Lois completely understood my stance on how my teacher, my friends in css, and my school had failed me. Unfortunately, she reminded me that if I quit Shiketsu Academy, after already being kicked out of UA, that would be two hero schools that I hadn't completed. I griped and groused about it for a good ten minutes before she calmed me down in her usual way.
After my first load down her throat, Lois sat beside me on the couch and we pnned out exactly how I was going to handle going back to school after the summer break. We would file for a css transfer from Miss Aiga's to one of the other csses.
If that was refused, we could file for a grade advancement exception and to take the pcement tests to move up into the next grade. We would include my perfect scores from the mid-term tests and from the UA entrance exam, which I wrote out and included as an unofficial copy, since I recreated it from memory.
If that was also refused, which we suspected they would do to try and cover up how much they had screwed up with me, then I would agree to attend the css under protest and wouldn't participate in anything until the provisional license exams at the start of the school year in September, do the required work pcement after that, and then I could quit school officially.
If there was still a problem with my taking the provisional exam without the school's backing or approval, then I would contact Rachel, Endeavor's secretary, and get their Hero Agency's recommendation. If that wasn't enough, then I'd call in the big guns and get All Might to help. There would be no way for anyone to stop me from becoming a hero after we did all of that.
I thanked Lois for her help and she kissed me goodbye before going to work. The house became very quiet with only me there and I sighed, took an instant shower, and changed into my normal clothes. I left a note for Lois to tell her where I was, took the OMAC device I had built using Mei's pns, and put it in my backpack.
I jogged to the train station and waited for the right train and rode it for several hours to take me to the right neighborhood that was along The Fming Sidekick's patrol route. When I arrived at the pyground, it was completely empty. It took me a moment to remember that all the schools were out for the summer and I spped myself on the forehead. Dory wasn't going to be there at the school's pyground for another couple of weeks.
“Dammit, I should have thought this through first.” I said and sighed. I had spent all that time getting here to spend a few hours with her, only to find out it was a huge waste of time. Just as I turned around to head back to the station, a little girl's voice called out.
“CONNOR!” Dory yelled and I turned back around to see the little girl jumping excitedly and she held the hand of a surprised woman. “See? SEE? I told you he'd be here!”
The woman sighed and gave her daughter a deadpan look. “You've said that every week for the st three weeks.”
I had to ugh at that and walked over to them. “I was at the I-Expo helping Lois Lane report on it and I only just got back from a week's vacation.”
“THAT WAS YOU?” Dory yelled.
“Yeah, I held the camera.” I said and knelt on a knee with my arms spread.
“EEE!” Dory squealed and jumped into my arms and tried to hug me, only her mother hadn't let her other hand go. “MOOOOOOOOM!”
The woman sighed and let her hand go.
Dory gave me a proper hug around the neck and squeezed me really tightly. “I missed you so much!”
“I missed you, too.” I said, truthfully. “I came all this way just to visit you and I completely forgot you'd be out of school like I was.”
Dory giggled. “You're so silly, Connor!”
I ughed and stood with her in my arms. “I know. I didn't get a clue until I saw the completely empty pyground. Did you see me sp my own face?”
Dory giggled and nodded. “Mom said it must have been a bug or something.”
“You're a bug in my head?” I asked jokingly and she ughed. “Well, you're here and I'm here, so we better get to pying.”
“Okay!” Dory said and wiggled out of my arms and dropped to the ground. She grabbed my hand and pulled me over to the pyground. “We can do the slide first and then the merry-go-round and then the monkey bars and then the swing and then the slide upside down as long as you catch me because doing that without you there is too dangerous.”
We both heard a soft ugh from her mother and ignored it, because we had some serious pytime to get to. It was surprisingly fun, since neither Izuku nor I could py like this when we were kids. We were too busy avoiding the bullies and being called quirkless freaks to actually enjoy our childhoods like a kid should have.
I kept her mother in sight, just in case. She watched me like a hawk, as if she thought I was going to do something to her daughter. I was, just not anything like she suspected. Little girls were cute, boisterous, and precocious. They wore their emotions on their sleeves and Dory was at the age that she held nothing back.
Her ugh was unrestricted, she enjoyed pying to its fullest extent, and even being told she couldn't see her favorite future hero as much as she wanted, didn't get her down. She was old enough to understand that things changed and she accepted that I would visit her when I could.
When the time to py was over, Dory waved for me to kneel and she hugged me tightly and kissed my cheek. Her mother looked scandalized by that and looked like she was straining to not smack me upside the head for letting her 8 year old daughter do that.
Dory whispered a goodbye and that she would see me ter, which by the intense look on her mother's face, wasn't going to happen. I wasn't sure what I had done to make her think I would do anything untoward to the cute little girl, though. But, I was smart enough to not ask for her st name or her phone number.
When I promised I would see her again eventually, her mother gave me a death gre worthy of the Grim Reaper. Instead of reacting like she thought, I thanked her for helping her daughter have another fun day with me, since she was my very first personal rescue and she deserved to be happy.
The woman didn't respond and walked away with Dory's hand csped in hers. The little girl waved happily at me with her free hand, since the entire silent exchange had gone right over her head. I waved back and watched as they walked all the way to the end of the block and then they took the corner and went out of sight.
I checked my cell phone and the time, then jogged over to Endeavor's Hero Agency. I arrived just before the evening shift change and Saida's wide eyes saw me enter. She opened her mouth to shout, probably to get my attention, and she stopped when Sarah's hand touched her arm and gained her attention instead.
“Go grab us both supper from the cafeteria.” Sarah ordered and Saida nodded, gave me a forlorn look, then she walked away with her head down.
“Thanks.” I said when I approached the receptionist's desk.
“You're welcome, Connor.” Sarah said. “Just so you know, she thought the teacher called you and she feels really bad about not telling you about the camp being cancelled.”
“It wasn't cancelled, only the location was changed. Most of the students at my school couldn't afford to cancel the reservations at the original accommodations and also book st minute rooms at the new pce, so they all decided to cancel the trip and no one told me about it.” I said and she looked shocked. “I showed up for the trip the morning we were supposed to board the buses and saw the notice on the school's front door.”
“Oh, no.” Sarah whispered with a hand over her mouth. “I'm so sorry...”
I knew then she had formed an unfavorable opinion about my reaction, since she had only heard one side of the story and about me giving my cssmates the cold shoulder. “It doesn't really matter now. I still went to the resort after getting there on my own and had a great week. It wasn't until I came home that I heard about the attack at the camp I should have been at and saw what happened.”
Sarah's shocked look faded and I saw the realization on her face when she thought about me being at the camp and how I would have stopped the vilins from kidnapping one of the students and possibly saving the two that had been killed. They had only captured a few of the vilins that had remained behind to let the others escape with their intended target.
“Is Rachel free?” I asked. “I need to ask her for a favor.”
“Give me a moment to check.” Sarah said and picked up the desk phone and hit the internal code for Rachel's desk. She turned her back to me and started whispering into the receiver, as if she could hide what she was doing from me, with me standing right there.
I easily heard her asking if Rachel wanted to see me or if I should be turned away. I felt immense relief when Rachel warmly said to send me right up. I hid my reaction when Sarah agreed and put the receiver down and turned to face me again.
“You can go right up. She's waiting for you at her desk.” Sarah told me.
“Thanks.” I said and walked over to the elevator and hit the button.
I had to wait for about 30 seconds for it to arrive and then I had to hold in my ugh when the doors opened and Fire was there with Burnin. The two women looked like they had been arguing heatedly and I mentally admonished myself for the pun.
“Ladies.” I said and stepped into the elevator car. The two of them looked startled at seeing me and both of them had their fmes die down to almost nothing. I held the door open button to stop it from closing. “If you're going to meet your teams to eat, you need to step out.”
The both of them jumped slightly, then nodded and walked out. Burnin walked with purpose towards the cafeteria and Fire stopped and turned to look at me.
“I'm just visiting. I'm not hired or on another work pcement.” I said, just so she wouldn't get the wrong impression.
Fire nodded and I let the door button go and hit the door close button. The elevator rose to the top floor where Endeavor's office was and I walked over to Rachel's desk. The sultry smile she gave me made me hard immediately, which she easily noticed.
Rachel's smile changed to a smirk as she met my eyes again. “What can I do for you, Connor?”
“Unfortunately, as disappointing as it is, I'm here for business.” I said with a crooked smile.
Rachel let out a soft ugh at me teasing her. “All right, this I have to hear.”
So, I spent the next few minutes expining my pns for the upcoming return to school after the summer break and how getting the agency's recommendation for when the school would refuse to support me when I applied for the provisional hero license exam.
Rachel listened and her hands moved almost on automatic as she put together the paperwork I would need, both for the recommendation and for applying for the license. She also handed me copies of the work she had done on her own to set up the preliminary groundwork for starting my own agency.
That reminded me to tell her about both Izuku and Mei, how we had a falling out, and that it was only going to be me as the starting hero. Rachel tapped the folder of papers and I flipped through them, only to pause at the applications from several sidekicks to join the new agency. I raised my eyebrows at her and she nodded, then whispered Fire had just handed it to her.
Ah, that was probably why they were arguing. I thought. “Thanks a lot for this, Rachel.” I said and took her hand to kiss her knuckles. I took off my backpack and tucked the folder into it, careful of the mostly exposed electronic device.
“You've made quite the impression on her and a few others, both with your professionalism after what happened and with your knowledge. It was no surprise to me that some of them were smart enough to see what was right in front of them.” Rachel said.
I put my backpack back on and nodded. “It's only another couple of weeks and you can file all of that.”
“Are you that confident you'll pass?” Rachel asked.
“Like I told the police officer during my first officially sanctioned hero intervention of a crime, I would have passed it a long time ago if I had been allowed to take it.”
Rachel smiled and nodded. “Then I don't have to wish you good luck.”
“Just because you don't have do, doesn't mean you shouldn't.” I responded.
Rachel looked amused. “Good luck, Supreme.”
“Thank you, citizen!” I said with authority and stood at attention to salute her.
Rachel barked a ugh and motioned towards the door. “Get out of here.”
“Yes, ma'am.” I said and started to walk away, then walked back. “You wouldn't happen to still have my temporary permit in your desk, do you?”
Rachel opened the top drawer of her desk and lifted it out, as if she had it close at hand for a reason. “I can't let you leave with this. It's against the w.”
“Yes, it is.” I said and took it from her hand. “My train home doesn't leave for another twenty minutes, so I have about ten minutes to spare before I jog to the station. Is there any paperwork, filing, errands, or anything else you need done around here at super speed?”
Rachel's eyes widened and then she grinned at me. “I may have a thing or two for you to handle for me.”
“I thought so.” I said and grinned back.
Ten minutes at super speed was plenty of time to handle everything she needed me for, both professionally and personally.

Lois was home when Connor arrived and they both had fast food, made each other ugh as they apologized for not calling to check if the other had some, then they shared a portion of the food and put the rest in the refrigerator. They wouldn't have to buy anything for the next day and Lois had more than enough to bring lunch with her.
Over the next few days, Lois also helped Connor file the appropriate papers with the school administration. As they both suspected, all of the applications were rejected almost right after they had been received, including the request for the school's support for Connor to take the provisional license exam. They denied it because he was only a freshman, even though all of Css 1-A from UA were only freshmen and they were all sighed up to take it.
With the second flimsy excuse that a single mistake by one teacher, didn't make the entire school at fault, they denied everything Connor tried to do to have them help him. So, he took the paperwork Rachel had given to him about the license and the endorsement from Endeavor, and took them to file them on his own.
It was approved, mostly because the heroes had already gathered together to attack the hideout of the vilins that had kidnapped Katsuki Bakugo. It had been going well, then All Might showed up and it turned into an all-out brawl as the Masked Vilin showed himself to face him.
Most of Kamino Ward was fttened. Thankfully, most of the civilians had been evacuated beforehand and it was only property damage as All Might and Lex Luthor fought. At the end, Luthor was once again in custody and All Might officially retired.
Surprisingly, when Connor returned home, he found Rachel sitting on the couch talking to Lois. Before he could ask her what she was doing there, Rachel showed him a bonus check for an obscene amount of money and expined how his insider information about All Might retiring, had allowed Endeavor to make certain financial decisions since his internship, that then resulted in a massive amount of capital in return from his investments.
“That wasn't why I told him.” Connor said and accepted the check.
“He knows that.” Rachel said. “That doesn't mean he doesn't appreciate the people that supported him when he could have been caught completely ftfooted at All Might's announcement. Instead, he was far ahead of the backsh and had more than enough support in pce to take over All Might's spot as the number one hero in the world.” She said and smiled warmly. “Thanks to you.”
“Then you have to stay for dinner and tell me all about it.” Lois said and Rachel nodded.
