PoR Ch. 43

Arata pauses before deciding to open the door for Morgan. She also seems to have some questions.

Arata tries to explain, opening the front door, “She’s not home right now. Did you need anything from her?”

Morgan looks on with suspicion, “Why’d you come back here… I thought you were strangers with her. Only seeing her once when we went out drinking.”

I'm not sure if I should tell Morgan about the ripping with Rachamah yet. Arata is left silent, trying to think of something to say.

“I'm good at remembering people. I’ve been in this town for a short while, remember, I've acquainted myself with some of the people here.” Arata goes on to explain, not exactly a lie, yet only a half-truth.

Morgan lets out a sigh, “Sorry if I come off as skeptical sometimes… I don't mean to sound distrusting of others but I can't help it. I was like that when we first met as well. The Baker is planning something, I don't know if you caught word yet.”

That guy, Allen Baker, probably has some things to address after that attack. It's not a good day for him.

“Our current situation against the demon Lord's army is unsustainable. The recent attack of Beelzebub is proof of that. There's a planned assault on the sacred forest, the demon Lord's closest center of power on the peninsula.” Morgan explains.

After giving Arata some time to process their words, Morgan continues, “I want you to join my squad, Arata. You're not that experienced, but you’ll have a month to train. I will be your sword instructor and you’ll become my squire.”

“Deal. When do we start?” Arata quickly states.

No questions needed… I was gonna go anyway but I don't trust the Baker quite yet, just something about him. Morgan’s a knight too, must have some money. All the same strengths really but with a more familiar person, even if I haven't seen their face.

Morgan nods, “Very well… we start tomorrow, should I meet you at Madam Kovalenko’s?”

If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.

“No, meet me here, Rachael lent me this place while she was out of town,” Arata explains in a barely believable manner.

Morgan raises their eyebrow, clearly skeptical of Arata's claims. Yet learning from her past attitude, decides to leave it.

Morgan sighs, “I suppose so, alright, I shall meet you back here again. Intially we had lended the place to the kid… she came from overseas, it's the only time I think anyone has ever done that, I'm glad she's making good use of it.”

Arata nods as Morgan departs back to their own personal matters. Arata begins to get himself moved in; luckily, he has very few belongings to his name. He decides to summon Ravenna too, needing to make some more money.

  One month to train…

“Oh? Arata, I was just watching you read Rachamah’s letter. Are you worried about it?” Ravenna questions him.

“Hey, gambling first, thinking later. Let's double our money at the blackjack table.” Arata commands.

Ravenna was about to protest but she still wanted Arata to buy her more food; she followed him.

Arata makes his way inside, yet someone saw him coming; a buff bald man, well over six feet, stares down on him.

The man speaks, “Get out den sweeper… you’re banned from this establishment.”

Den sweeper? What are they talking about? Arata steps away, looking puzzled by his rejection.

“The dens in this city have their own network Arata… we might have cheated a few too many out of their cash,” Ravenna says, sadness in her voice.

Arata goes to another just to be turned away, again and again. No place is willing to let him bet money.

I guess I can't avoid thinking anymore. Fine you shitty isekai, have it your way!

“Ravenna, is there any way I could travel to the theater myself, without dying? I need to check some things.” Arata looks at her in deep thought.

Demiurge Foundry produced incredible results against a stronger opponent… however, I feel my application is limiting it and my swordsmanship.

Ravenna thinks a little, “I can try and pull you back, hold my hand and pray to be sent back there.”

Arata feels his eyes close, holding out Ravenna’s hand. When he awakes again, he is met with the same dimly lit theater he is familiar with. More lights come on as Ravenna walks up towards the stage.

“Ravenna, I need to see progress with my prowess using Demiurge Foundry. Whenever I fight, I always feel like I'm underpowered and on the backpedal.” Arata says in deep thought, in total he remembered the bugs when he first arrived, the baku, the knight Selena, Cayden and Beelzebub. Even if he had multiple chances to beat them, he relied too heavily on luck.
