Chapter 9: one above all

I decided to take a break. I think I’ll catch up on some of those anime series. Well, not really—modern-day anime is just an advertisement. In fact, pretty much all modern entertainment is like that. They’re not even good at hiding it anymore. At least be subtle about it!

Anyway, I guess I’ll rewatch one of those old series from the 21st century again—the ones they keep trying to ban. Let’s be honest, we always find ways around the blocks and restrictions, so their efforts are kind of pointless.

  Wait… what? Where am I?

This is one of those infinite white spaces… Is a god about to show up? Oh, looks like it’s The One Above All.

“You are an anomaly within the Multiverse. But even within the Multiverse, that’s not uncommon. You don’t follow the usual mold, after all. Anomalies like yourself tend to deviate from what is expected of them and are highly unpredictable. You could say fate doesn’t dictate your actions—but let’s be honest, fate never truly dictates anyone’s actions, only a select few moments.

However, in your case, it’s impossible to predetermine what you might do, as you're an anomaly—an existence that was never supposed to exist in the first place.”

That’s when I noticed something interesting you posted once on the forums.

What would happen if you created a Homo Deus and Soul Reaper hybrid? The Arc anime usually is the storyline of a game in most realities, but in this particular one, it seems to have become an anime instead.

And honestly? I still agree with your theory—Homo Deus seems like an incomplete or failed species. The goal was to elevate humans to a higher form, so the result of a Homo Deus should be more akin to a Soul Reaper. However, from the moment they become Homo Deus, they tend to lose their memories. Once they reach their goal, they begin to dissipate—much like how a Soul Reaper becomes part of the Soul Society after their death, with their bodies (which are their souls) dissolving into energy.

You even pointed out that with a single-minded focus on a goal and strong willpower, it was possible to extend their existence. But the fact that, after she saved the Earth, she immediately went to the colony ship and quickly replaced herself with a robot meant she realized she didn’t have much time left. Even through sheer willpower, she wasn’t able to extend her life any further. Though it does prove they were at least capable of regaining their memories and sense of self with sufficient mental stimulation. Naturally, it wasn’t difficult for me to figure out what was wrong with the incomplete Homo Deus species. So, I combined it with a soul Reaper. Unfortunately, I didn’t create a hybrid—instead, I created an entirely new race. But that was an excellent result, far more interesting than a simple hybrid.

Since you passed my test, I’m naturally going to reincarnate you on Terra—a variation of Earth where all the abnormalities go—as a new race called Diamond. But after thinking about it, I wondered if I should make Ingrams a magic-specialized race.

Oh, right! I forgot to tell you what the conditions for passing were. The first one was to reach the Grand elder level within one year. The second was to tap into a fraction of your potential. And the third was to sufficiently annoy the gods—which you succeeded in doing.

The story has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.

Wait when did I reach the grand elder level and it hasn't even been a year The One Above All simply laughs and says, "You reached the Grand Elder level some time ago. Though, I suppose I decided to mess with you a bit and make it so it wouldn’t be visible in that little status panel of yours.

As for how you haven’t noticed an entire year passing—well, I guess you just have a terrible perception of time.

I’d like to say your sense of time will improve when you become a new race in your next life—or current life, depending on how you look at things—but it’ll probably get even worse. After all, Diamonds are spiritual beings and don’t age.

Oh, and before you complain about abandoning your friends—Thirteen and your girlfriend, Queen—you should know that your relationship with Queen would have only lasted a maximum of ten years. Your friendship with Thirteen, on the other hand, would have lasted about fifty years before eventually falling apart for various reasons.

You and Queen weren’t actually compatible. In fact, you shouldn’t have ended up in a relationship at all. It was more your fear of dying alone and teenage hormones that encouraged it. Not to mention, there was a certain level of "your parents will never approve," which definitely played a role.

As for your friendship with Thirteen—well, that fell apart because Queen and Thirteen ended up together at some point. Their relationship was doomed to fail, of course. However, the real reason everything collapsed was that you found out they were secretly hooking up while you were still dating Queen. You wouldn’t have cared if they got together after you broke up, but the fact that they were sneaking around behind your back? That was the real betrayal.

Naturally, I’ll be granting you an ability called Compatibility. You’ll still be able to use magic, of course, but you’ll also have the ability to see the compatibility between people. Even with 100% compatibility, there’s no guarantee a relationship will work out, but the higher the compatibility, the more likely it is to succeed. If it’s too low, then failure is inevitable—it’s just a matter of time.

Of course, you're probably wondering how I took notice of you in the first place. Like I said, in the Multiverse, even things that are considered rare are actually quite common—after all, when you have infinity, everything eventually becomes commonplace. And that’s what the Multiverse is: infinite realities generating infinite improbable entities that shouldn’t exist. That makes them uncommon at best, but only when compared to the sheer scale of the Multiverse.

Sorry if that doesn’t make much sense to you. Anyway, this reality was only supposed to have a single timeline. Thanks to the meddling of the so-called gods of this planet, they decided to test humanity from your world to see if you were worthy of transmigrating into their world. As I’m sure you’ve already figured out those gods were and have been manipulating fate. You were actually supposed to die so people could steal some secret magic item you would have developed about 100 years from now.

But are there alternate timelines? That’s because you’re an anomaly. Even though they’re using the power of fate to try and control everything, it simply doesn’t work on you. That’s what makes an anomaly terrifying—they completely defy fate. After all, if you weren’t supposed to exist in the first place, and your very existence itself is an anomaly—one might even argue a mistake—why would the rest of your existence not continue defying fate?

That’s why I took notice of you. Something like that would only briefly catch my attention, but your post on the forums? That definitely piqued my curiosity enough to put you to the test.

As for what to call your race... how about Diamonds? I did consider Ingrams, but that’s kind of a mouthful, isn’t it?

Anyway, I should probably go ahead and upload all the information about your new race into your head.
