33. Twin Inferno (3)

"Sir, that was her, the Queen of Time! She really was the number 4th Strongest Believer."

"We should go after her now, sir! There won't be any next time! She's really hard to pinpoint! She did escape that facility after all!"

"No! We don't have the resources yet. There would be too many casualties! We need at least four or five personnel from the Ten Commandments of God. And even then, there's a high chance that we'll still lose. This is the Queen of Time we're talking about!"

  "Y-YES SIR! UNDERSTOOD!"

"Besides, the boy in black that was with her. . . I've heard rumors about his physical appearance, but I'm not sure what it was."

"We're heading back to the HQ ASAP!"

  "SIR, YES SIR!!

  .

  .

  .

Back to Runelt and Rena. . .

Runelt and Rena have finished their petty squabble.

  *pant pant*

"That was 100% my mistake! It will never happen again!"

"Geez, you're a Judge! Stuff like this should be obvious to you!"

"Yeah, I know! But when you screamed for me like that, I kinda tensed up. . ."

"*Sigh* I apologize as well. . . We don't want that kind of stuff to happen again, right?"

  "Yeah, you're right!"

  *pant pant*

"By the way, onii-chan, why are there so many people picking a fight with us, knowing our title? This is like the third time already!"

"Don't worry! It's not because they're trying to be mean or commit a crime or any of the sort."

  "Can you elaborate?"

"Sure, I'll explain on the way. Come!"

Rena hops off Runelt's arms, his back burns bright, and a pair of golden fiery wings spread out. He flies upwards and leaves the area with his sister.

"So, you know, there's this competitive side of being a Believer?"

  "Huh? There is?"

"Yes! People compete and defeat each other in a healthy fight to rise in ranks. There's this app called Brawliever that is used worldwide by most Believers. When you challenge another Believer, you have to send the request through the app on your smartphone. When the other participant receives it, someone from the world government will oversee the match. I think there are people with clairvoyance-type Faith power in the world government to watch over the fights. Oh, and of course, you are prohibited from killing the other participant!"

"Hooooo, and what are those ranks?"

"So, our Faith power is being ranked and organized by the world government. Some people strive to be better at understanding their own abilities and try to fight one another. The app even has lists of the ranks that display the person's face, identity, and their Faith power, although it's only the name of their Faith power and not how their power works."

  "Isn't that a nice thing?"

"Well, I never said it's a bad thing. This is the world government's way of lessening crimes against Believers. Not to mention, these fights usually take place in secluded areas or locations that not a lot of people pass by, so crimes can't take place in these places as often as they used to. It's a clever way to keep both Believers and criminals in check."

"Are there some kind of rewards?"

"There is actually. People who ranked from 100,000th and above will be given prize money monthly if they can stay in those ranks every month, making it so people can actually make a living out of it. They were also giving some kind of special privileges for ranks 11th to 100th, but I have no clue what they are. "

  "11th to 100th? That's weird."

"You are right! That is because the number one through number ten spot is for that group of people, you know?"

"Oh, that's right, The Ten Commandments of God."

"Yeah! In the app itself, there's no information about them. They are only listed as question marks, and the only information about them is their title and the name of their Faith power. These ten people are said to be too dangerous that each and every single one of them has the capability to end the entire human civilization in the blink of an eye."

"That's a bit dramatic! You're saying not even the world governments have their information?"

"It's a possibility. Although there are rumors that the world governments lied about not knowing anything about them. There are even rumors that they themselves are the highest order within the world government."

"Heeee. . . I'm surprised I never knew about this app. And I'm surprised you only told me this now." said Rena as she pouts.

"That's because this has nothing to do with us. We, as a Judge and a Support, don't really have time for all these. We only care about saving others, don't you agree?"

Rena was amazed by his older stepbrother's conviction as a Judge.

"W-Well, at least you're a dedicated person to your duty aside from being a dumb hedonist."

"If you're gonna compliment me, at the very least don't end it with an insult, you cheeky little girl!"

"WHA-? I'M NOT A LITTLE GIRL!"

"WE'RE FLYING HIGH IN THE SKY! DON'T SHAKE SO MUCH YOU IDIOT!!"

"DON'T CALL YOUR OWN SISTER IDIOT!!!"

"I SAID DON'T MOVE AROUND SO MUCH!"

Runelt and Rena are at each other's throats yet again, even when they're so high above the sky.

"Wait! We have to meet up with Light-nii-san. It's almost lunch break!" said Rena.

  "Oh, right! Let's go!"

They shut down their banter to head towards Light's location, but then Runelt stops moving and just hovers over the sky.

  ". . . ."

  "What's wrong, Onii-chan?"

"That dumbass didn't tell me where to meet at all."

"Wow. . . What an ultimate loner. He isn't used to inviting someone out!"

Runelt and Rena wore the same pitiful expression again as they talked about Light.

  .

  .

  .

An hour later on some random back alley in Indonesia. . .

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.

Runelt and Rena have arrived and landed at the supposedly meeting location.

"He really chose some random alleyway since it's close to his home." said Runelt.

"Cafes exist and we're having a meeting in a freaking back alley? Light-nii-san is seriously socially retarded." said Rena with anger.

They waited for a few minutes as they chatted about their everyday routines until Light arrived and descended from the sky above. Light lands on the ground smoothly, and Lily hops off his back.

"Runelt! Rena-chan! Long time no see!" said Light, greeting them.

Runelt and Rena didn't reply and were frozen in place when they saw the figure behind Light. Runelt and Rena then squat and turn their back away from Light and Lily.

"Is that what I think it is?" whispers Runelt.

"This cannot be! This is Light-nii-san we're talking about." whispers Rena.

"Is it possible that she's simply just his friend?"

"I don't see someone who's just a friend holding on to his back that tightly."

"Y-Yeah, but they were flying! It might be just mere safety precautions!"

Light suddenly transforms his hands and grabs Runelt and Rena on the top of their head. They turn their heads towards Light.

"You two have some nerve insulting me on my back while I'm right behind you!" said Light with a sinister tone and look on his face.

"Ukh, I forgot how nasty this guy's glare is!"

"How is someone this scary has a girlfriend?"

  "AAACK!"

  "AAAWW!"

Light slams their head against each other's and they fall to the ground.

"No wonder I was irritated before, you guys were talking behind my back after my message, weren't you?"

"How in the world do you even know about that? Why are you so sharp on these things, Ligjt-nii-san?"

"Er-hem! Anyway, let me introduce you! This is my girlfriend as well as my Support. Her name is Liliana Aiha!"

Lily walks forward and greets them.

"I'm Liliana Aiha. Nice to meet you! You can call me Lily." said Lily as she bowed her head.

Runelt and Rena stand up and introduce themselves.

"My name is Runelt Redwingz. I am the Second Judge of the Seven Layers of Judgment. I am the Judge of Pride. Nice to meet you, Lily-san."

"M-My name is Rena Redwingz. I am the Second Judge's Support. I'm his younger sister, but we're step-siblings. Nice to meet you, Lily-san!"

"Nice to meet you too, Runelt-san, Rena-san! By the way, what do you mean by ‘Second Judge’?"

"Light never told you about it?" asks Runelt.

"Now that you mention it, I never did tell her."

"It's the order of when we were chosen and appointed as Judges. Light here is the first of the Judges as well as the leader of the Seven Layers of Judgment!" explains Runelt.

  "First? LEADER?" said Lily, confused.

  Lily turns to Light.

"Light-kun! Why were you not explaining any of this? This seems pretty important to me!"

"Uh. . . um. . . I kinda forgot. . . It doesn't matter not knowing this anyway, you'd still do a good job as my Support."

"Well, it helps me understand the concept of the Judges a little bit, so it is pretty important to me!" said Lily as she points her finger right at Light's nose.

"Yeah, you're right. I'm sorry!" Light apologizes to Lily.

  "ARE YOU DONE FLIRTING?"

  Rena is suddenly upset.

"WHICH PART OF ANY OF THAT WAS EVEN FLIRTING?" Light and Lily shout at the same time.

"TCH! I was so surprised to see you again after a long time, and suddenly, here you are having a girlfriend, Light-nii-san. I'm a bit sour about it!"

"Huh? Why? Do you have any feelings for me, Rena-chan?" asks Light.

"Not really. I just want to date you so I can brag about having a boyfriend to my friends on social media." said Rena with a somewhat flat expression.

"What on earth do you think a relationship is?" said Light and Runelt at the same time, questioning Rena's way of thinking.

  "A-Anyway—" Lily interrupts the conversation.

"—I think it's best if we share our Faith power's information, shouldn't we?"

"That is correct! Well, all of you already know mine, so we can start with you, Runelt!" said Light.

"Alright! My Faith power is Icarus the Phoenix, Special type. I can transform my body into that of a golden phoenix. Since I am not an actual transformation type, I don't have the 40% body transformation limit, but instead, I can only transform any of my body parts into two different body parts of the Phoenix. With my transformation, I have gained amazing physical strength. My flames can heal and regenerate any kind of wounds, even lethal ones, but they only work on myself, so I cannot heal others. I can also "launch" my transformation away as a projectile attack. I can increase the size of my transformation. Oh, and also, I can increase the temperature of my flames to an extreme degree."

"How hot are we talking?" asks Light.

"Rivals that of the sun's core." said Runelt with a proud smile.

  "Wait, really?"

"Light? Didn't I tell you about this?"

  "Not that last part!"

"The scale of the Judge's Faith power seems pretty unbelievable. Not to mention Light-kun's ability to even affect space and time." wonders Lily.

"Next is me. My Faith power is Scarlet Flame, an elemental type. I can generate large amounts of scarlet colored flames. My limit is the scale of a small village. Unlike other Elemental types, there are no naturally existing scarlet flames, so I can only generate them and then manipulate them as I please afterward. My Scarlet flame is special; it burns directly at a person's sense of pain, so it automatically acts as a torture device, but the drawback is that this isn't really useful against non-living things. And it doesn't pack as much heat as regular fire. Though it can still burn some weak materials, for example, paper!"

"Hmm, I see, the Support doesn't have the same strength as their Judges do. I can safely assume now that the Judge's Faith power is on par or even stronger than most Believers within the ranks of the Ten Commandments of God." said Lily.

And then it's Lily's turn. She explains her Faith power to Runelt and Rena.

  .

  .

  .

"WHAT? YOU'RE ONE OF THE TEN COMMANDMENTS OF GOD!? THE NUMBER FOUR EVEN?" said Runelt and Rena at the same time, with their jaw dropped wide open.

  "Y-Yes! Nice to meet you. . ."

"YOU'RE THAT QUEEN OF TIME?" said Rena.

Light and Lily were shocked by Rena's words because that was the title Lily had gained back when she was an assassin.

"Wait, how do you know about that?" asks Light.

"What do you mean, how do I know? Every Believer should've known at least each title that the members of the Ten Commandments of God have!" said Runelt.

  "Can you elaborate?" asks Light.

"Don't you know about the app? Brawliever?"

"I don't know!" said Light and Lily.

"Urgh. . . I have to explain this again!?" said Runelt.

Runelt proceeds to explain everything about the app, Brawliever, once again.

  .

  .

  .

"I see, such a thing does exist. . ." said Light, surprised.

"Light, you own a smartphone! How come you never see this app anywhere?"

"In my defense, I don't really use my phone that much! I was always in front of my PC."

"I'm so glad they don't have any important information regarding me." said Lily in relief.

"You sounded like you're a runaway criminal!?" said Rena to Lily.

  . . . . . .

  "Well. . ."

Light and Lily proceed to explain the unfortunate events in Lily's past. It took almost half an hour to explain everything.

"I. . . never imagined something like that is happening right under our nose. . ." said Runelt, sounding regretful.

"LILY-ONEE-CHAN!!" said Rena as she held Lily's hands together.

  "Onee-chan?!" Lily was surprised.

"I WILL TREASURE YOU FOREVER *sobs* LILY-ONEE-CHAN! WAAAAAA!!" Rena is crying from hearing Lily's past.

"Uuuuh, I'm fine now though! Light-kun helped me a lot to move on from my past." said Lily as she takes a glance at Light.

Light caught Lily's stare, and she smiled back at her. Seeing his smile, Lily turns red and pouts her mouth.

"GRRRRR!! WHY ARE YOU FLIRTING EVEN WHEN I'M THIS CLOSE TO YOU, ONEE-CHAN?!" Rena is suddenly angry again.

"OI! What's with you? You've been really envious for a while now!" said Light as he's annoyed and points at Rena.

"SHUT UP! LILY-ONEE-CHAN IS MINE!" said Rena as she hugs Lily and drags her away from Light.

"SHE IS MY GIRLFRIEND! OF COURSE, SHE'S MINE!" said Light as he pushes Rena away while pulling Lily towards him.

“Um. . .” Lily can only stay silent as she's being pulled back and forth between the two of them.

"STAY AWAY FROM MY PRECIOUS OLDER SISTER, YOU LONER!"

"WHAT DID YOU SAY YOU CHEEKY BRAT?!"

Light and Rena let go of Lily and proceeded to fight physically with each other.

"(Hmm, I didn't know they were this close. . .)" said Lily to herself.

"Oi oi! Are you two seriously throwing hands at each other?" said Runelt to Light and Rena.

They both stopped fighting and are out of breath.

"Anyway, Light, what is this important thing that you want to talk about?"

Light stands up, and his mood changes completely.

"(He's serious now. This is something big. . .)" said Runelt to himself once he saw Light's expression.

"Runelt, I think it's time to gather all of the Judges together!"

Runelt and Rena were surprised hearing Light's words.

"You have a reason, right?" asks Runelt.

"Yeah, a big and dire one, something that must not be ignored!"

"I understand. You wanna talk about it when we're all together, right?"

"Yes, it's better if you don't know right now! Otherwise, you'll try to act on your own."

"You are absolutely right. Me and Rena will probably do exactly that."

  Rena nods in agreement.

"So, which Judges do you know the location of?"

"Only you and the 4th Judge pair."

  "WHAT? A dead-end already?"

"Although I've been hearing some rumors."

  "What rumor?"

  "There are multiple."

"Tell me about the most believable one!" Light demands.

"There's this rumor about one of the Judges."

  "And?"

"It is said that this Judge is a serial killer. He goes after his victims mostly at night, and he always leaves his victims dead from blood loss."

  Light and Lily were shocked.

"One of the Judges is a serial killer? Weren’t every single Judge chosen directly by God? Why is a serial killer one of us?" said Light.

"I don't know the details either."

  "What number is he?"

"Seventh. He is the Seventh Judge, the last Judge that was chosen to be one of the Seven Layers of Judgment."

"How do I find this guy?"

"You want to deal with this? Maybe I should be the one—"

  "No!"

Runelt was suddenly interrupted by Light.

"I am the leader of the Judges. Let me be the one to handle this!"

"Light, to be perfectly honest, I have a terrible feeling about this. Please proceed with caution!" warns Runelt.

  "Will do!" answers Light.

"Light-nii-san, be careful, okay? You tend to be reckless." Rena advise.

"Don't worry, Rena-chan!" Lily puts her hand on Light's shoulder.

"Light-kun has me! I won't let anything happen to him!"

Runelt and Rena smile with relief, hearing Lily's declaration. Light puts his hand on top of Lily's hand, which she put on his shoulder.

"Thank you, Lily!" said Light with a smile towards her.

  "You're welcome, Light-kun!" replies Lily.

"GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!! YOU TWO ARE FLIRTING AGAIN!!"

  "NO, WE'RE NOT!!!"

"(Wow, I have a feeling that this kind of interaction is going to keep happening over and over again from now on. . .)" said Runelt to himself.
