I had my suit, but Yv didn’t have anything on her. I had textile I bought in Jarn years ago though. She also ‘borrowed’ the spider silk and was putting a dress together. I had no fucking clue what she was doing, so I was just observing.
“Do you have pine green?”
This color?
“A bit more bluish.”
How about this one?
For someone with overpowered eyes, I know nothing about colors…
“Just show anything that you have that resembles blue-green.”
She picked a blue-green that was apparently called ‘pine green’. She requested a certain range of colors and picked out the color she needed.
“Do you by any chance have any ornaments?”
Like jewelery?
“Not quite.” She continued putting her dress together. It wasn’t finished, but I could see that she would turn heads while wearing it. Then again, the idols turn heads even in casual wear, so not sure how impressive that is. “How about gemstones?”
I have rubies, sapphires, uhh does obsidian count?
“Do you have jade?”
I got spinal shivers from hearing ‘jade’ as it was Hisui’s favorite stone.
I do…
“Can you grind them into vines?”
That was something I could do! I put my water magic with abrasives to work and abused my mana control to create the vines as intricate as I could.
Yv requested a lot of them and managed to attach them to her dress.
And just like that, she was finished. She didn’t hold back and changed into it.
“This…must be the best dress I’ve ever made… Thank you! Now I need a lot of sapphire blue!”
Finally, a color I know.
Yv had started to work on a sapphire-themed dress, most likely for Giana. The sapphires had to be ground into scales. Something about giving it a mermaid-like look.
I just provided her with the textile and ground stones for her. I didn’t have any stones she needed for Noelle’s dress.
“She will have to make the crystals for her own dress then. How do I look?”
Uh is that a trap question? All 3 of you are objectively hot.
Yv sighed and wanted to use the teleport pad, but I had different ideas.
We can’t use the same method as they used. It has to be flashy!
I teleported to the top of the roof of our VIP accommodation and a frost mana wave went out, causing it to snow.
There is no way that they could beat that.
I linked Yv up to my vision, and we looked over the city. Guards were running around and apprehended humans. It looked random and indiscriminate, but after close inspection, the ones that got apprehended had thin frozen spider threads attached to them. The innocent humans also had spider threads attached to them, but they weren’t frozen.
We also had some attached to us. So the reason they seemed so careless was because they could turn it around in mere moments. I’m impressed, and so was Yv.
It didn’t take long for Giana to appear. She changed with no shame and got linked up too.
“This is a gorgeous dress, Yv. Look at Deca, he has no idea what to say!”
“He was of great help in creating it. Shim and Shenah are apprehending a terrorist group.”
Yv told Giana what we had been up to while I stared.
“Silly Deca, I’m linked up with you, we can see that you’re staring.”
I have no idea what you are talking about!
I focused on the chaos in the city. The terrorists were confused about why their plan was exposed before they got into action. The guards had their shit together. They seemed to be holding some strings. Is that how they find their target?
It might not be surprising, but these terrorists are caught in Shim’s web, how fitting. Talking about Shim, he and Shenah crashed a party of important-looking humans, with maximum style points of course.
Hey, we need to up our game, mythical beasts from another dimension are making us seem like clowns.
“Only you think that…”
Shim was using his threads like I use wires but with more skill. I have to get there at one point too, wires are so flexible.
The humans formed some strange spear made out of mana and it set off alarm bells in Giana, Yv and me. Shim and Shenah also seemed alarmed.
If you discover this tale on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen. Please report the violation.
“Deca... what is that?!”
Oof that thing is bad news. Who made that skill? Or… wait… it’s an ancient skill…
Giana tensed up and I got squeezed by her.
The mana runes suggest that they will be relatively harmless to those that possess certain clusters of manarunes and are human. Basically, a skill to kill non-humans but…
I used indicators to highlight certain sections of the whole magic circle which I had unfolded. Giana might notice, but Yv wouldn’t.
“A magic circle with 5 folds? Where did they pick it up from…”
Maybe ancient texts, but the highlighted areas show that not only does it only deal damage to non-humans. It increases its damage against those that use exotic mana clusters, like the mystical beasts… this here increases it even more against immortals… this skill was made to kill mythical beasts…
So that’s their trump card. It would deal great damage or even kill any non-human and it would get stronger for any extra advantage the non-human has over them.
Shim and Shenah were handling the situation well. Shim can use illusions, and Shenah seemed to be able to inflict pain without seemingly doing anything. Totally not overpowered at all. They are mythical beings, so being overpowered makes sense.
Closer inspection revealed that Shenah could intensify the pain of any attack that had already landed. The type that gets stronger the longer the battle goes on is quite a nasty combo, as neither had to get close to inflict damage.
The human leaders got defeated and packaged in spider silk after a 20-minute battle. The humans had gotten 0 hits off. That skill gave them a scare but was inconsequential as it doesn’t matter if it doesn’t hit. The problem is that… more people might possess that skill.
Noelle, Raishin and Greg joined later. Noelle dragged Raishin into a small stone hut she made to change as Raishin didn’t want to change into a suit. Greg always wore suits, so he was fine.
Raishin and Noelle returned moments later and Giana explained the situation.
The public had been made aware of the situation and the guards were giving instructions on who to apprehend and who not. The many armed guards were the ones fighting the humans, while the many-headed ones addressed the questions and led the innocent humans to safety.
“This…is actually a good division of labor, so that’s why they had used a split of many-headed and many armed guards.” Giana said equally impressed as I was.
A many-armed guard demonstrated that as long as they didn’t get hit directly by the dangerous spear, they could catch it and touch it. So just like a real spear. It sure must have taken a lot of guts to test that out. These guys are no pushovers.
The demonstration of this brave guard rippled out and dangerous spears got caught left and right. Some got hit and seemed in excruciating pain but they were in the vast minority and their allies took care of the injured and covered their allies.
You said that Shim and Shenah were unaware of this… it seems like these guards did… or they have such an efficient system that it doesn’t matter if they get caught by surprise…
I think it’s the latter, we’re dealing with mythical beasts. Logic doesn’t apply to us and they might be like us, being able to stay calm and easily turn around tough situations with low stress.
It looks like that… look Shim and Shenah are up!
The two appeared as if they were hosts of a live show and announced that over 95% of the troublemakers had been caught. They made it flashy and showed off their style points. All panic had disappeared from the city, the only ones panicking were the terrorists, which made it easier for the civilians to pick them out and deliver them to the guards.
Shim then thanked me and Yv for tipping them off to the whole city.
I sighed and Yv patted my shoulder. “Well, that was expected, right? They would have continued their kinky play if we didn’t teleport in…”
Kinky play? Like what?
Noelle smacked Raishin and shook her head.
They disappeared and webs appeared behind us out of nowhere, put together a teleport pad, and disappeared. Shim and Shenah appeared from the teleport pad moments after.
He inspected our stylish outfits and smiled. He bowed politely. “Thank you for saving our city.”
Uhh, you and your guards did that by yourselves. All we did was gather information. We did nothing but watch. We’re impressed though.
“Well, our city is missing active intel gatherers like you two. Surely…”
We’re not staying here sorry.
“I guessed as much.” Shim nodded at Shenah who walked over to us and handed us a strange frozen cube with spider silk wires in it.
“You can contact us through this wire box. If you ever need our help just give us a call. As mythical beasts, we need to help each other out.”
Giana accepted the box. The rings on their limbs were the greenest I’ve ever seen. It first had a tint of blue in it, like that pine green on Yv’s dress but it was completely green now. Never thought that colors would be so important.
Shim…did you catch the name of that dangerous skill they used? We could feel its intimidation from here.
“It seemed to have been a smaller problem than we initially thought. They called it [Humanity’s Last Hope]. We should be fine as long as we don’t get hit by that.”
I looked at our slower members of our team.
What?
“Whoa lil’ bro that’s rude!”
“Deca…”
What? Can’t I look at my team members?
And conveniently missing Raishin and Yvonne?
Just your imagination.
Shim invited us to a smaller version of the party that we missed earlier in the week. It was a clash of style points but we easily won as we generated 3 times the amount of style points as them as we were with 6.
We got introduced to some important figures of the city and got more connections.
Shim and Shenah handled the aftermath masterfully and it didn’t seem as if anything had happened the day prior.
I warned him about a cult named Ouroboros who strive for immortality and about the fact that they’re close to the imaginary slavery line and that not too far north of them, slavery is generally accepted.
Raishin found the AA the next day. We had completely forgotten to visit it, mostly because we got VIP accommodation.
We decided to see if we could find a quest or mission to do on the next day.
follow if the story is interesting enough.
