Chapter 34: Thirst for Knowledge

Later, when Alex asked Tom what [Thirst for Knowledge] felt like when combined with [Visions of Akashic Records], his only response was that it felt like having his brains smashed out by a slice of lemon wrapped around a large gold brick. His mind was flooded with more information than it could possibly handle. His hands smacked into the side of his head as if his hands could somehow stop his head from exploding.

Tom stopped digging through Sam's metadata. He was actually a bit disturbed at how much more information he could pull out of Sam alone. The worst part was the fact that the skill force-fed the information into his head. He didn't read the information. He just remembered something he hadn't known before. There were pages about everything, mental status, physical status. The system even kept a log of everything they had done since the system started, and it had a live feed of what she was seeing, hearing, feeling, smelling, and even tasting in real-time. And then there was the blinding headache along with the list of notifications.

"You ok, kid?" Chester asked as he placed a hand on his shoulder to steady him.

"Yeah, I'm fine, just skill feedback," Tom muttered.

He didn't bother to use [Thirst for Knowledge] on Chester. That would be too painful as he pushed the darker implications of why the system had all this information aside as he focused on what was immediately important.

"You two have the Bloodline of the Ursa Nox? It's not bad for a rogue or druid build. But I didn't know you played Legend of Noralon." Tom said, testing the waters, hoping that what he had seen was wrong.

"Legend of what?" Sam asked, confused, causing Tom to be confused.

"Okay, how did you two get the bloodline?" Tom asked, cutting to the heart of the issue.

"We woke up to the system notification, and it told us about our bloodline," Sam said with a shrug.

Tom felt his mind churn at the news. It wasn't just Sam who had a bloodline; her whole family line probably had the same bloodline. Or maybe someone in her family did play the Legend of Noralon, and the system propagated his bloodline to his family like his bloodline had been propagated to Chloe. No, even if that were true, they would have picked up a legendary bloodline, not a historic rarity bloodline, which left just one terrible possibility.

Bloodlines were already a thing before the system showed up. That meant that anyone could have a bloodline. Which meant anyone could have a crap bag of skills, and unless he used [Thirst for Knowledge], he wouldn't know.

  "Are you ok?" Sam asked

"Yep," Tom said. I just realized that anyone on the planet could have a bloodline, and I'm going to have to look out for them." Tom said as he clutched his head, casting mend to try and heal the damage.

Tom wanted to kick himself. How could he have missed the possibility? Worse, he missed it twice with Luke but overlooked the fact because he hated Luke. Great, that's another thing to watch out for on top of the other beta-testers' random bloodlines. Demigods. The list was just getting bigger.

"Is this a problem?" Sam asked nervously.

Tom put his head in his hands as he felt a migraine coming on. "No, I just realized that now I'm going to have to watch for people with bloodline. Fuck."
