Interlude: The Magikarp Diaries - Entry 1

  Journal Entry: “Magikarp Diaries”

  Day 1 Summary

  Date: 20XX

  Location: Lumora City, Starlight Heights

So… I survived my first day at Lumora’s Academy for Excellence. Barely.

Let’s break it down, Izzy-style: Picture it. A sprawling campus that looks more like a Pokémon League HQ than a school, with its shiny floors, way-too-fancy architecture, and students who seem to have their shit together. Everyone’s got their perfect VireBand setups, pristine uniforms, and that smug, “I’m totally going to make Champion by the time I’m eighteen” energy.

And then there’s me. Isabelle Moreau, professional flopper in a pond of Gyarados.

Amélie Lévesque: My first (and possibly only?) friend here. She’s like if sunshine became a person. Loud, bubbly, and effortlessly charming. She dragged me all over Lumora after school, showing off the Neon District like she owned the place. Part of me wonders why someone like her even bothered with someone like me, but she makes it… easier. Like the world isn’t as loud when she’s around.

Milo Tanner: Quiet, nerdy, and somehow knows everything about battles. He’s the type who can probably recite every Pokémon type matchup in his sleep. Amélie introduced me to him, and he seems nice enough—though I’m still not sure if I’m supposed to feel inspired or intimidated by his encyclopedic brain.

Colby Ferris (a.k.a. “Kerplunk Guy”): Oh Arceus. Where do I even start? Glow Dome’s reigning champ for three weeks, he talks like a brain-damaged Chatot and has the energy of six cans of PokéBoost. Watching him was like being trapped in a meme that’s become self-aware. But hey, his Salamence is impressive.

This tale has been unlawfully obtained from Royal Road. If you discover it on Amazon, kindly report it.

Veyron Lux (The Silent Strategist): Then there’s this guy. He doesn’t talk, doesn’t pose, doesn’t even acknowledge the crowd—but somehow, everyone’s obsessed with him. Even I can’t stop thinking about how he just walked into the Glow Dome and completely wrecked Colby like it was nothing. It’s infuriating, really. There’s something about him that feels… off. Like he knows something the rest of us don’t.

  The Highlights:

School: Didn’t trip over my words in biology. Didn’t cry in math. Didn’t pass out in history. Win.

Glow Dome: Watching Veyron sweep the floor with Colby was equal parts inspiring and terrifying. The guy’s Gallade fought like a knight straight out of some Kalosian fairytale. It was… something.

Neon District: Amélie dragged me through the Neon District, and holy shit, that place is a sensory overload. Everything glows. Everything screams. Everything costs way more than it should. It’s both ridiculous and kind of amazing.

The Lowlights: I hate how small I feel in this city. Lumora is so… big. Loud. Intense. It’s like the whole place is daring me to keep up, and I can barely even catch my breath.

Watching the battles at the Glow Dome stirred something in me. I didn’t want it to, but it did. Seeing how people connect with their Pokémon in ways that feel larger than life—it made me wonder if I could do that, too. And that scares me.

  I feel like I don’t belong. Like I’m just… flopping around, hoping I won’t drown.

Goals for Tomorrow (Ha, Yeah Right)...

  1. Survive another day of school.

  2.
  3. Don’t let Amélie drag me into another spontaneous adventure.

  4.
  5. Figure out what the hell I’m even doing here.

  6.
  7. Maybe—maybe—think about talking to someone about this weird idea of starting a Pokémon journey.

  8.

I don’t know what I’m supposed to do next. The League Circuit starts in two weeks, and everyone seems to have their path figured out. Meanwhile, I’m here, a Magikarp with zero splash damage.

Still, even Magikarps can swim up waterfalls, right? Or so the legends say.

Here’s hoping this useless flopper figures it out before she sinks.
