Interlude 1.1: Alices Day Out

While Morgan was contemplating the inner workings of magic and spell craft, Hermione brought Alice and Mrs. Gray to the nearest bus stop, turning her head to face Alice, she brought out her wand. "Take a good look, you will be thought how to do this on your own, but watching me do it could still help your understanding."

Alice still excited by the notion of learning magic, devoted her complete focus to what happened next.

From her perspective Hermione took out her wand pointing it up in the direction of the coming traffic and released a muted white light from the top of her wand that was kind of hard to see in the brightness of the morning sky regardless of the amount of clouds in it.

Had Morgan been here, she would have seen Hermione release a large wave across the Mana-field without her mana actually targeting or focusing on anything.

Moments after, just as Alice wanted to ask whether the charm had failed, a black bus suddenly appeared Infront of the bus stop, scaring both Alice and Mrs. Gray, though every other person that they could see, seemed to completely ignore it. It wasn't invisible per say, as no one was running into it, but it was otherwise ignored.

"This," Hermione started to say with her best teacher voice, "is the Knight bus. In recent years, there were some big changes in the magical society, specially Hogwarts and it's curriculum, that is basically the entry point of almost all muggle born wizards in Europe."

As the three got into the bus. "Do brace yourselves," Hermione warned "the bus is absolutely safe but for the next several moments it might not feel like it is."

Before Mrs. Gray could ask her to elaborate, the bus started moving with unreal acceleration, before the two could even attempt to scream the bus came to a stop.

"That was sooo fun!" Alice jumped from excitement, "Oh my god, I thought my heart was gonna stop." Mrs. Gray said then turned to Hermione with a scowl, "Young lady, unlike you and Alice, I'm just an old woman, couldn't you have at least warned me?"

"Oh, sorry. You were so calm and sort of remind me of the headmistress to the point I kind of forgot this is your first contact with the magical world." Hermione said apologetically and embarrassed.

As the three were about to get off, Hermione went to the driver talking laud enough so the other two could hear her, "the fare was three Pounds correct?" She asked while taking out her wallet. "Yes ma'am, three Pounds." The driver answered with some pep to his voice.

As she was paying, she continued, "The currency of the wizarding world around the globe is unified, it's also different from all normal currencies, but some special services like the Knight bus also accept muggle currency." She then got off the bus before it disappeared.

The three started walking again as Hermione continued, "As I was saying before, there have been some big changes to the Hogwarts curriculum as the entry point of most muggle born wizards of Europe, the most important of which for you right now is, the start of the semester."

The three entered a cozy looking Cafe with a sign reading, The Golden Cauldron. Hermione lead the other two to a corner table, sitting down and motioning for them to sit down as well. "It's still early, so you can order anything you want while I explain some other things, my treat of course."

Alice and Mrs. Gray sat down as the former picked up the menu excitedly, Hermione continued, "As I was saying, it used to be that Hogwarts accepted new students once a year at the beginning of autumn like all normal schools however now we accept them twice a year with each semester starting at the day of Equinox."

After the two ordered with Alice ordering some cake and Mrs. Gray, got some tea at Hermione's recommendation, she continued, "The other change that affects you right now is the introductory schools. You see, it used to be that muggle born children would just go to Hogwarts directly, with almost no previous introduction into the wizarding society, it's rules or customs and were expected to just pick everything up during their years in school. It's not just about the rules either," Hermione said now looking indignant, "it's also about the conveniences. For example, I was already seventeen before I learned that there exists a potion that can completely halt menstruation with no side effects."

At her words Mrs. Gray's eyes widened while Alice asked "what's menstruation?"

Hermione looked at her before remembering that she was only eleven and likely hadn't started her cycles. At that Mrs. Gray said "Oh, right, well it's something all women go through, and so will you when you get just a bit older. It kinda hurts so I can see how that potion would come in handy."

"Yes, as I was saying," Hermione continued after sipping her tea, "with backing of the new head of house Pendragon, several preparatory schools have opened up across Europe, where children such as yourself that are new to the wizarding world can attend to get aquatinted with it. Actually, today I'm going to enroll you in the school and from tomorrow, you'll have to come on your own."

"But I don't know how to do that." Alice said having already finished her cake. "Don't worry, I will teach you the method after we get your wand," then turning to an angry looking Mrs. Gray she continued, "you don't have to worry about her either, the bus will drop her off and pick her up inside the school's drop off area, so she won't ever have to leave the school grounds on her own."

With all that said, the three got up and ready to leave, Hermione paid for the food with coppery looking coins and then lead the other two to the back of the cafe.

The back entrance lead to a small private back yard full of trees to big to logically be there.

As Alice was looking with eyes full of wonder Hermione went to two trees that had grown against the back wall forming a two person sized hole between them that was filled with a brick wall.

Hermione stood in front of the middle wall and took out her wand, pointing it at specific bricks.

Right as she pointed to the third brick the entire wall started shaking with individual bricks sliding away, opening up a walkway, Hermione took a step aside, letting Alice and Mrs. Gray get a look across, turning to the two and saying, "Welcome to Diagon alley."
