Rot king snake part 1

They equipped themselves and went on carefully.

The further they went; the more they felt a killing intend; as encountering another door they went in, holding they’re knifes as tight, sweating out of fear.

Veylan went in first, it seems less threatening than he thought.

  Bump!

Bedre pushed Riven into the new room. “Hey, what the fuck you’re doing?” But before Riven even could finish his sentence the door closed. “DAMN IT! This motherfucker really back stabbed us!” Even though Riven′s temperament was exploding again Veylan stayed calm, seeing through Badre′s plan. “Riven calm down now! We are going to have much different problems now.” Badre′s plan was simple; he waits until they die and then fights whatever is in there all by himself, hoping that the two weakened it.

In truth Veylan gained nothing by knowing this.

The room was very dark, normal humans couldn’t see a thing without special abilities or items. But Riven was a member of the Merrik clan; everyone with true Merrik blood would have a special pair of eyes. The more someone is genetically a Merrik, the stronger the eyes’ ability would be, Riven is nearly a one hundred percent Merrik.

The Merrik eye’s ability is very situational, seeing in the dark.

Those with thicker Merrik blood would be able to see almost perfectly in the dark.

Riven activated his ability. His eyes turned white and bright as the sun, Veylan was surprised that Riven was Merrik; based of his father tellings the average Merrik would’ve already killed, manipulated or used him other ways.

Even though Riven almost strained his eyes to their limit he had difficulties seeing something, he looked around, nothings there…he looked at the ceiling. He froze. “V-Veylan…the…the rot king snake…it’s at the ceiling…gulp…” Even Veylan got goosebumps, Riven are you really sure? I mean really, really?” Riven used the full power of his eyes, only to see the rot snake king very clear above him.

“S-Should we run away; or what should we do now?” Riven asked but Veylan knew that running away isn’t possible but also probably makes the snake just even more malicious.

Riven heard a little rat in a corner and looked at it instinctively…

  BAM!

Right as Riven looked away just for a second, the snake fell down from the ceiling. Both barely dodged it, but they had different problems now; maybe they had knifed that are specialized against rotting creatures and healing potions for rotting but in comparison they had much more disadvantages than advantages.

Riven still activated his Merrik eyes but Veylan literally was blind the whole time. The snake knew exactly that Riven could see it; it stared at Riven, spreading its malicious killing intent towards the two. Veylan started thinking with immense pressure on him.

In only a few seconds the whole room was filled from the top to the bottom with its aura. Then it began.

The rot snake king began to attack. With full force its head tried to eat them with one bite; but for their luck they managed to dodge it, but both are separated from each other because of its big body. Riven saw an opportunity and took it, he ran towards it from the side and stabbed it multiple times.

Unfortunately, a little dagger hasn’t a big effect on such a big think that is even a king.

While Riven fights against its Veylan still thinks for a plan, not being able to see a thing makes things even worse. Being lost in thoughts just made him think about something his father told him regularly. “In this world everything has a weak point!”

In this fight teamwork is the most important thing, Riven must be the eyes for two. “Riven! Do you see anything weird in its attacks? Does it try to expose certain body parts less than others? Or does it avoid attacking with certain body parts?” Riven looks around while still trying not to get hit. “It tries to not get hit at its end! At the end of it is even a little part of armor!”

This information changes much. “You distract it and I go to its and, okay?!” There is still a problem. Maybe the end of its body is its weak point but how could he get through the armor?

Veylan tried to sneak up to it, but about two meters/six feet and seven feet before he would reach it the turtle suddenly turned around and started to attack Veylan. “How is this possible? Riven was distracting it, he was distracting it very well?” This was what Veylan thought; he only saw the snake’s head coming nearer and nearer each moment.

Suddenly Riven stood in front of Veylan. “Riven are you okay? What happened?” Veylan asked, panicking, he still didn’t see a thing.

“Everything is fine…” Riven had a whole tooth of it in his left forearm, it retreated of a moment but left a whole tooth in him. Riven was getting quite serios now. Everyone would pull out their teeth and drink a healing potion, but Riven, the cut of his whole arm.

“I remember back when my father got himself a tendril arm, he screamed in pain for hours, maybe it’s the adrenaline but…it doesn’t hurt at all?! But I can’t think of it that my father would have so much pain from it? I don’t remember much of it to be honest; I only remember my mother saying that it was to terrifying even for her!” Riven′s confused thoughts going through him.

He only knows that the tendril arm automatically adapts to an arm of you hold it at the open wound.

  AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Riven screamed louder as a human should even be capable of.

The tendrils tear into his flesh, bones and nerves becoming an actual part of his body. Over an hour Riven lay there in agony; the whole hour Veylan had to distract the rot snake king without seeing a thing or knowing what happened to Riven or if he is even alive.

From one moment from the other the extreme pain stopped but he was exhausted as someone who experienced months of extreme torture. Riven barely even has memories of what happened. He stands up, wet as he bathed a sweat, slowly his memories come back “I need to get up! I need to get up! Wait…why actually? What happened? I remember!”

He activated the Merrik eyes and sees Veylan, completely exhausted; but he did not get hit once! Like out of nowhere Riven got an idea “I remember, Veylan wanted to attack the end of the king’s body…but he got attack right before reaching it; how…...?” Riven′s eyes lit up getting ideas. “What if…its aura has also another ability than intimidate? What if it can sense things with its aura!” He took a step further to beat it, but what should he do now? He still has the advantage that both think that he is dead or unconscious. “But wait! If it can really sense with its aura, it already detected me!”

“VEYLAN! Can you sense with your aura? This is why it knew that you are going to attack its end!” Veylan was shocked that he suddenly woke up and had such a question. But about his Riven′s question he needed to think of his father. They played hide and seek often, his father could always find him with his aura; but when Veylan tried to find him with his aura, his father always managed to hide his presents. He just confirmed to Riven.

“Riven what happened, I only heard your scream!?” Right as Veylan asked, he got inattentive; the snake almost hit him. There Riven could use the tendril arm for the first time! The tendrils crapped Veylan and pulled him out of reach.

There was no time to explain anything now; they still had a major problem: maybe the know why the snake can feel everything but not how to beat it. “There are only limited ways we could overcome its aura, we find something to not be detected or someone has such an strong aura to overcome the snakes but we can already forget this; the only other thing I can think of now is if someone is fast enough to surpass its reaction time.” But all of those have issues, how should they be able to not get detected by its aura? In what world could they surpass its aura now? Maybe they can outsmart its reaction time for a moment, but what happens after this moment?

Riven thinks that surpassing its reaction time is the best method; but Veylan can’t let go of another method: in his village there were plenty of people that were able hide their aura; he knows that it is possible without certain items or so. “The question is if I can cultivate such ability in so short time?”

But Riven already had a plan: “What if I get at the ceiling with my tendril arm; you distract it and when it attacks, I pull myself instantly at its bodies end and finish it! What do you say?” Veylan looked into nothing lost in thought; the plan itself is worth a try, but Veylan can’t let go of this one idea.
