"Thanks for the help." Bryan passed by the two security guards who were chilling in the lobby watching a show.
"Huh!" The younger security guard frowned while straining his neck to look backwards, clearly he didn't recognize the same person which he personally helped and was riding in the elevator with him three hours earlier but he attributed this weird situation of being unable to remember who this complete stranger is and why is he being so sociable towards them to the timing of their encounter which is at the tail end of his shift and maybe he's just cking sleep, "Sir. Please wait, who ar-" However, he decided to follow the obligations of his job and to confirm Bryan's identity.
Yet much to the younger security guard's surprise, he was pulled back to his seat by his own partner and the older security guard's hand fell on his shoulders while saying : "Calm down Matt, he's clear."
"Wha-" Matt tried to protest for this clear viotion of the regutions.
"Sorry sir. He didn't get any shut-eye for almost twenty hours, have a nice day." The older security guard said after giving Matt a severe gre which meant : 'You better shut the fuck up before you get both of us in trouble!' Which worked just fine since Matt took the hint but his eyes kept going back and forth between this stranger and his partner while struggling to solve the mystery of this complete stranger.
Bryan gave them a sunny smile then waved while saying : "I understand. Matt was just doing his job and no one can bme him for it, he needs to work on his observation abilities though." Then left the building.
"Old Tim. Who was that guy? And what did he mean by that?" Matt asked with doubt dripping from his words, clearly his questions need immediate answers or this incident is certainly going to be reported to the head-administrator of the security team once their shift ends in less than thirty minutes.
*Sigh*
Tim released a stifled breath while rolling his eyes at Matt then smacked him on the back of the head while saying : "Didn't you just hear what he said?"
Matt's frown deepened and gred at his partner while rubbing his scalp, "Some nonsense about observation abilities!"
"That's two of one, now what's left?" Tim asked while shaking his head and rexing on the chair.
"Uh... thanks for the hel-" Matt's eyes widened and he was jolted from his seat by the mindboggling realization which hit him like a ton of bricks, "No way! That's impossible!"
Tim put on of his legs on the table and rexed on the arm-rest with his cheek on his palm, "Exactly. You're just new in this kind of job and are not experienced enough that's all, if you put one and one together you would've identified him much quicker but don't be too hard on yourself because I didn't recognize him in the beginning since when he came in his voice was so deep and gruff as if it's coming from a deep well."
Matt fell back on his chair once again but this time his face was so pale as if he just saw a ghost, "T-then how did you know that's him?" He asked then snatched a bottle of water.
"While you was too preoccupied by your suspicions and blinded by your instinctive impulses to strictly question a person which you deemed a complete stranger and trying to identify him." Tim spoke unhurriedly but he was taking this opportunity to teach his partner as best as he can, or maybe he was just trying to spend the dullest time of the shift doing something both useful and interesting in the same time.
"I was able to get a better look at him while keeping my own personal inclinations and any sort of biased judgement out of the way.
"And the first thing I saw once I did my best to ignore his too damn annoying face was his sweaty clothes which looked familiar but the physique of the person himself didn't match with the one I had in mind.
"So... I had to look down for the final location which I might have any piece of information left to work with and there I found a matching shoes.
"Now when I added the incident that followed after the person I had in mind to the information I had, I was more than eighty percent sure that he's the same guy which made me look back up at his face.
"Specifically the eye-color, the nose, the ears, but the skin color was a bit different though!"
"Wait, wait, wait... What incident?" Matt asked once he saw old Tim turning to watch the show as if he had nothing else to say to him, but no matter how insulting it felt to look like a complete idiot he still had to get that answer.
*Sigh*
Tim released another sigh, "Don't tell me that you already forgot about the young dy! The coach who came down asking questions about him then went to pay Bobby a visit in the security footage room.
"That's why the young man said that you need to work on your observation skills, listen... this job might pay us well to live but it doesn't pay us well to die!
"We're not special investigators or detectives. Hell, we're not even regur police officers.
"The type of firepower we carry is a joke and the sooner you realize it the better, I'm not telling you to sck or be zy in your job or anything like that but what I'm trying to say is... even when you're dealing with criminals trying to rob the pce with machine guns, remember to always stay calm and keep your emotions hidden behind a straight and professional face.
"Do your best to join the ride while making sure to keep yourself and as much as possible of the people in your surroundings safe while finding a chance to notify the authorities without alerting the bad guys.
"However if your cooperative and submissive attitude gives you a window to take the bad guys out without compromising the safety of the people you're responsible for their protection then... you better not hesitate in taking it before that window is closed.
"Still take this advice from someone who once lost a partner in a reckless and silly attempt of being the hero, forget about looking for that window because even the most sloppy among criminals can smell a scheme from a mile away and it's a shitty idea to tempt fate.
"If you're lucky that window would come but otherwise our win is keeping people alive and our goal is to live another day."
Matt stayed silent for a few minutes after Tim stopped speaking, his eyes were gzed and the mood was so heavy and dismal until he opened his mouth to say : "I still can't wrap my head around how did his body change so much in such a short time span? He really looked like a completely different person!"
Tim shrugged, "That one is a mystery to me too but, according to you he was already very strong since he could carry all that stuff while looking like a living skeleton. Maybe he used whatever he brought with him to get rid of his medical condition! Who knows?" He said while munching on some snacks.
"That doesn't expin anything though."
"Do you think I don't know how hard it is to grow muscles? Why don't you get off my back and do something about that mystery? It only takes a ride in the elevator then you can ask them what happened up there?" Tim was quite annoyed because honestly even he was feeling quite the headache whenever he tried to find a reasonable answer for that question.
Matt squinted his eyes then leaned closer and whispered : "Maybe the training facility and the different services of that gym are that good."
Tim covered his face with both hands, "Oh my god... why do I feel like I'm getting stupid by just talking to you?" He said before getting up and walking towards the door then opening it before walking outside to get some fresh air while adding : "Thankfully this shift is almost about to end."
Seconds after he walked outside the building Tim heard the elevator's tune and once he looked to check who's coming down he saw a familiar face and greeted her politely : "Thanks for your hard work dy Celest, allow me walk you to your car." He helped her carry her gym bag.
"I'm sorry if I was a bit harsh on you earlier uncle Tim, I trust that you and your partners would make sure to keep what happened today confidential since it's reted to an extremely important VIP client of our brand and the situation is quite sensitive and requires all of us to handle it with extreme care." Celest apologized first before stressing the importance of privacy on this topic while opening the door of her car and getting in.
"You have my word that the three of us would forget all about it once we get some sleep," Tim smiled comfortingly, "You take care now, and please drive safe." Then opened the back door and put her bag on the back seat.
*Sigh*
For the third time Tim released another sigh from his stifled chest while walking back from the garage towards the door of this building while thinking to himself : 'He really is a VIP yet his attitude really doesn't match the members of the higher css at all but why do I even care? I better get myself to bed quickly before I lose my mind thinking about it... you no longer carry a badge.'
