Chapter 25

Till this day Steven could fully remember what happened that day besides the heat he felt envelope him and the red that covered his eyes before...

Smack, a fiery hand slammed against his cheeks sending a pain so sharp if brought him back to his senses to his home set ablaze, his sister trembling with fear as their mother shielded her from the raging flames and his father looking down at him with mix of rage and disappointment. The days that proceeded after that were his most miserable days, not only did have to bring self to face his parents and meet their gaze filled not but disappoint especially his father were just stare at him coldly without uttering a single word, but he also had to face Susan, the person who had been by his side, giving him love, care, and support as he practiced and trained on mastery his powers, she was his sister, his best and only friend, the one who was always there to cheer him on and support him even when he blew up his face with a fire ball. She was the reason why he finally mastered his flame, if it wasn’t for her support he would still be struggling to conjure a single fire ball without it blowing up on his face. Recalling the innocent and playful smile she always wore on his face, a smile that always lightened and brought warmth to his heart, making him want to smile as well and brighten up his, a smile he could always see whenever he glanced at her *sigh* but after that day, all Steven could see whenever he glanced at her was the look of fear and horror in her eyes as she stared back him raging flames that surround him.

Steven, not wanting to have to endure painful gazes of disappointment from his parents and the reminder of that day that came to him as he gazed at Susan’s face, he locked himself in his room, only coming out to eat and avoided any form of interaction with his parents and Susan as much as he could even when his mother, worried about him, tried talking to him and offered to go play, he refused them and simply made his way to his room. Banging his room doors closed shut and within the four corns of his room, misery and anguish manifested itself in form nightmares that persisted and sometimes he could even see that when he was awake. Horrific visions of his parents leaving and never returning and him losing himself to the raging inferno with consuming everything around him including Susan.

Gritting his teeth with his turning in fierce red dragon eyes and his body fuming with heat dissipated from it, refusing to allow nightmare come through, Steven steeled his heart and began practicing and training his powers within those four walls. His flames, radiant but violent, burned more and more with his passion and fury. Determined to show his parents, that...*sigh*, he was strong enough to fight so they wouldn’t have to. He didn’t want to lose them or Susan, so he had to get stronger, he had to show that he was strong. So he keep pushing and pushing himself to the point of exhaustion, making sure to maintain enough control over his flames to prevent setting his room on fight as he practiced. Parents having noticed the way he kept practicing and training his power i isolation in room, tried convince him to stop but he wouldn’t listen, even when he almost burnt down his entire room when due to his exhaustion could not maintain control over his flames, luckily his parents where around to quickly tame and quench them raging flames before thing could get out hand.

Even almost burning his room down was enough to detour him and simply opted to continue his training out in the forest where his flames posed little risk. Susan tried using the opportunity to play with him like they used to but Steven just ignored or walked away every time she offered to play to help him train. That was how Steven became cold and distant towards her greatly damage and almost completely shattering the deep and close relationship they shared as brother and sister.

Steven just wanted to get stronger so he could prove to his parents that he could be a Golden Dragon Guard so he continued practice and training alone in forest. But even after all the hard work, training, and effort he put in, each and every time he asked his parents if he could join the Golden Dragon Guard, they gave him the exact same reply “No. Out of the question. it’s way too dangerous”. Those were theirs exact words and upon hearing Steven just bowed his head down low and returned to his training.

And so he kept pushing himself, training all through the day and even the dusk of night. He kept pushing and pushing and pushing...

Underneath the dark star littered, deep within the forest, Steven, standing on his own two feet out of breath, panting and sweating profusely, the grass that laid on the soil underneath his feet singed and burned due to the heat dissipating out of his body, stretched out his hand, struggling to hold it firmly in place due to his exhaustion, managed to summon enough strength to conjure up fire ball and send it flying straight in to a boulder that stood before him, destroying it to fierce and fiery explosion.

He then fell down to is knees, using both arms to support himself and keep from collapsing o the ground below.

“Steven”, a familiar voice echoed throughout the forest.

“Steven”, it cried out once more.

Steven managed, using the let bit of strength he had left, to raise up to see a familiar figure emerged out of shadow of the surrounding tree holding up a single flame on his hand before rushing straight to him upon spotting him.

“Steven”, he called out as he went to his aid, lifting him back up on his feet.

“What on earth has gotten over you my son”, James spoke as Steven’s tired eyes as he barely strength the strength to stand on his own without his support.

“That’s enough now Steven, come let’s get back home”, said James as he grabbed hold of his son to take him back to their home.

Steven arm then stiffed, refusing to follow his father back.

“I not going back home”, Steven spoke coldly with his gaze away from his father.

“What?” said James, taken aback by his response.

“Steven, it’s dark, we’re so deep the forest who knows what kind of danger is lurking within the shadows. Enough, your mother and sister are at home worried sick about you, now stop being so stubborn and let’s go”, said James.

“Am I strong enough to join the guard”, Steven asked, his gaze still refusing to met with his father.

“Steven”, his father cold out to him before letting out a sigh. “Not this again”

“Am I strong enough to join the guard”, asked Steven

James then took in a breath before looking turning to look at the surroundings, all the scorched pieces of rocks formed Steven, knowing how hard he been training , acknowledged and just how strong he was but *sigh* compared to those monsters...

“No”, James spoke, his tone cold and firm as he couldn’t bring himself to send his own out there in to the world to face those monsters.

Steven’s body then began to heat up.

“Steven calm down”, James spoke to his son, feeling the rising heat in his body just kept growing and growing, but Steven just remained silence.

“Steven”, he called but Steven gave no response and still remained silent.

In that moment, Steven was entirely what was happening to him as every sound around became muffled almost as though he had grown, his eyes felt as though they had been covered in a haze. All he could see where all the days and nights he either secluded in his room or the forest, training over and over again, just to show his parents that he was strong enough to join the guard. Gritting his teeth as the heat from his body increased. Hearing his parents voice each time he went to them, how they would repeatedly say no every time he asked and as those events replayed over and over again in his mind, Steven thought to himself ‘it isn’t fair. Why do they have to be the ones to fight and not me? I’m strong enough to fight, I’m strong enough to face those monsters, so why won’t they let me’.

As those thought continued swirling about in his head, the heat surged and his body ignited in magnificent flaming aura, taking James aback and shocked to see with his own eyes just what his son was capable of. Feeling the heat emanating off him due to his aura, stinging him quite a bit but not enough for him to let go or lessen his grip on his son.

“Steven listen to me, you have to calm down” James spoke of to his son but his words feel on deaf ears as the flaming aura that surrounded him just grew more and more, engulfing in him in a raging blanket of flames so intense that James was forced to let go of his son.

“Passion and fury, the core of attribute of flame. Passion, the spark that ignites the flame, and fury, the fuel that allows it to burn. To command the power of the flames one must allow their passion to flow through their body, igniting the flames from deep within and allow fury to drive you, allowing the flames to burn and shine bright”

All Steven could feel was anger and rage with a burning vale of red covering his eyes.

“But one must also be cautious when attempting to conquer the power of flame, for a balance must be struck between the two core attributes. To little of either of them and the flames become weak and timid, too much and....”

He could feel the heat along with the raging flames emanating out of his body, growing with each breath he took, it just kept raising and raising along with rage and anger until...

“...and the flames will burn hot and grow intensity, consuming all including the one who holds it”

Steven, with ferocious and almost beastly roar, spewed flames out of his mouth, engulfing the nearby trees and setting the forest ablaze. James could only watch with stunned eyes and a slight hint of fear and worry in his eyes, as he wondered if the raging beast that stood before him was truly his son.
