very different than the Heaven’s Heal and Cure All constructs. It appeared to only have one major section, but the section had small conduits (like wires) running throughout the section. It was impossible to follow an individual conduit as they crossed and recrossed each other almost constantly and all the same color. If they were color coded, like wires on Earth, then it might have been possible, but no, I couldn’t be so lucky.

Cleanse was the simplest construction. It had two small sections. I intuitively knew that one was for myself, and the other was for external objects. As I concentrated on the one for external objects, it transformed into a two-dimensional drawing, much like an electronic schematic. This made it much easier to decipher. After finishing deciphering, I did the same with the other section.

Two notifications flashed, and I opened them:

[Congratulations you have achieved the Title Magic Researcher. Magic Researcher allows for the research, deconstruction, modification, and creation of magic spells, runes, and curses. Intuitive understanding of magical constructions, wards, and enchantments chances greatly increased. Ability to nullify active spells and wards awarded.]

[Congratulations you have gained Nullification skill level 1]

I called up the ‘help’ file on Spell Nullification:

[Nullification nullifies targeted active spells and wards. Nullification chance = (Nullification Spell level/2) * (Intelligence + Wisdom + Luck) / Level of spell being nullified. Chance can never exceed 90%.

Additional functionality may be gained at higher levels.]

Level of spell should be the base level of the spell, rather than my skill level in the spell. Fireball is a level 2 spell, but my magic skill level is 4, so my chance would be (1/2) * (15 + 15 + 15) / (2) or 11.25%. Complicated formula resulting in a very low percentage at my current skill level. Not something I should depend upon in a fight, but it had potential.

I put aside my thoughts on Nullification, and pulled up the Heaven’s Heal spell once again, hoping Magic Researcher title would help. And, oh wow, did it ever. I now knew that one of the smaller sections was responsible for closing wounds. It didn’t restore points, but it did stop bleeding and closed the wound. As I concentrated on it, it became a schematic, which allowed me to get an in-depth understanding. I released the Heaven’s Heal spell and tried calling up just the schematic for closing wounds. I was successful and received a notification:

Stolen content alert: this content belongs on Royal Road. Report any occurrences.

[Congratulations you have created a new spell: Close Wound a level 1 spell]

[Congratulations, you have learned Closed Wounds level 1]

[Close Wounds acts much like a bandage to stop bleeding but also repairs the wound (skill and muscles). It does not restore life points or heal bones. Organs will be repaired to stop bleeding but may require advanced Healing to restore complete functionality.]

This is amazing. I just created my first spell. Okay, maybe not created, but learned intentionally. Sub sections can be stand alone. At least some of them.

I looked up out my window and saw the light streaming through. Damn, have I been up all night? It only seemed a couple of hours. It appears that I got lost in my magic research. I might have been up all night long, but it was so worth it. I had a new Title and a new spell.

I started to wonder if I could teach someone the Close Wounds spell. I have the schematic, which was very simple, so it shouldn’t be too hard. Maybe someone from the Adventurer Guild. If I can teach another magic user the spell, then it would go a long way in saving adventurer’s lives. There were plenty of magic users in the Adventurer Guild, I am sure someone can do it. I got out a piece of paper and drew the schematic for Close Wounds. I will head to the Adventurer guild after a quick nap.

As I walked up the stairs to the second level, Fabia came to walk beside me. “I want to remind you that you have a healing appointment this afternoon, just after lunch. It is the Countess Majora of House Templar.” The House Templar was a powerful house in Renovolt and Decharte. It was a militant house and was responsible for killing monsters and bandits. The Earl depended on them heavily. They had large presences in all the major cities, including the Kingdom’s capital. “The countess’ messenger would not tell me the specifics of what needed to be healed but was adamant to meet as soon as possible. So much so, that they are willing to come to Covern House.”

“Make sure they come to Covern House itself, not the clinic. I don’t want any rumors going around.” Then I sighed. My nap was going to be shorter than I wanted. I turned around and went to find Gabriel. I found him in the kitchen talking with Chef.

“Chef, can you make me a quick snack. Something to tide me over until lunch.”

“Certainly, Young Master.” Chef replied. Now everyone is calling me Young Master. Damn you Fabia.

“And Gabriel. I need to take a short rest before Countess Majora of House Templar comes to Covern House.” I said, and Gabriel perked up as soon as I said her name. “I also need you to wake me 1 hour before lunch.” At this point Chef handed me an egg and sausage sandwich. Chef was amazing.

“Of course, Young Master.” Gabriel replied.

I ate my egg and sausage sandwich as I made my way upstairs to my room. After finishing my sandwich, I lay down on my bed and instantly went to sleep.
