Ship Classifications

  Note: Unless otherwise mentioned, the shape of a ship is roughly cylindrical, with a diameter of around one third that of the length. Ex: A 1000m long ship would have a diameter of roughly 333m. Meaning it would have a rough volume of eighty seven million cubic meters. Do keep in note, most ships have a curved bow and extra decorations, so this may not be 100% accurate.

  Shuttle: Small ships, ten to thirty meters in length. Used to transport things around planets and into low orbits. They have atmosphere rated engines. Incapable of hyperspace.

  Frigate: Small-medium ships, thirty to sixty meters in length. Used to transport things around star systems. They have one to two large engines.Combat versions are called destroyers rather than frigates. Incapable of hyperspace.

  Cruiser: Medium ships, fifty to one hundred fifty meters in length. Used to transport things between nearby star systems. They usually have between two and six large engines. Most common type of ship used in combat. Capable of hyperspace travel in the range of 12-24 times lightspeed.

  Battleship: Large ships, five hundred to one thousand meters in length. Used primarily for combat and management throughout galaxies. They are a staple of any empire that wishes to project across a galaxy. They usually have between twelve and thirty-two large engines. Equipped with multiple magnitudes of hyperspace drives. Average battleships are capable of hyperspace travel at top speeds of one to three million times lightspeed. With top of the line speeds measuring at six or seven million times lightspeed.

  Colosus: Huge ships, one thousand meters to five thousand meters in length. Colossus ships are very rare due to their difficulty to construct and manage. They are most often used as coreships for sovereign empires. They are often armed to the teeth and near impossible to fully defeat without boarding and taking over from the inside. They usually have between fifty and five hundred large engines. They are equipped with a wide variety of hyperspace drive magnitudes. The most advanced colossus ships have hyperspace drives capable of traveling tens of millions times lightspeed.

  Freighter: Freighters come in various sizes, from small to gigantic. They are the workhorses of the universe, used to transport massive quantities of resources around solar systems, galaxies and the universe. The largest Intergalactic type freighters are capable of hyperspace travel at tens of millions of times lightspeed. The fastest freighter as of 3078 PV has reached the speed of seventy million times lightspeed. The largest freighter ever built was over seven kilometers long.

  Note on terms of address:

  The highest ranking officers of different ship classes have different designations, the second in command is referred to as the rank below. Even if an individual possesses a higher class ship, they are referred to based on whatever ship they are on.

It is a 750m long battleship, with large storage capacity. It has rooms for three officers and twelve crew members. There is hangar space for four cruiser class ships. It has no offensive combat capability. Its primary hyperspace drive is rated for four million times lightspeed travel.

It boasts a top hyperspace speed of 12 million times the speed of light, which is 50%+ faster than the previous fastest battleships. It also has insane normal acceleration, it can go from standstill to 80% the speed of light in four minutes. Unfortunately, the cost of this insane speed is virtually all of its cargo capacity, reduced living quarters size and severe gutting of other essential functions. It is built for speed and nothing but speed. It is highly experimental; it was expedited out of Arkanian labs due to special circumstances. It has a distinctly spike-like shape, the bow comes to a sharp point whereas the aft is a massive bank of engines.

  (36) A39-Mk4 800m Voyage Battleship: A fourth generation battleship. It is equipped for long voyages and comfortable transport of passengers. It has a hyperspace drive capable of seven million times lightspeed. It also has a hangar bay capable of holding four cruisers. It has been augmented with several Itokin technologies, for instance, a map of all nearby voidliths for easy navigation and route planning.

  (Codex)A00-Ark Intergalactic Freighter: The first ship capable of intergalactic travel in reasonable timeframes. It was initially created by the Arkan species around 1.5 billion years ago. It was the first ship to boast a hyperspace speed above ten million times the speed of light.
