Chapter 17: Summoners?

The colossal creature, born from the depths of the underworld and clad in darkness, let out a bone-chilling roar echoing through the trees. Risebelle, Roselle, and Runebelle felt the oppressive force of the creature's presence. The forest itself seemed to tremble in response to the creature's call, as if acknowledging its dominance in this otherworldly encounter.

Risebelle's turned to her sisters with curiosity. "I've never seen magic like that before. What did that person in the dark just do?"

The Second in Command stood beside the dark portal with his arms crossed and a smirk tugging at the corners of his lips. Though he couldn’t see them, his voice carried through the clearing, "I bet you’ve never seen this before, have you? This is summoning magic in its purest form." He gestured toward the towering dragon with a sweeping motion of his hand.

"I have made a pact with the Abyssal Shadow Dragon, a being that roams the very depths of Hell. Its power is unmatched, and it won’t be long before you are snuffed out like fleeting embers in a storm!"

The dragon opened its massive maw, gathering an orb of hellfire. The burning mass crackled with chaotic energy before it unleashed a series of wild, scorching blasts. The black fireballs tore through the canopy and ground leaving smoldering craters and burning wreckage in their wake.

One of the fiery blasts crashed into the sisters’ hiding spot, engulfing it in a fiery explosion that forced them to scatter into the open.

The Second in Command’s crimson eyes gleamed with satisfaction upon seeing them. "Ah, there you are," he sneered.

Risebelle growled under her breath. "We’ve got no choice now." She glanced at her sisters.

The Second in Command’s confident smirk faltered upon seeing the sister. His eyes darted between Roselle, Risebelle, and Runebelle in visible confusion. "Wait, there’s of you? But the reports only mentioned two..."

A realization suddenly dawned on the commander. He now spoke with anger and disdain. "So, this is what Kintovar’s been up to. Another abomination to magic. As if the first two weren’t insult enough to everything we stand for."

Risebelle’s lips curled into a dry smirk despite the gigantic dragon behind the mage. Her blue eyes glinted with a sharp edge of disdain. "Abomination, huh? That’s a fancy word for humans trying to cover their fear with self-righteousness." Her smirk widened. “You people just can’t stand what you can’t put on a leash, can you?"

The Second in Command’s face darkened. "You dare lecture me, you soulless construct!?"

Risebelle tilted her head. "A construct that’s smarter, faster and more alive than your whole lot combined. If that stings, maybe take it up with your precious gods and goddesses—oh wait, they’re not here, are they?"

Roselle glanced at her sister with wide eyes, and even Runebelle looked taken aback by the venom in her tone.

The Second in Command clenched his fists with his dark aura flaring intensely around him. "You’ll regret those words when my dragon tears you apart. Now destroy them, my Dragon!"

At the Command, the dragon's maw opened wide, and from its gaping jaws, a beam of pure unbridled darkness surged forth.

Runebelle summoned her pillars in a desperate attempt to defend against the oncoming attack but the Shadow Dragon's dark beam shattered them like fragile glass.

Risebelle quickly pulled both Roselle and Runebelle out of the beam's path just in the nick of time; however, the dark energy grazed Risebelle's side, leaving a searing, shadowy mark which elicited a pained gasp from her.

The forest around them was scorched by the dark beam's passage. Roselle's concerned gaze fell upon Risebelle's injury. “It’s not as bad as it looks,” Risebelle said, though her mind whispered a different truth. ‘Since when do I even feel pain like this? Not even when the Elite mages drained my life force last time… but the attacks they used weren’t this strong...’

Roselle’s eyes were locked onto the colossal Shadow Dragon. Her hands gripped her Massive cannon tightly. Her gaze flicked to Risebelle’s wound, and something fierce ignited in her. Without a word, she started moving forward.

Risebelle’s eyes widened. “Roselle, stop!” she barked. “We need to assess the situation! You’re charging in like an—"

  But Roselle was already sprinting.

“Idiot!” Risebelle hissed while moving in to dart after her. "You reckless little—ugh!" She adjusted her weapon while Roselle closed the distance.

Roselle raised her massive cannon and fired a series of deafening shots. The blasts struck the dragon’s dark scales but they left only scratches on its dark hide.

The dragon’s giant head turned to face her. It let out an ear-piercing roar, flapping its enormous wings with enough force to send waves of deadly dark spears hurtling through the air.

Roselle darted and rolled. The spears narrowly missed her. The dragon descended while the spears came at Roselle. It’s claws stretched forward to grab her.

“No, you don’t!” Risebelle snarled, firing a precise shot that struck the dragon’s claw mid-swipe which forced the beast to recoil slightly.

The dragon roared again, shaking the earth as its wings flapped angrily. Its glowing eyes shifted back and forth between Roselle and Risebelle.

Risebelle gritted her teeth. “Roselle, you’ve officially pissed it off. Congratulations,”

Runebelle summoned her cannon and unleashed a barrage of speed shots at the Abyssal Shadow Dragon, but her attacks proved to be ineffective against the creature's body.

Risbelled gritted her teeth and shouted,

  “Aqua whirlwind!”

The air around her churned violently with water spiraling into a massive vortex. Within the raging whirlwind, razor-sharp blades of water formed that sliced through the air with deadly intent.

Stolen from its rightful place, this narrative is not meant to be on Amazon; report any sightings.

She hurled the attack at the dragon. The whirl of water struck the creature, and for the first time, it recoiled with a shrill screech tearing through the air. The dark aura surrounding the dragon flickered.

“It’s vulnerable to water!” Risebelle shouted triumphantly. She began forming another vortex. “I’ve got a plan—”

Before she could act, the dragon lunged with terrifying speed. Its massive claws swiped across the battlefield as it locked onto Risebelle. She barely had time to dodge as it pressed her back, step by step toward a towering tree.

“Risebelle, move!” Roselle screamed. She dashed forward with all her might, but the distance was too great.

The dragon opened its massive maw, charging a dark, pulsating energy in its throat. The sheer force of the gathering power caused the air around them to vibrate ominously.

“NO!” Runebelle shouted desperately, summoning her pillars to form a protective barrier in front of Risebelle but they shattered just as easily as before and the blast struck Risebelle directly.

The force of the attack sent Risebelle crashing against through the trees of the mystical forest.

  “Risebelle!” Roselle cracked.

Runebelle’s lips quivered. “No…” she murmured.

Risebelle lay slumped against a ruined tree far within the forest, unconscious. A faint, mechanical system message flickered across her:

  [[System message]]

  Risebelle Lifeforce: 25%

Runebelle ran through the forest and found Risebelle. She reached out to touch Risebelle's injured side and was able to see her sister’s lifeforce.

‘Her lifeforce is diminishing, and if I don't do something, she might …ngh.., What if Roselle finds herself in the same situation?’

Runebelle bit her lip with tears welling in her eyes. ‘Summoning pillars isn’t enough,’ she realized bitterly. ‘They need more than just walls to protect them.’ Her mind flickered to Roselle, who tried to do nothing but help her since her awakening. ‘I want to be more than a burden. I need to make sure they survive.’

Her thoughts shifted to the nurse's outfit that Kintovar had given her. Kintovar had spoken once about her unique green energy.

Runebelle clenched her fists. The energy around her began to swirl. Her body trembled as a realization struck her. ‘If I focus on what they need, maybe I can…’

Her energy flared brightly, and her mind filled with a singular thought: Heal them.

Suddenly, a System message then appeared before her:

Ability Acquired: Healing Shot (Requires Cannon)

Runebelle's eyes widened. She quickly summoned her cannon into her arms and aimed her cannon toward Risebelle's injuries.

With a focused and steady aim, Runebelle fired a Healing Shot which unleashed a green colored shot that enveloped Risebelle's wounded side. The healing magic surged through her sister's body, mending the injuries and starting a rapid recovery.

Risebelle fired a healing shot at the wounds once more.

The system message flashed before her:

  Risebelle Lifeforce: 60%. Stabilized

Risebelle's eyes fluttered open. She eyed Runebelle with confusion and lingering grogginess. She pushed herself upright slowly, wincing at the memory of the searing pain but when her fingers brushed over her side, it was now completely healed.

“Runebelle?” Risebelle carried a note of disbelief in her speech. “What… did you just do?”

Runebelle’s saddened face eased up as if to look relieved. “I-I healed you, Risebelle. I... I... Are you okay? Does it still hurt?”

Risebelle blinked with her mouth opening wide. “You… healed me?”

Runebelle’s face became flushed. “It’s a Healing Shot I can do with my Cannon. I—uh—kind of just figured out how to do it...”

Risebelle gave a low whistle and smirked. “Well, I’ll be damned. You really pulled through, didn’t you? That’s impressive, Runebelle. Never thought you had something like this in you.”

The rare praise made Runebelle’s face light up with her eyes sparkling with joy. “I just… wanted to help.”

"It's time for a comeback," Risebelle declared while looking back towards the direction where Roselle was fighting the Dragon. "Let's rejoin the fight and show that dragon what we're made of."

Roselle's battle against the Abyssal Shadow Dragon raged on. Roselle fired shots with lightning energy, hoping to strike the dragon's vulnerable spots. Her first three shots missed their mark, causing frustration to well up within her.

The dragon used it’s claws to strike at Roselle. She swiftly raised her massive cannon in front of her, using it as a makeshift shield. The dragon's powerful assault struck the cannon with tremendous force, causing Roselle to stagger backward from the impact.

‘I have to keep pushing,’ Roselle thought to herself. ‘Even if it's just small bits of damage, every hit counts!’

As Roselle continued her battle against the Abyssal Shadow Dragon, she noticed Risebelle approaching her and her eyes widened briefly. "You look better, Risebelle. What happened?"

Risebelle nodded in response. "I'll explain later. Iv’e got a plan to take down this oversized, scaly rat that thinks it's a dragon.

Roselle nodded and said, "Alright, what's your plan?"

Her older sister replied,"Here's what we'll do. I'll distract the dragon and draw its attention. While it's focused on me, you use your lightning magic to target its wings. If you can disable its ability to fly, I can do the rest."

"I get it”. Roselle replied. "Distract and disable? Got it. I'll aim for those wings and do my best to bring this dragon down."

Risebelle gave her sister a reassuring nod. "Good. Remember, we need to time this perfectly. When I give the signal, that's when you strike. Let's do this, Roselle."

The Abyssal Shadow Dragon, its crimson eyes gleaming with malevolence, charged up energy a and flew into the darkened sky. A deep, ominous growl emanated from its throat as it prepared to unleash its dark beam upon the sisters.

Runebelle formed her pillars in a n attempt to protect her sisters. The Abyssal Shadow Dragon's attention turned to the blue and pink-haired sister and it prepared to unleash its deadly attack.

The sisters scattered in different directions. Runebelle’s actions caught the dragon's attention though and it swooped down, aiming to crush her with its might. However, Runebelle expertly ducking out of harm's way.

Meanwhile, Risebelle seized the opportunity presented by the dragon's grounded position. She focused her energy and created a slippery blue substance on the forest floor right beneath the dragon's feet.

The Abyssal Shadow Dragon attempted to charge it’s massive body towards her; however, the sudden appearance of the slippery energy created by Risebelle caused it to lose its balance and stumble awkwardly before falling with a loud thud.

The dragon let out a roar of frustration while trying to regain its footing.

  Risebelle shouted "now!”

Roselle propelled herself high into the air using a burst of her lightning. She then directed this lightning like a whip, aiming for the Abyssal Shadow Dragon and attached it to one wing, which allowed her to twist her body to land gracefully on the creature's massive back.

Roselle then unleashed a powerful barrage of lightning-infused strikes on both of the dragon's wings.

As the dragon roared in agony from Roselle's lightning strikes, Risebelle shouted,

  “Aqua Whirlwind!”

She thrust her hands forward, summoning a massive vortex of razor-sharp water currents that spiraled toward the Abyssal Shadow Dragon.

The dragon's roar shifted from anger to desperation from being engulfed by the water which pinned it down momentarily.

On the dragon's back, Roselle’s eyes widened. “You’re going to hit me too!” she yelled down to Risebelle, who smirked knowingly but said nothing.

“Ugh, so that’s the plan, huh?” Roselle muttered under her breath. She gathered her remaining lightning energy and unleashed it in a radiant, fan-shaped wave around her. The lightning surged outward, meeting the spinning water currents of Risebelle's whirlwind. The two energies merged, and the resulting explosion of light and power illuminated the forest like a miniature storm.

The dragon writhed and screeched. Sparks danced across its dark scales, and steam billowed from its massive body. Roselle leaped from its back just when the torrent subsided, landing with a roll beside her sisters.

The three stood together, panting and watching the aftermath. Smoke and mist surrounded the Abyssal Shadow Dragon, obscuring its full body. For a moment, the creature remained still, hunched in the center of the destruction. Slowly, it began to rise with its crimson eyes glowing faintly through the haze.

“No way…” Runebelle whispered. “It’s still standing?”

Risebelle narrowed her eyes. “Stay sharp, sisters. We’re not done yet.”
