Chapter 33: Exercise

After breakfast, Lee gets dressed, then, looking at his phone, he opens the music app and makes a search for a song, happy that he found it, he presses play and heads outside. All the time he has been thinking about the dreams he had the night before. He gets an old school bag and fills it with heavy objects, then, placing it on, he heads into the woods and starts to jog, after warming up he starts to run, after a bit he finds a tree and uses one of the branches to do pull ups, after an hour and a half of exercise Lee returns home as he sings the songs he has been listening to.

“Morning Lee,” says Sue as Lee gets into the house.

Lee smiles. “Morning mum,” he greets as he turns off his earphones.

As the sound starts to come off the phone, Sue turns her head to look at it, then at Lee that is singing along. “What are you listening to?” she inquires. “What language is that?”

Lee drinks some water then looking at the phone he says, “It’s a Portuguese song, from a famous singer.” Lee shows the phone to Sue.

“Morning Lee. This song is from the year two thousand twenty-five,” says Kenji having entered the kitchen and looking at the phone too.

“And since when do you understand Portuguese?” asks Sue.

Lee starts to smile, then he becomes confused. “I don’t know. But I can understand every word he is singing.”

Sue grabs her phone and opens the business app that she has, one that translates automatically. “Okay, what about this one? What are they singing?” Sue plays a song on the list, and a translation appears on her phone.

Lee listens to the song then translates it, once Sue stops the song he adds. “That is actually a Brazilian duo, they were two brothers, the song is actually older than two thousand twenty-five.”

“You can speak Brazilian too?” asks Kenji.

Lee shrugs. “It’s practically the same language… only some… words.” He starts to space out and making long pauses between the words. “are different.”

Sue and Kenji notice that Lee becomes paler, then the latter gets a nose bleed, as the parents take a step forward Lee runs out the back door again, only to kneel and throw up.

Sue and Kenji try to get closer to Lee but are unable to move, because as he stands up and turns around, they see his face deprived of any emotion, and the dead look on his unblinking eyes. Lee walks back into the house, gets some water and adds a teaspoon of sugar, after stirring it and dissolving the sugar in the water he drinks it.

After drinking the water, Lee wipes the blood from his nose, then closing his eyes he tilts his head back and smiles.

  “Lee?” calls out Sue cautiously.

Still smiling Lee opens his eyes and looks at his parents. “Yes, mum?” He notices that both Sue and Kenji are searching for words, so he adds. “Don’t worry, I’m fine.”

“How can you be fine?” Sue asks, approaching Lee with caution. “You just had a nose bleed, and threw up!”

“I know,” says Lee, still with a soft smile on his face. “The nose bleed was because I just realised I knew a whole language, one that no one ever taught me. When I was just singing and listening to it, it was alright, but as you asked me to translate the song my brain associated that I actually know the language, so the shock made the nose bleed, and because I only had a cup of milk and gone exercise in the woods and drunk the water now, that same shock made my stomach upset.”

Sue and Kenji look at one another, then Kenji goes out of the kitchen as Sue asks. “What about now? Why did you looked like a zombie? And why did you add sugar to the water?”

“The zombie like, was because I was trying to calm down from the shock,” Lee explains. “As for the sugar water, was because it is the best thing to drink after vomiting, as the blood sugar normally drops.”

“Alright, we will wait and keep an eye on him,” says Kenji getting back into the kitchen. Then he hangs up his phone.

  “Is he coming?” Sue asks.

“Yes, they will come and take a look at Lee,” says Kenji.

Lee starts to head out. But as he is about to exit the kitchen Sue calls out. “Lee where are you going?”

“I was going to do some more exercise, then take a shower,” says Lee turning around.

“Exercise is good,” says Kenji. “I will join you.” Lee nods then grabs his phone and takes it outside.

Then he grabs his bag and places it on again, as he looks for metro techno music.

Once they get to the garage that Kenji had turned into a home gym, but got forgotten and slowly become part gym part storage Lee starts to do some stretches, afterwards he stands straight and drops forward on to his hands and starts to do some push ups. Kenji starts to do some exercises too, but always keeping an eye on Lee.

“Why do you have that backpack on, Lee?” Kenji asks as for the twenty minutes Lee never took it off, with the exception of to move it from his back into his chest.

Lee smiles. “It’s only extra weights, I notice that I was no longer struggling so I added some weights.” He then gives his bag to Kenji.

Kenji holding the bag looks shocked. “Hold on a second.” He goes to a storage unit behind one of the work benches in the garage and gets a scale. “Lee, there is five kilos in this bag.”

“I don’t know,” says Lee looking at the scale displaying five kilos and under it zero point seventy-eight stones. “I just add stones till I find it heavy but not too heavy.”

Kenji opens the bag only to find it full of stones. He is about to say something but his phone chimes. “Let’s go back home now, someone is coming to take a look at you,” says Kenji placing the bag on the floor.

Lee goes take a shower as Kenji goes to Sue.
