21. Memories (6)

  Day 3001

I was tasked to destroy a small country. I had planned to immediately finish the mission using the same technique I used when I destroyed the village before. Along the way, I encountered a military group from said country. Strangely enough, they recognized me from the rumors of the underground. My Faith power has been heavily recognized in the underworld. I had no choice but to engage in combat. I was shot with countless bullets, but not even a single bullet reached me. I have created my clock shields to fend off the bullets. I accelerated my speed and ran towards the military soldiers through the countless bullet shots.

Five seconds after I started running, I had completely killed all of the soldiers. There were roughly a thousand of them. I move along with my preparation to destroy the whole country. I form a gigantic clock-hand sword above the sky. Its size is so large that the light of the sword itself can brighten up the whole country.

I shoot the sword downwards. When it lands, it shines brightly and explodes in a big radius. Everything that got caught up in the light explosion is accelerated into a distant future, and everything except the soil itself has turned into dust.

Immediately, the whole country disappears as if it were taken and moved somewhere else without a trace. The facility said they used their satellite image and captured the moment my gigantic sword stabbed the land of the country. Yet again, I had prolonged Michele's life for another day.

I, of course, fought ‘God’ again today. To be perfectly honest, I don't know what I should do anymore. I don't know how I should attack him. I've been trying to come up with everything I could think of to defeat him, but nothing works. NOTHING!

I don't know anymore. If I have to do this for the rest of my life, I don't think I could last that long. I've been thinking of killing myself to escape from all this. I want to be free. I don't want to do this anymore. I'm tired. I can't take him down. I cannot defeat him.

My hands instinctively took a pose to pray. I put my praying hands on the floor and I rest my head on top of them.

  Please, someone, help me.

  Please, someone, save me.

Please, someone, get me out of this whole thing.

I don't want this anymore. I can't do this anymore.

Dear God, God of the universe, if you're listening, if you’re there, if you exist, please help me. Or at least send someone who can pull me out of this situation. I am begging you. I am tired. I don't know what to do anymore. I expressionlessly cried as I prayed.

I've never prayed in my entire life. I didn't even know if the real God exists out there. Everything I know was about assassinating people and life inside this facility. I don't know anything else about this world. Yet somehow, my purest heart, the deepest part of my conscience, called out to the One True God for unknown reasons.

I pray that I will be saved.

I pray that I will be freed.

I pray that someone will come to me.

I pray that Michelle will be saved as well.

I pray so that I can continue my life with Michelle as well.

I pray so that I can stop crying.

I pray so that I can start smiling.

I pray so that I can have a choice in my life.

  I pray.

  I pray.

  I pray.

I continue to shed tears. I keep crying harder.

For some reason, I felt like Michelle was also crying for me in the room she was locked in.

  "Let's start today's fight!"

That man appeared, and his presence broke my sadness away.

I wipe my tears from my face and I stand up. I summon my clock-hand sword in my right hand.

"(For Mi-chan, I have to stay strong. For Mi-chan, I must not give up. For Mi-chan, I must not falter. For Mi-chan, I will always stand up right after every time I am defeated. For Mi-chan, I have to keep trying. For Mi-chan, I will find a way to defeat him. For Mi-chan, I will do anything.)"

As expected, I lost. I seriously don't know what to do anymore. I lost half of my face and all of my limbs in the fight. I rewind myself back to full health and I have suffered yet another defeat today.

  Day 3658

I was tasked to kill an investor who had been running away from the facility. The mission brought me to the rooftop of an apartment. I accelerated my speed and jumped to a lower-middle floor towards a hotel on the other side of a highway. I landed safely on a balcony where my target's room is. Through a glass door in front of me, I saw that someone was already inside, along with the target.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

A boy with spiky black hair dressed in black is currently standing against my target. The boy was alerted by my target, and he turned my way. The boy and I had a little conversation about how we met each other earlier this morning, but I honestly only vaguely remember him.

I rushed towards my target in the middle of my conversation with the boy, with my clock hand sword in hand. This was the night that I failed my mission for the first time. I was a human who could manipulate time, yet I could not seem to take down the boy in the black outfit. I didn't even face "God" that day.

  "FALL! QUEEN OF TIME!"

"(Mi-chan. . . I'm sorry. I cannot take this guy down. I let you down, my dearest friend.)"

The boy landed his final blow, and I lost consciousness.

  .

  .

  .

"So, you failed your mission. You know what that means, right?"

  "W-Wait. . ."

  Lily's voice trembles.

"This is the consequence of your failure. Didn't we discuss this? You've been doing well this whole time. I praise your tenacity. It's such a shame that the ten-year-old streak has ended. Still, though, nobody else has a record of killing people each day for ten years without a single failure. This must have been a world record already!"

  "Stop. . ."

Lily turns around slowly towards Michelle, who's behind the glass. She cannot use her Faith power. She was crippled by her mental state.

  "Just know this."

Martin walks closer. He is now standing directly behind Lily.

"I saw him sneaking around from the camera in the security room. Strangely, I couldn't detect his presence using my Faith power, but it is not important right now. This was all his fault. It would not have come down to this if it were not for his meddling. You know what to do next?"

Suddenly, Michelle's weakest voice was heard by Lily.

  ". . .L. . .ly. . ."

  "MI-CHAN!"

Lily ran towards the glass window and leaned against it.

  "So. . .ry. . ."

"What do you mean? I'm the one who should be sorry!"

  "You. . .stayed. . till. . .end. . ." Michelle's voice gets even weaker.

"MI-CHAN!" Lily's voice began to tremble.

  "Thank. . you. . .my. . .dear. . .est. . .friend."

Michelle utters her final words, and it is gratitude towards her best friend.

  "Mi-chan?"

  Michelle didn't respond.

  "Mi. . .chan?"

  "MI-CHAN!! MI-CHAN!! MI-CHAN!! MI-CHAAAAAAANN!!!"

She's crying as she shouts her friend's name. She tries to make her hands glow to break the glass, but as soon as her hand starts to glow a little, the light disperses. She tries to summon her sword, but when the sword is still in the middle of forming, it breaks apart. She touches the glass window and tries to engulf it with her light to disintegrate it open. The glass did not even shine a bit.

She feels so powerless and helpless. She continues to hit the glass window harder and harder, and hopes to break it with her physical power alone, but to no avail. And then she hits it one last time. She stops, and her fist slides down the glass window as she falls on her knees slowly to the floor.

  "Mi-chan. . ."

She starts crying. She remembers their time together. She's reminiscing about their past. Her heart is broken and she starts sobbing.

  "Mi-chan. . . *sobs sobs*"

Lily lets out her saddest voice. She felt like something had been ripped apart from her. She felt empty. She felt hurt. She felt horrible. She feels broken. Her face looks terrible with all the tears, and her face also turns red. She feels so guilty for letting Michelle die after everything that she's been through.

  "Pathetic, Queen of Time."

  Martin suddenly interrupts her.

  "SHUT UP!"

Lily turns around as she shouts her loudest and angriest while her eyes and cheeks are still wet.

  *pant pant*

Her crying and anger tire her out.

"You heard me before, right? This was all his fault."

  ". . ."

  Lily pauses for a second.

  "His. . .fault?"

"That's right. Everything would have stayed the way it was. That meddling boy will pay, but the most important thing is that, You. Hate. Him!"

As soon as Martin said so, Lily was suddenly consumed by an unhealthy amount of hatred towards Light. A red ring appears, circling around each of her pupils.

  "He. . .killed Mi-chan?"

"We are moving to the next phase!" said the scientist to Martin from the speaker.

  "That is right . . . He killed Mi-chan. . . If he never interfered . . . If we never met . . .Mi-chan would still be here!"

  "I. . . HATE HIM!"

  .

  .

  .

I found myself back in the middle of the endless darkness again.

"Ten years of that? No wonder her eyes always looked so painful and lifeless."

My body was freed from the black swords. I fall and kneel on the ground. I put my hands on my face.

"I understand Lily-san, I hate those people too."

"The people of the facility and that ‘God’ that put you into that situation, I, too, want to tear them apart!"

I was overcome by Lily's hatred. I am slowly losing myself.

"I WANT TO KILL ALL OF THEM!"

I smiled creepily as if I were the one who experienced Lily's past.

"I WANT TO MURDER ALL OF THEM!!! I AM GOING TO TEAR THEM APART! HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA!"

I laughed hysterically. I shouted hysterically.

"MASSACRE! I WILL MASSACRE ALL OF THEM!!! I WON'T LET A SINGLE ONE ALIVE!! AND I’LL ENJOY EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEIR FACES AS THEY MEET THEIR END BY NMY HANDS!!!"

  I shout and smiles creepily.

  "Lunehart-san, don't lose yourself!"

  *!!!!!!!*

I stopped. The negativity I felt was suddenly heavily toned down. Inside Lily's heart, there was supposedly only me and Lily herself here, but I heard a female voice that didn't belong to her, yet I felt familiar hearing the voice.

My vision became clearer. I took a glance in front of me.

"Nice to meet you, Lunehart-san!" the girl was smiling as she greeted me.

  "Mi-Michelle-san. . .? How are you here?"

"The One True God sent me here, heheh!"

In front of me, the deceased Michelle appears. The room where me and Lily stand has disappeared. Everything is just white now, all around us.

  "I. . . I'm sorry!!"

I immediately bow to her. I also shed tears even though I never met her. Lily's memories of her are affecting me.

"When I came here with Lily, I should've stayed with her! WE COULD'VE SAVED YOU!"

I was sobbing hard. I really feel Lily's sadness towards Michelle.

  "Lunehart-san, lift your head."

I lift my head per her request.

"It's okay. I am in a better place right now. Don't focus on blaming yourself for me, focus on saving Lily-chan. Do it for me!"

  Michelle smiles yet again.

"Wait, Michelle-san! Shouldn't you approach her now and save her yourself? I'm sure she'll calm down once she sees her best friend again!"

  ". . ."

Michelle's smile suddenly disappeared and turned into a flat expression.

  "Michelle-san?"

  "Lunehart-san. . . You got something wrong. . ."

  "W-What is it?"

  ". . ."

  "You see. . . I've always hated Lily-chan. . ."

  *!!!*

As soon as she uttered those words, my heart, which had already experienced Lily's painful life, felt like it sank to the bottom of a bottomless abyss.
