Chapter 176: Underworld-Uperworld Emperor

  Ninth Planet - Day 30.

The small village down the hill.

The village chief, an old man in a winter coat made of the same skin from the blue sheep-like animals, was smoking something and looking at the sky.

  "Who is that?"

  "A young master?"

  "He looks so rich!"

  "Why is he so familiar?"

Hearing the sudden commotion, the old man turned around to see who was coming.

Their village didn't have more than 40 people, so everyone gathered to see who was coming, which made the kids react like that.

But when they saw who it was, their jaws dropped.

An evil-looking young man, stern face, in a dark-red robe, with the design of a flowing, endless river of lava winding across the fabric of his robe, filled with ghostly figures reaching out in torment or drifting in silence,

was walking towards them arrogantly, as if he owned the village!

Behind him, two rows of blue-colored animals were 'marching' like soldiers.

On one side, the light blue-colored females, and on the other side, the deep blue-colored males.

All of the sheep were looking as stern as he was.

As he got closer, his towering figure seemed to get... smaller and smaller?

  *Shatter*

When the young man arrived in front of them, and instead of looking taller, he became smaller,

As if a nonexistent illusion shattered, the crowd saw who he really is!

  "Little shepherd, is that you?"

"My goodness! You scared me for a moment!"

"Mom, mom, look at his robe! It's scary!"

"Little shepherd, where did you find this fancy robe?"

"Why are these 'Duskewes' so tamed?

What did you do to them?"

While the villagers were making comments, the village chief didn't say a single word.

He was a level 2, far stronger than these villagers.

In the 'forced role' the system gave him, he was like a hidden expert in retirement, disguised as a village chief.

When he saw the child, who in his memory was just a weak brat yesterday, turn into someone he couldn't feel any presence,

The village chief knew something was wrong!

He was even ready to run.

But the little boy's eyes suddenly locked onto him and made him shiver.

  The message was clear,

  'Don't move, old man.'

The little shepherd raised his hand and pointed at the barn.

While the crowd didn't understand the meaning, the so-called Duskewes, who seem to be equivalent to sheep here, understood the order.

They all started moving to the barn in two rows.

The ladies entered first, and the gentlemen after them.

  The crowd gasped in shock,

"How in the Queen's name did they become so obedient?"

"Little shepherd, you should tell us what trick you just used!"

The little shepherd's gaze moved over the crowd, and they all became silent without knowing why.

Then he gestures for them to sit.

  "Please sit, my subjects."

The crowd, again, didn't know why, but sat down obediently.

But before they sat down on the ground, they felt something underneath them.

"Eh? Where did these chairs come from?"

"Mom, look! There is food too!"

The crowd, who suddenly saw themselves in a feast, were shocked!

The old village chief was now sweating profusely.

He was the only one who knew none of this was a good thing!

The other party was probably a hidden expert, more hidden than him, if not possessed by evil spirits or something...

An old lady who didn't know about the 'danger' the old village chief knew, asked while drinking and chewing on something,

"Little Mortal, what happened to you?

I remember you were an abandoned child when I found you.

Did your parents find you? Are you here to say goodbye?"

Lilith, on Little Mortal's shoulder, chuckled,

"It seems this is the 'plot' for the 'shepherd role', so they can act any way they want, and take a role for themselves.

They just know the participant by name and a short back story.

From here on out, you can write your own story."

  Little Mortal smiled,

"This Emperor does not have any parents.

I am my own, and everybody else's parent."

  The village turned silent.

  Then everyone starts laughing!

  "Nice one!"

"Look at him act like a real young master!"

  "I almost believed him!"

A little girl even ran to him and kicked him in the leg, saying,

  "Stop messing around, Little Mortal!"

The old village chief almost had a heart attack and thought the little girl was a goner!

This little expert didn't seem to be joking!

  Little Mortal snorted,

"Believe it or not, I don't care."

Then he brought out a whiteboard and wrote,

[Project: Buying Back My Upperworld Territory.]

Then he looked at the confused crowd,

"If there is no question, we can begin."

The villagers, who didn't know what was happening, looked at the old man.

He was the village chief, so he should be the one asking the questions they had.

But they only saw him sweating in this cold weather and smiling awkwardly.

Seeing there was no hope when it came to him,

They looked at the old lady who seemed to be the one who found Little Mortal outside a year ago and let him stay in their village.

The old lady coughed and took responsibility,

"Little Mortal, can you tell us what is going on exactly?

Did you remember your past? Or did you find some secret legacy outside?

And what do you mean by 'my upperworld'?"

Hearing the questions, Little Mortal put down the marker and explained to them,

"Let's start with my real identity that I just remembered today.

I am Mortal, known as 'the strongest'.

I am the Demon Emperor - cough, I mean Divine Emperor of the underworld."

The crowd, who seemed to be in their 'roles' with a complete set of new memories, believed him easily.

  *Gasp*

  A little kid shouted,

  "You are the Demon Emperor?"

  Little Mortal gritted his teeth,

  "No! I said Divine Emperor!"

But the kid didn't believe him,

"No way! You said Demon Emperor!"

  "Yes, I heard it too!"

"And look at your robe! What are those scary things trying to come out of the lava rivers?"

  "That's a Demon Emperor robe!"

Little Mortal stomped his foot on the ground.

  The whole village trembled.

The crowd turned silent with their jaws slightly open.

"Was it an earthquake just now?"

  "I think so."

  "It wasn't that strong though..."

  "Yeah, we got lucky."

The village chief, who felt the vibration go far and wide, wished he could be ignorant like them.

  Little Mortal shook his head,

"Okay, now that you know I am the Divine Emperor, let me continue."

The villagers, who seemed to be enjoying the drink and food, just nodded.

If he wants to play the Emperor game, let him be.

"As I said, my territory is the underworld.

One day, I thought to myself, if the ground under my feet is mine, what about the other side of it? Hmm?"

  One of the children asked,

"Where is the other side of your underworld territory?"

  And Little Mortal answered,

"Here, the upperworld, where you live."

  The villagers became enlightened,

"So there is an underworld below, and an upperworld above, which is here!"

"And you are the Demon Emperor down there, who decided to come up here to conquer the other side of your territory?"

  Little Mortal rolled his eyes,

"I said I am the Divine Emperor!

And I'm not here to conquer!

I buy your world with my superpower."

  A little kid asked excitedly,

  "What's your superpower?"

  The others were interested too.

What kind of superpower could allow you to buy a whole world?

Only the village chief knew this proclaimed Emperor's superpower was his 'iron fist', probably.

But Little Mortal's answer surprised them,

"Are you silly? How can I buy everything with any superpower except 'Rich'?"

The little kid asked in confusion,

  "Being rich is a superpower?

Then, wouldn't every merchant be like that?"

  Little mortal shook his head,

"Let me explain it to you in a way you understand.

  Pay attention."

  The crowd listened carefully.

  "Let's start with a question.

Do rich people know how much money they have?"

  The crowd nodded.

  How could they not know?

"Alright, as you see, that's the limit of being 'rich'.

But, someone with a 'rich superpower' like me is so rich that even he himself doesn't know how much money he has!

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the difference between being rich and having 'rich' as a superpower."

After a pause, the villagers nodded, as if they understood.

So he found some money that he couldn't count.

That was probably the whole thing.

Little mortal went back to the whiteboard,

  "Alright, let's begin."

[ Project buying back my upperworld territory.

  1. Buy the villages

  2. Buy the cities

  3. Buy the capital

  4. Buy the king/Queen

  5. Summon the Demon army and conquer the world. ]

The crowd looked at the whiteboard and felt that the last step of this project seemed a bit suspicious.

  A kid raised his hand.

Ensure your favorite authors get the support they deserve. Read this novel on the original website.

  Little mortal nodded,

  "Ask whatever you want."

  The little boy gulped down,

"If you are the Divine Emperor, why is your army the Demon army?"

Little mortal gasped and hurriedly changed it.

[ 5. Summon the Divine army and conquer the world.]

  Another little kid asked,

"Why are you buying at first, but conquering at the end?"

Little mortal changed the last step again.

[5. Summon the Divine army and buy the world.]

  Another kid asked,

"Why do you need an army to buy something?"

Little mortal gritted his teeth and changed the last step again.

[ 5. Summon the Divine envoys and buy the world.]

Seeing there were no more questions, little mortal sighed in relief,

  "Alright.

  Let's start with this village.

  How much is it?

I want to buy the whole thing, villagers included."

  The villagers,

  "-_-"

  ....

  Ninth planet - Day 31.

A group of familiar villagers, wearing similar white fancy winter coats, was moving in a certain direction.

In front of them, the proclaimed Divine Emperor, on a fancy child-size throne, was being carried by the Duskewes.

The villagers whispered to each other,

"Should we keep playing his game?

I thought he just found some treasures that he wants to show off..."

"I thought the same, but he bought the village..."

"We should listen to Granny and the village chief."

  "What did they say?"

"The village chief is just smiling, which means he is fine with playing along a little more.

And Granny said we just follow him until he runs out of 'money' buying villages.

We can then settle down and choose him as our future village chief until the old man dies and he replaces him."

  "Oh, Granny is so smart!

If we are with him, no one can steal his money or scam him."

  " Yes, it's a win-win situation!

We can live a better life, and he can be a village chief!"

"Shhh! Granny said we should call him the Emperor!"

  " Oh, sorry, sorry!

  We have a village Emperor!"

"When he grows up, he can even marry one of our daughters, and stay in our village forever!"

The old village chief heard the conversation and shook his head,

  'These people...

Wish I could be like them...'

  .......

  Ninth planet - Day 33.

  "Was it the tenth one?"

  "Yes..."

"How much stuff did he find?

It doesn't matter what the village chiefs or villagers ask him to pay, he has everything!"

"Maybe he really is the Demon Emperor?"

  "The Divine Emperor!"

  "Yes, yes, The Divine Emperor!"

"What now? We already ran out of villages, but he didn't run out of money..."

"Granny said, we only need to take him to the city, he will run out of money there!"

"Yes! It's impossible for him to buy a city!"

"Then we can build a small city for ourselves with the villagers of the 10 villages he bought!"

"He will be the mayor then!"

"Don't be silly, he is the Emperor!"

  "Yes, yes, the Emperor!"

And so the journey of the villagers, numbering around three hundred with their similar outfits and a carriage that hosted the women and children, continued.

Now they were more like a caravan of merchants instead of villagers...

  ......

  Ninth planet - Day 34.

The villagers' caravan, on its way to the nearest city, suddenly stopped.

A group of a hundred strongmen with swords in hand was blocking the way.

A bearded man riding a horse-like creature left the group of strongmen and came closer to the 'caravan'.

Seeing the scary-looking man with wounds all over his thick arms, the children ran back to their mothers, and the adult men walked forward.

The old village chief looked at the unlucky bandits with pity...

The bandit boss looked at the crowd, and his gaze stopped at the 'young master', sitting arrogantly on a throne with closed eyes, and said,

"Who is responsible for this caravan?

  Come forward!"

The crowd didn't say anything, and only turned their heads to Little mortal, who slowly opened his eyes, and said,

"If you have to speak, speak only what is necessary."

The crowd, villagers, and bandits alike, gasped when they heard his tone and the way he spoke!

The bandit boss was taken aback at first, but came back to his senses, unsheathed his sword, and said,

"Hand over 20% of your wealth as a protection fee, and you can leave with your lives!"

  The villagers frowned.

  20%?

  Was he dreaming?

  Over our dead bodies!

And walked even closer to Little mortal.

Little mortal snorted and, while taking a shiny gem out of his infopad inventory, said,

  "20%?

How about this, I give you 100%.

If you can take it, it's yours.

If not, you and your underlings are going to work for me.

  Do you dare to accept?

I can even show you a sample of my wealth!"

And flicked the gem towards the chest of the bandit boss, as if saying, 'Here, take a look at the sample!'

The bandit boss, as if offended, tried to catch the gem and throw it back, but when he caught it, he felt like someone had hit his chest with a hammer!

The other bandits only saw their boss flying away as he made a muffled sound and spat blood!

  The place turned silent.

Only the villagers were whispering to each other, asking what had just happened,

"I think he left to ask someone if the gem is real."

  "That should be it!"

"But I think I saw him spitting blood..."

"Don't be silly, how does such a big guy get injured by that small gem?"

  "You are right, I guess..."

Little mortal then looked at the remaining bandits!

Without exception, they all shivered, but didn't move!

They knew they hit an iron wall today.

Little mortal, still on his throne, waited patiently.

20 minutes later, the bandit boss came back from 'farther away', coughing.

These bandits were only level 1, but they were strong level 1, unlike the villagers.

Seeing him back, Little Mortal nodded at him,

"Are you ready to receive my wealth?"

The bandit boss and his underlings shook their heads repeatedly.

  Little mortal nodded,

"Where I come from, shaking your head means 'yes'.

It should be the same here.

  Here, you can have it.

  But, can you take it?"

And threw a bunch of cards at them.

The next moment, all of the cards turned into motorcycles, guns, and vehicles that were 'disabled' and could only be taken out, but not used!

  The bandits were speechless!

Shaking your head means 'No' here!

But they didn't have the time to explain, or any other choice anyway...

The other party was a hidden expert, pretending to be a caravan leader.

Not long after, seeing the mountain of 'iron' that they couldn't naturally take away with them, and nobody knew how much 'wealth' it was,

The bandits could only accept their fate and follow the new boss...

Little mortal smiled and looked at the villagers,

"And that, ladies and gentlemen, was the 'wisdom of an Emperor', that I demonstrate for you."

The villagers nodded with awkward smiles.

They couldn't really understand many things about his 'wisdom'.

  ....

  Ninth planet - Day 35.

"Little mortal - cough, little Emperor, that's the city, what do you want us to buy for you?"

Said the old lady, who presumably was little Mortal's savior in everyone's memory.

  The villagers called her 'granny'.

As the closest person to the proclaimed 'Emperor', she was naturally their spokesperson.

Little mortal rubbed his chin and said,

"Granny, I give the 'grown-ups' some stuff to sell.

Tell them to sell everything first, then start buying the homes and stores in the city.

They can continue until the mayor shows up.

Then bring the mayor to this Emperor, so I can buy the rest of the city from him."

The old lady nodded and felt that the opportunity to empty this kid's pocket was finally here!

  Soon, they can settle down.

Not long after, a group of 200 men left for the city with several storage cards, which they knew how to use because of the fake memories inside their heads.

The granny told them to buy houses in the same neighborhood, so they can live in the city if possible, before this kid's money is completely gone.

  ...

  Ninth planet - Day 37.

  Little mortal was speechless.

It turned out the mayor wasn't in the city, but in the capital.

He went there to meet with the Queen.

Helpless, he asked the citizens who sold their property to join everybody else and buy everything.

Those who didn't sell their property, or the mayor's family,

were kidnapped, *cough*, were invited to the mayor's place to have a private conversation with the demon, *cough*, the Divine Emperor.

By night, the city with a population of 500 thousand, was bought, and those who didn't sell their property were 'invited' to a 'banquet'!

Little mortal even received a system message, telling him a future king might have a problem with the places he 'conquers' by force.

But he didn't care because Lilith told him that there are cyborgs in the city, even in the mayor's family, who didn't sell their property.

  The game was already rigged.

And after that, his crystal said the 'Queen' actually decided to come here with the mayor.

It was obvious that while the mayor was oblivious of what was happening in his city,

A certain cyborg Queen already knew everything through her cyborgs in the city, and now she was coming here to meet him.

When Little Mortal heard about these matters, he invited all of the important people to his banquet and started celebrating his arrival in the city as the richest man around.

How could anyone say no to his invitation, especially when the mayor's family was there too?

While people had fun, Little Mortal was writing something in his notebook.

[ - What I know from the system guide that is useful:

  1. I can't kill the Queen here.

  2. To become the Emperor, first I need to become the king.

  3. The Emperor can go anywhere and kill anyone.

  4. When I become the King, my name will be registered in the ranking.

  5. Each hour after I become the king, my coordinates will be sent to 1 participant.

  6. Everybody else can attack the Emperor's territory after 10 days.

  7. If I kill another king or Queen, I have 10 days of control over their army.

  - Conclusion:

I need to finish everything within 10 days after becoming the Emperor.

This is the real opportunity system is giving to the rank 1 participant from the previous season to finish the game.]

Little Mortal, as if he knew what he should do, put away the notebook.

  Lilith on his shoulder, snorted,

"So much for 'modern technology' being disabled!

That Queen just teleported over with her whole carriage and the mayor inside.

It seems this planet's system wants to do something about you directly."

Little Mortal, hearing her, pointed at a man close to him to come over.

"What's your order, Divine Emperor! "

This man was the eldest son of the Mayor, who saw a glimpse of the Emperor's 'wealth' and knew they might not survive until tomorrow if they didn't listen to him.

"Your daddy is coming home with the Queen.

Go welcome them, and bring the Queen over alone.

  Tell everyone else to leave."

The mayor's son was taken aback for a moment, but soon accepted the order and left.

He could finally breathe a sigh of relief.

His father was back with the Queen herself?

If it was true, then everything would be fine.

The main hall of the mayor's mansion emptied in a moment.

Around 10 minutes later, a lady walked into the hall.

In a luxury Robe, draped in flowing silks embroidered with golden threads, a jeweled crown resting upon her head, her piercing eyes radiating wisdom and authority-

"Can you stop pretending to be some wise Queen, little system ?"

Before the lady could act like a Queen, she was interrupted by a child's voice.

The Queen's hand froze on the door for a moment, and then her eyes turned cold.

The 'radiating wisdom and authority' was gone in a moment.

  The voice sounded again,

  "Now that's better."

This time, the voice was beside her.

The Queen, who didn't know how the other party had suddenly appeared here without her notice, looked down.

A little boy was sitting on a little throne in front of the door.

While wondering why he was sitting in front of the door and not at the end of the hall, he heard him say,

"I want to buy your Queen position for this season.

  How much is it ?"

The Queen, as if analyzing the Question, answered a brief moment later.

  "It's not for sale."

The little boy on the throne, who was obviously Little Mortal, took out his infopad and showed her his inventory.

"I give you this much for 1000 days.

You can't get a better deal anywhere else, little system. "

The corner of Queen's eyes twitched when she saw the inventory.

Each planet had a separate system, and after the 'crash', they lost direct access to each other.

  Currently,

They only knew what happened on the previous planet when participants advanced, and brought their infopad with them.

The system, when he arrived here, already knew he had swapped everything on the eight previous planets.

That's why it was looking for an opportunity to reclaim them legally under the rules of the planet's event.

After checking the infopad inventory, the Queen said,

"One day for everything you have.

  Special Trap-cards, handgun-card, sun-cards, and newborn-cards included ."

Little Mortal, though, rolled his eyes at her,

"Do I look like a 3-year-old to you?

100 days! Without my special cards or my newborn army ."

  The Queen shook her head,

"I can't give you more than 10 days for everything you have.

  Special Trap-cards, handgun-card, sun-card, and newborn-cards should be included."

  Little Mortal's eyes turned cold.

He brought out 4 evolved sun-cards and said,

"10 days, for everything, but not the newborns.

And you can have my special cards after the end of the planet's event.

In return, I won't blow up the whole planet with my four evolved sun-card right here and right now."

The cyborg Queen didn't have a heart, or it would jump up into her throat seeing the 4 evolved sun cards!

After calculating and checking with the rules to see if there was a way to bargain more, she could only say,

  "... Deal!"

The system in Queen's role indeed couldn't find a way to stop him from blowing up the planet if he wanted to, and she couldn't 'break' the rules either.

The sun-cards were actually made by the sinners' race, not the cyborgs under Hypermind.

Therefore, the system here couldn't stop it from activating, and Xyron outside couldn't either, because he lost access to the planets.

  Little Mortal nodded in satisfaction.

  "Good !"

And the next moment, everything in his inventory emptied, while a 'lock' appeared on his evolved Sun-cards.

Because he promised not to use them here on this planet, the system gained access to them through the participant's promise, and forced it not to work on the ninth Planet at least.

Even though it could be used in other places, the system wasn't responsible for those 'other places'.

The only goal was to retrieve and recycle all the cards this little thief gathered, and then sell them back to the participants in the next season.

  *Ding*

Little Mortal received a system message.

  [       SYSTEM MESSAGE

Participant Mortal, your regional Queen bestowed her title on you for 10 days.

Your name has been registered in Planet's Ranking.

Your territory can be attacked at any moment by your neighboring territory. ]

Little Mortal took out his infopad and checked the message.

He received a 'world map' too, showing him 2000 other territories.

He took out his Emperor card and activated it.

  A WARNING popped up.

[ Emperor-card is a one-time use card, in case of using it now, it is only effective for the next 10 days, equal to the duration of your temporary 'king title'.

Are you sure you want to use it now?

  Yes / No]

And Little Mortal pressed yes without wasting time.

[ Emperor mortal, your territory will be protected from any attack in the next 10 days.]

The system couldn't calculate what he was trying to achieve in these 10 days, and why he accepted such a bad deal with it.

She just looked at him and asked,

  "Any order, your majesty ?"

Even if for 10 days, he was the Emperor now, and she should listen to him.

But to her confusion, he wasn't on his little throne anymore.

There was only a note left.

[Keep the party going for the next 10 days.]

The former Queen just accepted the order and left to continue the 'party'.

The system couldn't detect the presence of this little underworld minion, but it could always find him through the infopad if needed.

Though it wasn't the same for participants.

He was invisible to them, and only his infopad could be tacked down after an hour.

  ......

  Not long after.

  Outside of the city.

Little Mortal was running in a certain direction.

His outfit was now a sleek, dark ensemble designed for stealth, consisting of a fitted shinobi shōzoku—a lightweight, flexible tunic and pants—reinforced with arm and leg wraps for silent movement,

split-toe tabi boots, and a face mask that conceals his identity.

He was now blending seamlessly into the shadows, moving quickly towards the nearest territory.

The Crystal already 'saved' the map, and it knew where each participant was.

The ninth planet was the planet they were going to 'trigger' the opportunity Little Mortal needed to make his final move.

So the crystal had the most hidden 'cameras' installed here.

Lilith, on Little Mortal's shoulder, smiled,

"The system here thought it took everything back just for a 10-day title,

But in reality, it helped you not waste your time with all of the steps you needed to take to become the king."

To be a king, the participants needed to progress step by step.

From a Shepherd to a village chief, or maybe a bandit boss.

From there, war could occur in each region, and they could join as soldiers and become generals after making sufficient contributions.

There were thousands of different paths in front of them to choose from.

They would choose one and try to reach the capital as soon as possible, and work their way up to the king/Queen position.

It was a long process that could even take a couple of decades.

The participants needed to be a known figure in their region first, then be accepted as the ruler.

It was impossible for someone to just borrow the title like Little Mortal, or take it by force.

It would only result in rebellion everywhere.

  "But be ready.

You are now registered in the ranking list, and you also have the 'Emperor' title.

I'm pretty sure all of the participants will be aware of your arrival when they connect the dots together."

It was indeed already a known fact among the 2000 participants,

who suddenly saw that a new region had been registered, and it even had an Emperor, not a king!

They didn't even know what it meant at first.

But soon, they found out through the system message that this is a rank 1 privilege for winning the 'solo mode' on the eighth planet!

Who was the other party that won the Solo mode?

  It was unclear for now.

But soon, all of them would be aware of his arrival, and the 'Emperor Mortal' name would be known to everyone after 1 hour at most.

Even if they think the emperor's name is just similar to the 'criminal' with the same name,

After 1 hour, someone would receive his coordinates, and that would be the proof of who he is!

  Either way,

While a small commotion was taking place between the 2000 participants, Little Mortal was calculating something in his notebook.

  [ 2000 participants.

  10-day time frame.

  10 days x 24 hr = 240 hours

  240 hours x 60 min = 14400 minute

  14400 / 2000 = 7.2 minute ]

"Using advanced mathematics, I calculated that if I want to clear the map in 10 days,

I should eliminate each of the participants in 7 minutes and go after the next one.

  Little Mortal nodded confidently,

  "I can do this !"

  And after some hand seals,

  "100% stealth mode, activate !"

While his figure didn't disappear as always, he blended in with the shadows, and the Crystal started vibrating.

Saying '100% stealth mode activate' was actually the sign to tell the crystal and Lilith to cooperate with him fully.

They needed to identify the participants' locations and their identities within their regions.

This way, while he was pretending to use his 'underworld innate ability' to avoid disqualification by the system, he could find his targets with their help.

This planet was the most important one, and they needed to act clean, precise, and without any mistakes to accomplish two of his main quests!

[1. Kill every universe owner and become their secret guardian.

  2. Kidnap everybody without the universe. ]
