Chapter 39 The black blades
I immediately used dual mind and raised a wall of earth behind us to stall the small fry as we got into our respective fights. I personally ran over to the mage and swung all three of my blades at the cloaked caster. With a staff he managed to block all but my tail blade, a small scratch being cut into his mask from it. He jumped backward and immediately began casting, several chains being conjured from magical circles around him.
The chains moved like snakes, whipping through the air as they pursued me. I used skyjump to get some height and then a combination of gravity and wind magic to quickly close the gap between us once again, instead of going for a head on attack like last time I vault over him as he tried to block and my blades rake down his back. I increase my inertia with gravity magic and am rewarded with my blades dripping with his blood. As soon as I touched the ground the chains whipped into my chest, knocking the breath out of me and pushing me back into a building. We both kneeled for a moment catching our breath.
Looking back for a moment the small fry had managed to climb over my hastily created wall and were summarily pushed back with a quick gust of wind from Sarah. Using my momentary distraction the mage began to chant, magical circles slowly drifting around him. I didn't give him the chance to finish his spell and dashed towards him and kicked his chest. The spell shattered like glass then turned into mist as the mage tumbled a few times on the ground. I made my way to his prone form and had my leg wrapped in a chain halfway to him. The mage's mask fell away as he slowly got back up, the chain now coiled around my body, constricting me.
I could feel a gentle sucking force on my mana as the chains tightened; this bastard was the one who made those chains we were imprisoned in! I growled in indignation as both of my minds began working fire magic to melt the chains. The mage had a sneer on his face as I was being squeezed, until he saw his chains turning red hot. It was painful, the metal burned into my flesh before becoming even hotter and melting away. A moment later the chains snapped and the last look on his face was surprise as my sword took his head off.
Huffing I looked around to see the others far worse off in their duels with only Derek standing his ground with Sarah at his back, occasionally blasting a low leveled thief away and keeping the Fencer from getting the upper hand. I moved to help Alice out with the whipmaster since Jean was holding on if only barely against the assassin.

“Alice!”
I pull her away from a potentially lethal strike from a knife flying her way. Without missing a beat Alice chants a quick healing spell and a barrier for me. The warm glow of healing magic flows over me and I feel a rib that had cracked crunch back into place. A moment later I heard a shout coming from Jean and Alice rushed to his side.
With a barrier taking the brunt of the damage coming my way I quickly managed to pierce the whipmaster with my tail blade through their heart. My danger sense flares as the small fry converge on me. I skyjump as several swords slash at my last position, as I fall I spin and all three of my blades rip into flesh. A bloody spray from the bodies drenches me as I touch down on the ground again only to see even more thieves, hesitant as they see my blood soaked visage.
This. This was living. This was what I was missing, the sound of my heart pumping the sound thundering in my ears, my body feeling light and responsive. I ducked and dodged as my second mind worked on casting a spell. My blades flashed as my body ducked and dodged between strikes like a serpent, occasionally getting a limb or parrying a blow.
“Gravitas-igni pulsar lin fotide!”
A wave of firebolts empowered by gravity magic shredded outwards in a pulse, clearing the rabble, poking holes into thieves and taking limbs.
POV Jean
“Dark blade!”
The assassin moved quickly, almost too fast for my eyes to keep up, my dark blade shot outward and streaked through the air, devouring light as it passed only for it to crash against the ground as she evaded it like it was made of molasses.
“Seeker.”
She seemed to teleport in front of me and my sword barely managed to stop her dagger from taking my head clean off. Sparks flew from our blades as we clashed, I pushed forward only to be taken off balance as she swept my leg. The world went upside down as I feverishly brought my sword back up to block only to be sent flying through a window. Glass shards stuck to my skin and blood pooled from the glittering wounds now peppering my body.
Instinctively I rolled as I felt a cold chill down my spine, the space I was just in had two large grooves raked out of the stone a moment later. I dodged the best I could only to have grazing strikes slowly draw blood from me as we danced, this couldn't continue, I was completely out matched.
“Igni-spehro lithi crondo!”
I quickly chanted the spell for a fireball and the front half of the building burst away with the flame, now out on the street again I tried to imitate Xion's quickdraw as I dashed quickly at the assassin. She got into a wide open stance as I drew near only for my sword to go flying away. Looking at my hand I saw nothing, my arm had been taken off at the shoulder, I could feel a radiating smugness coming from her as I crouched down and screamed in pain.
I know I've kept my chapters at about 1000 words each to keep them nice and bite sized but what do you guys want?
