Chapter 31: Problems at School
Shade was told to return home and rest. As there were no commissions for him to work on anymore for the time being, he was told to take one day vacation excluding his rest day, Sunday, and return on Tuesday.
Monday came and with nothing to do, Shade decided to pick up Sebastian and Vanessa from school. Their school wasn’t that far from the orphanage building.
Shade decided to walk to the school and be reminded of the times he used to walk that path next to every day… Though it only were a couple of weeks ago, it feels like forever.
Shade had bought an expensive suit and coat to use when he wasn’t working. He couldn’t walk around with the same clothes as when he was Mr. Magician during his days off.
He bought extra white shirts from the same store as Mr. Rouge had bought Mr. Magician’s outfit… To think it was the same store we were looking at. Talk about a coincidence.
The coat was grey, and his suit was black. Reached the school he once had attended. He walked into the familiar brick building and waited patiently for Vanessa and Sebastian in the entrance.
…
Time passed and Shade noticed that no more students were walking out of the building… Why haven’t they come out yet?
Shade took out a coin and used it for divination. Through the divination, Shade knew that neither Vanessa nor Sebastian had left the building. He made another divination asking if the two of them had been at school at all today.
The divination come back as positive. Shade decided to walk to the principal’s office and knocked on the door. Shade heard a stern voice coming from behind the door.
“I am busy, please wait a minute!”
Shade refused to wait at all, instead he knocked once again and spoke with a loud voice.
“I am Shade, the older brother to the orphans Vanessa and Sebastian. I came to pick them up, but they did not come out of the building. I came here to ask for their current whereabouts.”
This wasn’t the first time something similar had happened. Shade was quite used to having to pick up Sebastian from the principal’s office and Vanessa would often be next to him.
Shade could hear a sigh come from the other side of the door as he heard the same stern and rather familiar voice call out to him.
“Come in.”

Shade opened the door and saw Sebastian standing with his head down. Vanessa ran up to Shade with tears in her eyes and pulled at his arm. Vanessa spoke calmly as she explained what had happened.
Not only were the content of her words familiar, but Shade had once experienced it himself. Shade wasn’t angry, he had been through more than his fair share of discrimination because of his background than he was willing to share.
“Sebastian here came into conflict with his math teacher. Apparently, he did not agree with the score of the math test they did two days ago.”
The principal shifted his stern tone to a calmer and more amicable tone. The last time he had spoken to Shade was after a certain fight.
That was the last time he had ever dared to call Shade or any of his siblings into his office during the time Shade still went to school. Shade had fought off more than 4 of his peers and was branded as a ticking time bomb.
The faculty agreed that it was best to not cause him any more trouble because of his background until he graduated.
However, the moment Shade graduated, the faculty decided to start discriminating against his younger siblings again.
“How was your score?”
Shade had turned to Sebastian while putting his hand on Vanessa’s head, trying to calm her down like how the older residents used to do when she was younger.
“I got 40% correct. However, I checked the answers, I got more than 93% correct. I confronted my teacher however he denied everything and refused to fix it.
I got a bit angry and cussed at him, I then got dragged here.”
“I see.”
Shade listened intently at Sebastian and then looked at the principal. A man in his later years sat in a leather chair which was “gifted” by rich parents.
Shade thought for a moment and then remembered something Specter had told him in passing during their time sparring.
Shade walked up to the office table which belonged to the principal, Shade borrowed a pen and started writing on a piece of paper while speaking.
“I will be taking these two home. If something like this ever happens again, please contact me by sending someone to this address.”
After finishing writing, Shade pushed the piece of paper towards the principal. The old principal looked at the address and the description of the building and the other things which Shade had written on the paper.
The old principal stood up in haste and spoke loudly to Shade that was about to walk out the door.
“I will change the test score and-”
Shade closed the door before the principal could finish his sentence. Vanessa and Sebastian looked startled, Shade had closed the door with more strength than necessary.
“Um… Shade? What did you write?”
Vanessa was the first person to speak. She looked at her older brother with a worried expression. Shade answered blankly.
“Nothing important.”
“Nothing important? Why would the principal act like that if it was nothing important?”
Vanessa refused to accept Shade’s answer. She continued to ask what Shade had written down but it wasn’t until Sebastian started asking as well before Shade told them what he had written.
“I simply wrote down my workplace, and that we had contact with the police and lawyers for any legal problems. I more or less threatened with legal actions.”
Vanessa and Sebastian couldn’t believe what they had just heard. They decided that it was for the best that they didn’t ask any more questions.
After returning home, Vanessa and Sebastian decided to study in Shade’s room. They asked Shade for help with their studying and homework from time to time.
The day passed and Tuesday came. Shade walked to the agency and saw Ms. Silver standing at the counter.
“Good morning, Ms. Silver!”
“Good morning.”
Shade was surprised to see the saintess manning the counter but instead of asking why she was doing that, he decided to ask another question.
“How did the raid go?”
