Chapter 2: The Captain Without a Ship
Narrator:
Every legend begins with an encounter.
And sometimes that encounter reeks of rum, gunpowder… and pure chaos.
Scene: Mist Port Tavern “The Limping Kraken”
Thick, humid air. Smoke hangs heavy.
Sailors bellow with laughter, dice slam against tables, a brawl erupts in one corner and dies just as fast.
Kael pushes through the door, drenched, silver hair plastered to his forehead. He walks straight to the bar.
Kael (still catching his breath):
“A bowl of soup… and any word about a ship heading East.”
The tavern keeper a giant bald man with a thick braided beard sizes him up slowly.
Tavern Keeper:
“No ships going East, kid.
A case of literary theft: this tale is not rightfully on Amazon; if you see it, report the violation.
A rough, gravelly laugh rises from the back of the room.
A figure stands up slowly: cigarette dangling from his lips, worn black coat, rusted saber hanging at his hip.
It’s him. Captain Rago.
Character: Captain Rago
- Legendary former pirate, known as “The Broken Wind”
- Lost his ship and entire crew in a supernatural storm
- Now lives in seclusion, haunted by a past he refuses to speak of
- Possesses a map fragment leading to a piece of the Eye of Azure
Tense Exchange :
Rago (walking toward Kael, smoke curling around him):
“So you want to go East, boy?"
Kael (not taking a single step back):
“I listen to the wind. And it’s telling me to go.”
Rago (crooked half-smile):
“Then prove you’re not just another kid with dreams too big for his britches.”
Next Scene: Mist Island Rooftops Midnight
Kael and Rago face each other under a pale moon.
A crowd gathers below, murmuring. An honor duel. The winner chooses the path.
Rago (drawing his saber with a metallic rasp):
“Land one clean touch on me, and I’ll take you.
Fail… and you forget the Azure ever existed.”
Kael (raising his fists, grin returning):
“Deal.”
Fight: Blade vs Wind :
- Rago strikes like lightning old, deadly precision in every movement.
- Kael flows, slips, dodges. He rides the wind itself, almost dancing with the air.
- For a split second he closes his eyes… and hears it a whisper:
*“Toward the gap… strike the emptiness.”*
- He leaps, feints, punches into nothing
and the wind itself bends Rago’s blade aside.
The old captain stumbles.
- Two fingers gently press against Rago’s throat.
Kael (quiet smile):
“Got you.”
Revelation
Rago, sprawled on the wet tiles, bursts into deep, genuine laughter.
Rago:
“By all the damn currents… you actually got me, little one.
Alright. I’ll take you.
But understand this: this journey isn’t an adventure.
It’s a curse.”
Still sitting, he pulls out a charred fragment of ancient map and holds it out.
Burned edges.
In the center: an open eye surrounded by crashing waves and jagged lightning.
End of Chapter :
A patched-together skiff rocks against the pier.
Kael and Rago climb aboard under a sky that’s starting to growl.
Thunder rolls in the distance. A storm is waking.
Yet Kael is smiling.
Kael (softly, almost tenderly):
“I hear you, sea. I’m coming.”
Beneath the black water…
the enormous shadow from the previous chapter slowly opens one glowing eye.
The Eye of Azure… is watching.
