PoR Ch. 48

Morgan’s voice calls out, “Sorry to bother you, Arata. Today's just a bit of an important day. I talked to Madam Kovalenko about the Baker and about Clemence’s disappearance alongside Selena's corpse.”

Peace is a luxury… my slow-paced days, ironically, disappeared in a matter of minutes. Arata sighs. He knows he can't ignore this, something new was always going to be put on his plate.

Arata clears his throat, “Is there anything more to the story? Is she just going outside the city to bury Selena? It would've been what she wanted.”

To that point, Morgan decides to hand Arata a note from Clemence.

  The note reads:

“Arata, I'm sorry but I cannot tell you where I currently am but it's for an important reason. I accepted the Baker’s offer.”

“We've been working towards something… the official announcement is early evening today, held in the town square. This should deeply concern you… Don't take his offer up, stick with Morgan's camp.”

Why would she join but dissuade me from joining… the Baker, he gives me a bad feeling. Arata looks at the note. He begins to gather some heat in his hands, burning up the paper.

“I hope you’ve remembered it well, just in case I figured it’s be good to get rid of.” Arata explains, his face still pale with shock. Later today? There’s probably gonna be no way to reach her until then either-

Ravenna leans over Arata’s shoulder, “Hey? Shouldn’t Morgan have a clue what’s going on? She’s got some influence in this town?”

Didn’t sound like it, but it’s worth a shot… “Hey, Morgan, got any idea what the Baker is up to? I don’t know much about him and the political state of Basin City. Why don’t you sit next to me for a second?”

You could be reading stolen content. Head to Royal Road for the genuine story.

Morgan sighs, pausing for a second, there was no answer to give to Arata. Morgan lets out a sigh, “The baker’s moves are unpredictable… I’ll just stick to the political state question. Basin city borders the Great Forest. The territory is home to fairies, elves and other spirits… mana-rich but that hardly matters to anyone nearby it. The demon lord uses it as a combat outpost. It’s his foothold in New Mundi. Yet our city isn’t that advantageous to attack, so no problems have arisen in the past.”

Beelzebub… the people are no in fear, why would Beelzebub attack though? Besides Beelzebub was alone- Physiological warfare maybe? Arata had always felt like an outsider to this city. Usually, that made things seem more complicated.

Yet, as someone who had no life to fear for nor threat of his country falling he was very much aware. “They want us to attack the forest, you said majority of this city’s military had left. Yet, they seemingly want to lure out the rest of the soldiers. Who are they trying to lure out…”

Arata stood there for a moment trying to prove his theory. Likely suspects… I can only think of two. No, Beelzebub was surprised by Rachamah, they wouldn’t have initially come here for her. What’s more is that they probably feel like they’ve got a different threat to worry about now. That just leaves the Baker, why though? Why bother luring him? They could’ve easily wiped out this city a long time ago without needing to go through unnecessary steps?

Ravenna sneaks up behind Arata, “There’s someone you’re forgetting… other worlders like yourself have a reputation. You watch isekai, tell me when was the last time a native of that world proved to be a threat to the demon lord?”

Do they know I’m from another world? No, Beelzebub was surprised, sucking out my mana did nothing… does that imply?

“Morgan- I have a confession to make. I’m not from this world… I was sent here from another world. I never told anyone because I wasn’t sure I wanted to or if anyone would believe me.” Arata confesses.

Morgan lets out a deep sigh, making Arata worried if he said something stupid, “No need, that was always a theory in my mind… good thing you kept quiet about that actually. When we first met, you were an amnesiac who knew nothing of the world, nor did you give us any info about your past. Despite all of that, you killed that bug monster. It tracks with your behavior.”

Morgan continues, “You’re not the only case of someone from another world- there has been a hero in the past and may as well be one right now. Yet such information hasn’t been revealed, it’s only speculation.”
