Chapter 18

It was his first year at kai academy. He had been there for a few months. Tensions had risen that morning because of a threat that appeared. It read ‘Prepare for vengeance. This world is unjust. 6 hours. -Ren’ Normally Draken would be the one to handle it but he wasn't available. He was on a trip.

The school had been preparing and he was going to attack in just ten minutes. They were preparing everything. The kai users part of the kai academy system had all been out so only school staff and the students had been there.

“Sirius. While you're strong, you should stay back. You're inexperienced and Ren is a dangerous foe.” Braz told him.

“I need to be on the field. If they're risking their lives then I need to as well.” Sirius replied.

“No. You'll stay here. No one here could contend with him one on one.” Braz said sternly.

Maddison and Mason walked into the room.

“Braz. We chose the black dragon claw for you. It'll give you a better chance for good items and have more clones. Sirius, you'll be on our back lines.” Maddison said as Mason set the claw on the desk near them.

They both exit and leave the teacher and his students alone.

“You need to stay back. Protect your first year classmates. The other classes and staff will be protecting the school. Now where is that damn claw?” He looks around for a few seconds then grabs it and leaves the class.

“We should be out there, helping.” Violua told his classmates.

“We can't.” Pomlh interjected. “I looked at Ren's file. He has kai property, S+ stats around the board, and a summoning vessel that's well off on strength. We can't beat him.”

He set up a deck of cards and offered a game to Reeve while placing twenty dollars in the middle of the table

“So then how are they going to defeat him?” Reeve asked as he accepted the game.

  Braz lagged behind the principals.

“Where is he supposed to show?” Braz asked them.

“The sparring area. It's wide open and is made for fighting.” Maddison answered.

“I can't even believe he actually exists. I thought he was a made up tale, the walking myth.” Mason told Braz.

They finally arrived at the sparring area and saw a man with a number one tattoo on the back of his right hand. He wore a black coat with blood red shoulder bearings. His fur robe and cape covered the outside of him, it shielded his back from prying eyes. Armor hid underneath the finely made robe. His pointed and red mask, cut in half only revealing the top of his face.

Sirius and his class watched from the camera on the table in the class with them. A judge summoning vessel twice his size acted as a bodyguard behind Ren.

“This school will pay for its sins.” He declared, facing the principals.

The kai tool teacher, Gail, arose to the challenge first. Her smooth caramel brown skin reflected the sunlight, while it slid across her brown eyes beautifully. Her long brown hair was in a bun to not weaken her fighting capabilities.

She began spinning her kai tools. She had made a combination of the Kinetic flail and the Chain of Heaven and Hell by taking the end off the flail and replacing it with the chain, making a lethal combination.

“There are no sins to punish here.” She said as she rushed at him.

Her kai tool had gained enough energy that she could slice through a normal person with speed alone, in her mind it was sure to damage him with just the flail, mixed with the chain, she had no doubt it could cause serious injuries. She aimed it right at him and released the energy from the kai tool.

“Hell!” She yelled and the chain turned red hot.

The Hell version of the chain will melt right through him at this speed. She thought as it raised in temperature. It swung at him and closed in on his right side. He grabbed the chain before it hit him and yanked her closer with it. His skin barely even singed. The judge grabbed her by the leg and flung her out of the area. The third year students charged at Ren and surrounded him.

“Ultimate craft output!” One of them yelled out.

The third year smugly smiled. His light brown skin bounced the light from the sun wonderfully, reflecting his confidence.

“You're now going at .1x your normal speed. You've got no chance against us when you're that slow.” He taunted.

“You really should have researched your judge.” Ren replied.

Even through the time manipulation, he was able to speak just fine. The third year student's cockyness wore down and his eyes widened slightly. A gas released from Ren's mask.

“You, and the rest of the third year students, let innocent people die rather than saving them to kill a kai bane or kai manipulator.” He stated.

The third year started sweating from the use of his kraft attempting to slow something so much more powerful than him.

“You've been newly appointed the position of S rank due to that kai calamity you defeated downtown, right?” Ren asked with a slightly menacing undertone.

“That's correct.” The third year replied, The sweat had become much more apparent.

“Did you realize that 267 regular people died in that fight? Granted 12 of those weren't preventable, but the other 255 were because of your decision to kill the kai calamity rather than saving innocents from it's attack.” Ren's voice became much more grave.

The gas had reached the third year and he felt it harder to breathe.

“They were necessary casualties! What are you doing! Attack him!” He yelled to the other third years.

“We can't. I feel too terrified to even breath, let alone move.” One of them said.

As she said that, the third year Ren had his sight on felt the kai that Ren had been holding back, it came out like an ocean in being held behind a dam made of thin branches.

“Those ‘casualties’ had families to go back to. Friends. You took that away from them, just to kill a threat that would've been dealt with by the back up 3 miles away. You don't deserve to be a kai user, you don't even deserve to live. None of the 3rd years do” Ren told him as the gas lit on fire, killing the third years in an explosion.

It created a crater in the sparring area. The principals charged in. A thick purple smog surrounded Ren. He couldn't see through it, and could barely hear as well.

“You 2 are even worse.” Ren stated.

A Shockwave disrupted the area. An attempt to knock Ren off his balance that failed. Mason threw a punch at Ren's jaw. Left. Ren dodged left and grabbed the fist that headed for him. The judge grabbed Mason by the stomach and tore his legs off. Maddison came in for a blindside hit, completely ignoring her twin. Right. Ren dodged the attack.

The judge threw Mason to the side and used an absolute haymaker on Maddison. Her skin solidified to block it but it just kept her barely conscious. She was tossed across the area, laid out completely. Braz went in for an attack. The claw allowed him to use his kraft even better. He created ten thousand clones. Each one reached to its right and pulled out a sword.

“You will not harm any more of these students.” Braz told him.

“I won't kill any that don't deserve it.” Ren said as the judge pummeled the closest Braz.

All that was left of Braz was a blood splatter.

“I would like to spare you. You have the heart for my desire, but you would sacrifice civilians to save a student of yours.”

Ren looked at all the Brazs.

“Kai tool utilization is illegal.” He uttered.

All of the Brazs but fifty disappear. Forty nine were by Ren, the last was far away and writhing in pain. Him. Ren swiped a katana from the nearest braz then slaughtered the forty nine around him. The real one turned around to face his students for what he assumed was the last time. He saw Sirius's kai growing. Ren raised his katana then with blinding speed sliced through Braz's neck.

“Braz…” Sirius said under his breath.

  “Sirius don't.” Pomlh told him.

Sirius's kai grew, encased the room and made the school shake. After just seconds the city started, then the country. Moments after Braz's look the country simulated an earthquake originating from Sirius.

“Ares.” He muttered coldly as he blasted a kai output shot at the wall.

The wall turned to ash and Sirius walked through it. He then seemingly appeared next to Braz's body. He picked up the headless corpse. Ren started releasing the gas.

“You will die for this.” He announced gravely.

Sirius dropped Braz and the head just outside of the area. Something split from Sirius.

“Just who I wanted to see one of the only people on earth who could possibly challenge me.”

His kai is flickering. Sirius ran up to him and threw a hard punch at Ren. Right. The blow sent him flying back a few feet. That raw strength, he's using his kraft. Sirius immediately followed with three hits to the chest, each one stunning Ren. Right. Right. Left. The judge blocked a fourth throw but it was no use. Foward.

  “Kai rupture!”

The vessel was sent into Ren, both flying out of the area the size of a small town. He's that worked up over Braz? Perfect. The judge stayed in one piece, only due to it being hard to hit and Ren pouring kai into it last second. The gas lit up and caused an explosion, this time imbued with kai and a lot more gas.

The explosion tore up the entire area. Sirius rushed at Ren with only a few bruises and burn marks. Debris fell from the sky and Ren hurled them at Sirius. He only dodged two before a third hit Sirius. It gave him just enough of an opening to allow a combo and spew more gas from the mask. Each hit from Ren was decaying Sirius's body. Ren had a necrotic kai property that allowed him to decay things on touch.

An explosion to hurt and stun him, then debris to distract and have a ranged arsenal. The destroyed environment is sure to take him off balance. He's inexperienced and I can use the time to catch him in my combo and destroy his body with my kai property at the same time. The poisonous gas is getting to him, he's going to lose. I bet his next move is going to be using some strength to get me off him for even just a second then use a big attack. I'll counter.

“Your lack of experience is going to cost you the fight. You should have utilized the debris yourself rather than dodging. Because of this you gave me the opening to destroy you.” He informed in between each hit.

As Ren finished talking Sirius mumbled something. Even with his skin and muscles being destroyed, he still managed to whisper the words thunderbolt. Zeus’ thunderbolt struck the middle of Ren's body and caused him to stop attacking. Sirius choked on the gas but still persevered, going for another strike on Ren.

The gas exploded once again, this time even more powerful but in a focused location so it was entirely on Sirius. The little left of his skin was blown away. He threw the thunderbolt at Ren then used mending kai style to heal himself. Left. Ren barely dodged out of the way and went back on the assault.

“Kai…Release. The gods’ dominion.” Sirius said.

He formed a circle with his index finger and thumb on both hands, then stuck the rest up and put both of them together. A sphere was created around them. Sirius and Ren were put on top of Mount Olympus with the Greek gods surrounding them. Ren opened his kai release in response.

  “Kai release. The judges’ watch.”

The gods and mountain vanished and another sphere merged with Sirius's to fight for dominance. Sirius recalled the thunderbolt from behind Ren. Behind. Ren can't react in time due to the speed of the bolt.

  “Should've kept aware.” Sirius whispered.

Ren gets sliced in half the long way. Blood gushed from his body and splattered onto Sirius. His kai release took over from Ren being unable to keep up from the weapon. Zeus aimed at Ren then turned him to ash. His kai release was also dismantled shortly after.

The shaking around the country had eased up from the fight. Sirius dashed over to Braz's corpse. Asclepius, the god that had split off from him had been preserving the body as much as he could. Sirius grabbed Braz's head and body then used mending kai style output to connect them and barely resurrect him with Asclepius’ help.

“It's shoddy work, I know, but you live on. I think that scar will stay though.” Sirius said with a slight smile as he pointed to the barely moving Braz's neck.

Braz has the Durakai bloodline trait that allows him to get kai crafts from both parents’ souls at birth. However he is born with the souls from them because of it, one of the souls is his own, his main soul, the second is a soul that sits in the back that gives him a second personality.
