Chapter 9 recollection
As the days passed on from getting our spell book of basic elements, my memories began to return at a faster rate, and the notification of my memory lock began to blare every few days. My past memories drove me more than anything else did since ive reincarnated. And with that ive been working restlessly on magic and sparring with my friends.
“Xion, you doing ok?”
Sarah came from behind me, placing a hand on my shoulder.
“You've been pushing yourself really hard the last week, we're all worried about you.”
I pause my training, the wind in my hands dying.
“I'm fine… i guess, im just worried when we get our classes that I wont be strong enough to keep us safe, mercenary work is tough. And I wont accept any of us dying, we'll make it to the top, together.”
Sarah looks with at me with a complicated expression.
“There's no need for any of us to shoulder that burden alone, youre talented beyond what any one of us is, im always chasing you when it comes to magic, and Jean can hardly win when you guys get serious at sparring. Youre the most agile out of all of us and youre our rock that keeps us together. But please, dont work yourself to death just for our sakes, we can all work together!”
I pause, my head down.
“I guess ive been a bit of an idiot…”

Sarah gives a small smile.
“Maybe a little more than that but yeah.”
We laid down beneath our tree, looking at the village. The elders house was in the middle, with the smithy close by, the baker was near the edge of the village and the hunters were scattered throughout. My house was somewhere in between, relativly close to Sarah's house. As we laid down, we began combing each other's tails, something id been neglecting to do with my training recently. The fur on it looking knotted and unkempt. Sarah had grown, almost as much as me. I still remember the first time we met, playing tag together, teasing Jean when he couldn't catch either of us. Me and Sarah were definitely the closest out of everyone.
“...Sarah? Thank you for being my friend.”
I got up and hugged Sarah, a tear falling down my face, a faint memory at the back of my mind, a past where I was ignored and uncared for, I'll keep her safe, and the others too…
Sarah pats my head, her tail swishing back and forth from happiness.
“We'll keep each other safe, no matter what. Ok?”
I nod in her embrace, my own tail betraying me, swishing a bit as we hold each other for another minute.
Another month passes, with my steady work making phenomenal progress, every other day I would work on my magic with Sarah, trying to get that elusive omni magic, Sarah being determined to keep up made that her goal too. One day when we were practicing dark magic, Alice came to practice with us.
“Guys, ive figured something cool out!”
Halfway through our session Alice had figured out basic barrier magic, a rare protective magic thats not one of the standard elements.
Me and Sarah looked at the small barrier Alice had created, its transparent square shape reflecting a bit of light off of it.
“Thats so cool! How strong is it?”
We take turns saying.
“Well Jean cant break it in less than two hits, so I think its pretty strong!”
For all of Jean's shortcomings he was fairly strong. I nodded in agreement.
After Alice's debut of her unique magic me and sarah were fired up to get omni magic.
By the end of the day with sweat covering our bodies I had managed to get omni magic and Sarah was only missing darkness to complete it.
