Chapter 14 side story, slime farming.

  After each of the elders' lessons we went hunting for anything weak, we would naturally get a bit of XP by fulfilling our classes roles and training, but slaying monsters for combat classes is the best way to get stronger. I unsheathed my shortswords, one in each hand as our party entered the clearing. A heavy snow was coming down, the damp ground slowly piling up with the stuff as we looked for our targets, snow and ice slimes. slimes could naturally evolve if their environment was different, they tended to be a bit of a challenge compared to their lesser cousins, the regular slime, and they were higher leveled and aggressive to boot.

  “Xion, I see a few, over there.”

  I followed Jean's directions and looked, there were 6 assorted ice and snow slimes, one of them had just noticed us.

  I threw a quick Appraise at one before I made any orders.

  [Ice slime, lv 7, low threat]

  “Standard formation, me and Jean for the vanguard, keep Alice and Sarah safe Derek.”

  Everyone makes sounds of affirmation, I imbue my blades with fire, as does Jean beside me, Sarah readies a small fireball and Alice prepares protective barriers while the ice slimes send small bits of ice at us, I dodge a few as the barriers come to life, ice plinking away at it while Derek stood in between the girls and the slimes his large sword moving with speed as he used his class skill ‘Deflect’ to swat away a few ice chunks that made it to them.

  Me and Jean are closing in on the slimes, and with a small leap we move through the air, our tails bashing a slime each as our swords sink into another, as we hit the ground we go back to back, a snow slime is blasted by Sarah's fireball and goes limp on the ground, we slice and stab into the slimes as they approach, trying to freeze us, our blades covering each other as they fall one by one. After our battle a small notification pops up.

  Everyone levels up twice besides me, my xp being close to my first level.

  “Is anyone hurt?”

  Alice voices.

  They all shook their heads, the fight had gone without a hitch.

  “Let's keep moving, I'm close to my first level and the rest of you are probably close to another, let's keep up the momentum while it's still snowing out.”

  We kept up the momentum for the rest of the month, each time it would snow we would go to cull any slime variants we came across, with all that work I had made it to lv 3 and my teammates were all lvl 8. I had gained 3 more skill points and 40 stat points for all of our work.

  I looked into magic skills and chose basic gravity magic for 2 skill points.

  And I upgraded my acrobatics with the remaining 3.

  Sky jump, be able to jump on the air once to increase height, break your fall or to reposition.

  Uncanny acrobatics, while in the middle of an acrobatic feat it is marginally easier to dodge any and all attacks.

  Going over them both twice sky jump just seems like the obvious choice, paired with my magic I should be able to jump triple the height with an extra jump in midair. Afterwards I invested all my stat points.

  With a distinct focus on agility my points were distributed, a feeling of power surging through my body as I gained noticeable strength. I hopped a bit to test myself, my limbs felt easier to move, my body felt a great deal stronger and I felt a bit more robust. My mana hummed quietly beneath my skin, ready to be called on.
