Chapter 32: Crystal Class

That night after dinner, Lee goes into his room and looks up how beast stone crystals get turned into jewellery and what can go wrong with them.

It turns out that most of the time, the energy that is in the crystals reacts with the energy from the tools, generating an electromagnetic current that leads into an explosion. Lee also finds out how to determine the best place to cut or drill the crystal so as not to release the energy within. In the event that the energy gets released too fast, it can cause injuries like getting a burn from an electric current.

On a different search, Lee locates a webpage with descriptions and ways to determine the stone crystal level and if it has any attributes.

Lee then grabs one of the stones and examines it. “According to the list, these rabbit beast stones, they are level two, all four of them.” After reading better, Lee discovers that in fact the stone level is of level four and not two. “Oh, alright, because they are this murky and size, it’s a level four, as for this thumb-sized stone, it’s a level two. They have the same murkiness, but as it is bigger, it’s a lower level than the rabbits.”

Lee then grabs his phone and, going into the app store, he locates an app that claims it can determine the beast origin, crystal level, and if there is any elemental attribute; then it can show an estimated market value.

Once installed, Lee gets a holographic projection from the phone showing how to use the app.

So Lee gets a coin and places it next to one of the stones, then with the camera he scans them. The hologram shows the image of the rabbit Lee caught. Then next to the rabbit it shows the stone; once he selects the hologram of the stone, it shows information.

Lee reads the information. “Spragly Rabbit Beast, level four stone, no elemental attribute, estimated value; two hundred fifty yen.” At the bottom of the stone information, there is a button that says ‘Add to collection’; once Lee selects it, it shows that he needs to register. Once registered, Lee finds a tab called collection; in it, he sees the stone he just scanned.

Testing the app, he scans the same stone again. This time he gets a message saying, "Stone is already on your collection." “This has to be a fake app,” Lee thinks as he replaces the stone for another one. Scanning it, it shows like before; the difference is in the price, that one costs five yen less.

“Why is it that one costs more than the other?” Lee asks after adding the second stone to the collection.

“What costs more than the other?” asks Sue, standing at Lee’s doorway.

Lee looks at his mum and says, “These two crystals, these two have a difference of five yen.”

“How do you know?” she asks, getting near Lee and looking at the stones.

Lee grabs his phone and shows Sue. “This app, it gives details on the stones. I thought it was fake, but when I scan the same stone, it says that I already have it in my collection."

Sue installs the app on her phone and scans the stone; it gives the same information as it did to Lee. This time, however, there is extra information.

Sue reads the information. “Crystal status, from: Spragly Rabbit Beast, level type: level four stone, element: no elemental attribute, estimated value; two hundred fifty yen, stone has been registered by the user Zurc.” Sue looks at Lee.

Lee nods. “Zurc is the name I used in the app when I registered; it asked for a username, so I just used that one.”

“Okay.” Sue then looks at the button, ‘request purchase’, then looking at Lee she presses it. It asks her to register; once registration is complete, Lee gets a message, ‘Sue Watson is requesting to purchase your stone, do you accept?’ “Click on accept to see what it says.”

“Okay, mum.” Lee clicks on accept and it asks him to enter personal details. “I don’t think it is a good idea.”

“You are right, but what if you wanted to sell them?” asks Sue, as now it seems that the stone is registered under Lee’s username.

Lee cancels the sale and Sue gets a message on her phone, then Lee goes into his collection and selects the stone. “I can remove it from my collection,” he says, showing the options. Sue selects the option that says, scans on the stone options; there it shows a list with three scans, each one has a number, followed by the user who scanned the stone, the time, and approximate location.

“You can use the app, but like you said, don’t enter any private details like it was asking,” says Sue, closing the app on her phone. “But these apps, sometimes they only let you scan a limit of stones.”

“Okay, mum, I only installed it because it said it could identify where the stone came from,” says Lee. Sue smiles with a nod and gives Lee the stone back, then pats his head.

As Lee explores the app, he finds out that the app classifies three different levels: stone, crystal, and core. A level ten stone gets classified as a level one crystal, and level ten crystal as a level one core. This is due to the amount of energy that they emit; a stone can be used to power small devices, a crystal can be used to power a push-bike for three weeks and can be recharged, a level one core can be used to power a car’s electric system just like the batteries in a car, as for a level ten core, it can be used on a space ship.

Then looking at the stones, Lee decides to scan the stone that the wolf gave him; the results leave him speechless.

That night, Lee gets dreams about jewellery making, just like the dreams about the bows. Lee sees different hands, all male, some young, some old; in others, he even sees a metal craftsman melting iron, copper, and gold then pouring the melted metals into casts.

On Sunday as Lee wakes up, even before he opens his eyes, he feels a pressure in his head.
