Chapter 31. Fighting with daggers.

After calling her family, Gabriela decided to join the Castro family on their dinner tours. It was not everyday that you have a chance to make a restaurant tour in a city like Buenos Aires.

The conclusion was that Emilio met her husband Alberto, a middle aged man who worked in construction; and their daughter Victoria, a 15 year old girl who apparently had some interests in common with Amelia.

Milagros had sent them to a really fancy restaurant that had actually closed for the public to be able to serve them. With the amount of food they needed they were not going to be able to serve other tables. As a result, they had a feast with various dishes as they had never tried before.

Victoria and Alberto were completely astounded by the amount of food three people were able to eat and even the chef came out to verify his food was actually being eaten for real.

In the end, it was a weird night for the restaurant staff and they were going to share the story with their families for sure.

After having met, Alberto and Victoria decided to take Emilio’s offer and join in the training. Alberto because he realized the seriousness of the situation and Victoria because she was convinced by Amelia. Originally, she wanted nothing to do with training with her mother, but the girl managed to convince her.

They decided to meet up at 9 in the gym for the next morning training. By that time, Gabriela already had a new schedule organized for everyone.

The very first thing they had to do was some regular training that would teach them how to fight and, in the case of Amelia, how to shoot. That meant that they were going to continue with the same training they had done the previous day, which also meant that they were going to keep the fighting practice that was essentially Emilio being beaten up by Gabriela.

Emilio was also going to keep his training as a target for Amelia to practice her shooting, which meant being beaten up in a different sort of way. Essentially, he was in for a lot of pain that was going to allow him to improve his Skills.

For the moment they had to focus on the basics. They were fast learners, but they were still beginners and it was hard to improve at a fast rate. Luckily they were going to dedicate their whole days to training, which was going to make it faster.

At the same time, Emilio was improving really fast. Apparently, when you are being beaten up over long periods and you have to learn to prevent it, then you adapt and learn how to fight. Even more if you have someone correcting you.

Amelia was learning slower but she still tried to learn as much as she could. The problem was that she couldn't really practice with anyone because of her strength, something that limited her ability to improve faster.

On the other hand, Gabriela’s family were not beginners. Gabriela had actually taught them the bare minimum before. It was just that neither of them were really into self defense or fighting.

Either way, they had decided to go to train and they did it. Alberto’s training was just as it was expected by Gabriela, but in the case of Victoria, they actually had a surprise. She was improving much faster than what anyone expected. Almost at the same rate as Emilio, even when she was not having the harsh combats with her mother.

After some deliberation the group concluded it might have to do with her improved Mind Stat. Given what they knew about the Stat, it might be letting her understand better what was being taught and helping her detect when she did something wrong to correct herself.

It was actually a big surprise, and a good one, that it would let them learn faster. This development increased the priority on having a Mind Trial. If it really improved their learning speed then it was essential to increase it earlier.

After a few hours of training, Emilio received something he was waiting for: The dagger replicas. Mili actually sent two pairs to be able to train with his teachers. They were made of wood and were unsharpened. They were perfect for a beginner who wanted to start learning how to use them. After receiving them, Gabriela even let him wield them in his fights.

He was really excited, believing he was finally going to be able to win or, at the very least, not lose so badly. He was wrong. It took just a few exchanges to learn a harsh truth. He was actually worse at fighting with the daggers than without them.

After the worst beating of the day, Emilio was left on the floor recovering his breath and focusing on his Regeneration Skill.

“I hope you learned a lesson with this. Having weapons that you don’t know how to use is not an advantage. If they were sharpened I wouldn’t have had to do anything, you would have lost the fight just by yourself.” Gabriela explained.

“Got it, I will not wield them anymore. At least until I really learn how to use them,” Emilio answered, humbled by the experience. How could he think that using daggers was going to be easy?

“On the contrary, half of our fights will be with the daggers. They are your chosen weapons after all. Let’s just hope Rafael teaches you how to actually use those things to get an advantage with them. If you improve enough and start getting some hits on me, I might start using my gun too.”

“Won’t that be too much bullying?” Her husband asked. He was the only one of them with one Vitality. Most of the time he was recovering his stamina and watching them train.

“They were the ones who hired me to train him. Emi, do you want me to train you or be soft with you?” She asked.

“Train me” Emilio answered, while thinking he might be making a mistake with the answer. “I really hope to get a Skill to decrease my pain,” he added softly.

“Do you really think it is possible?” Alberto asked.

“Why not? Have you seen the Skills we have?” Emilio answered.

“If you get it, it will be a good Skill to have. Together with your Regeneration, it will allow me to go all out in your training,” Gabriela added.

“Weren’t you doing it either way?”

  “You wish,” Gabriela answered cryptically.
